What do people get in return? Are there actual cash value prizes or is this just some stupid childish game that addicts adults too? @cassenlabounty5551 Ranking Boards. There is no monetary value. Almost all of these games have individual and guild ranked stats, and the goal is just to climb the boards and show off your "skills" to everyone else. Guilds push their players to spend more $$$ so that they can advance to the next tier and the Game Studios design their game so that players must spend a certain amount of money each month in order to "keep up" with the games progression and updates. They easily trick most players by splitting up your purchases for different required items and push that fear of missing out by time gating content and charging you to skip the wait and upgrade your stuff immediately.

I realized I had a gambling addiction despite never going to a casino. I got hooked on in game lootboxes and what finally snapped me out of it was I was logging into games I didn't even play anymore to buy lootboxes to roll for seasonal skins purely because of FOMO. I took a hard look and realized I was over $5000 deep into skins and just....garbage. I got my friends involved and they help keep me honest. At any point all of them are allowed to request to see my purchase history on any game I play no matter what, and if I refuse to show them then assume I've fallen off the wagon and treat me appropriately. I don't even open booster packs for card games anymore, even if I win them as a prize. I paid $10 to have fun at an event and that's it. Hand the packs to someone I liked at the event and ask them to not tell me what they get out of them
I have seen more "men" get ruined by video games. They sacrifice time with their kids, wife, and other family obligations for these games. Very sad. My girlfriend's son doesn't spend quite that much but he has spent time that has greatly stunted his development as an adult. This guy sounds just like him...he has been acting like a teenager for the last 15 years. These "men" are not fulfilling his vows to his spouse. Have him sleep on the couch and no "quality time" till things turn around. If he acts like a little boy, treat him like a little boy. To all you you cynics thinking he must be doing OF or adult entertainment...The revenue of the mobile gaming market was over 90 billion U.S. dollars in 2022. It's the exact same as a gambling addict, and not fundamentally different than a drug user. He needs professional counselling to help him get his compulsions under control. This kind caller needs to love him through sickness (and to get back to health)... however she's already checked out and just hasn't left him yet.
The husband sounds like he is checking out of the family. As the breadwinner, he can justify what he is spending on his phone games and be in denial about overspending on it. There are plenty of free games out there, what he is doing in terms of family avoidance is wrong. It might be that he does not want to be married, which is sad.
It's less likely that he is checked out of his family and more likely that he just got more and more obsessed with climbing the leaderboards and showing off to his friends. I also dont think the wife mentioned that the game takes up all his free time. This is probably his only hobby and he justifies the purchases to himself because this is the hobby that he does with his friends and the money he spends helps them advance in the game faster and get on the leader boards.

I play video games myself. When I realized the mobile games ended up as money pits, I made up my mind to not spend on them and stick to console games (those are mostly one time purchases) as those you can play as often as you want. In fact, make it an incentive to have a game break AFTER paying off your bills.
Exactly! Or give yourself a little gaming time as a reward for finishing your second job to pay off debt....
Divorce. If he doesn’t collapse into tears of genuine shame and remorse within the first two minutes of the wife’s confrontation then he has zero regard for his vows. This is an absolute abandonment and abdication of marriage and its duties.
What, he’ll be reasoned out of spending that kind of money on games? What if he ate a glass sand-which every morning for breakfast? Should you sit down with a counselor or a pastor and see if he’ll come around to another point of view?
Honestly he might be depressed. I remember overspending on these games back when I was down low (I mean I had a couple of months of spending $50-$100 on games when I usually spend $0). And the route issue was I was unhappy. The only way I could stop it was to delete the games from my phone and then start making the changes in my life to get out of my depression. I was lucky, I caught it early. But at $1k/month he much be down bad. This kind of spending is more symptom than the disease itself
It’s probably only fans
I’m really glad you shared this.
I have to often remind myself that different people cope with depression in different ways. Sometimes when that coping method is vastly different from something I can relate to I can be quick to become judgmental…this was a great reminder not to do that.
Thank you.

Yes, it was hard for me to pay for a phone game too. After I thought about it, I realized if I was playing a video game on a console I would buy it. It’s not unreasonable to pay the people who make a game I’m enjoying that is top tier. I set a budget and spend $10-15 every quarter on a resource package for my world building game, which is really cheap for the amount of entertainment I get from the game, but that’s what I’m willing to pay, and I stick to it.
@@stillwatersfarm8499 At that level it costs no more than going out to the movies once in a while, and I don't mind paying something for entertainment. As a participant in the mobile gaming industry.........this unfortunately is more common than persons realize. In these games, persons usually join guilds and there are many spenders in these guilds called "Whales" who spend upwards of $1000 each month. One instance I know of the person spent $10k in a month.
What do people get in return? Are there actual cash value prizes or is this just some stupid childish game that addicts adults too? May was well go to a casino if it is like Fortnight or a similar game (and no he should absolutely not go to a casino). People need to get off their phones and live life.
@@clabs2016 It's actually built more so for adults (who conceivably have little time). Progress in these games are done through either spending time playing or spending money. They know most adults don't have the time to spend playing so they make it convenient for them to spend money instead. These game developers are masterminds of psychology and know how to get persons to empty their wallets.

What clothes did she get that added up to $25k, and where did she put all of these clothes? I am surprised if you did not need to build a warehouse to store all of these clothes. And did she wear all of these clothes? Or let me guess! A lot of it stayed untouched, tagged, and never worn.
Dave is right, he needs a reality check and she needs to set a deadline of fix or move on. Show him what he is going to lose if he choses video games and a car over his family.
When your child gets into school, I'd go get a full time job and get things rolling in the right direction.
To all you you cynics thinking he must be doing OF or adult entertainment...The revenue of the mobile gaming market was over 90 billion U.S. dollars in 2022. The husband sounds like he is checking out of the family. As the breadwinner, he can justify what he is spending on his phone games and be in denial about overspending on it. There are plenty of free games out there, what he is doing in terms of family avoidance is wrong.
It might be that he does not want to be married, which is sad.
Depends if she is slobbing knob right
It's less likely that he is checked out of his family and more likely that he just got more and more obsessed with climbing the leaderboards and showing off to his friends. I also dont think the wife mentioned that the game takes up all his free time.
This is probably his only hobby and he justifies the purchases to himself because this is the hobby that he does with his friends and the money he spends helps them advance in the game faster and get on the leader boards.

Being a mobile gamer I normally get a pass or two each season which runs $5-10 a month.
If its a game you've been playing for a decade, by all means. But $5-10 is definitely nothing to sneeze at, even if its a temporary game. I can't remember the name, but a very long time ago i had played a game for a few years and dropped about $200 on it
This is one of the few reasons why a married couple should separate their finances. If she is not careful, they won't have any money for food or a place to live cause he will bankrupt them. She needs to protect herself and her child by having their accounts separate until this guy grows up and puts his family first.
She cannot afford to stay home. She needs to get a job.

Yes, a good number of folks are raking in huge 6 figure

It all depends on how long you're willing to hold for, stocks might likely tank further, but making serious gains in this downtrend wouldn't be a problem if you're a pro.
