Correct me if I'm wrong, but political parties are not government agencies, and can make their own rules about how they operate or how they choose their leaders and policies. If I formed my own political party, I don't have to let people vote on whether I can be the leader of it. The people vote during the elections themselves. If you don't like the leader of a political party and don't want to vote for them, vote for another party. The problem with the US is that it's gotten itself stuck in this horrible two-party system where all too often people have to choose between a bad candidate and a worse one, as if there are only two sets of views a person can hold. But I digress.
