- 4-Wheel Drive (4WD) (if so equipped)
Your 4-Wheel Drive system allows you the option of selecting among different drive modes, based on road conditions. This 4-Wheel Drive shift switch electronically controls operation of the transfer case. Rotate the switch to shift between each mode.
Depending on how your vehicle is equipped, you will be able to choose among these drive modes: 2-Wheel Drive, 4H, 4LO and, if so equipped, AUTO mode.
2-Wheel Drive is for normal driving conditions, typically for dry, paved roads.
AUTO mode, if so equipped, is for driving on paved or slippery roads. It automatically changes torque distribution between front and rear wheels depending on road conditions.
In 4-Wheel Drive, 4H provides greater traction for rocky, snowy and sandy roads. 4H can be used up to, but no higher than 62 miles per hour.
4LO provides maximum power and traction for situations such as driving on steep grades or on rocky, sandy or muddy roads. The maximum safe speed in 4LO is 31 miles per hour.
Please note these shifting essentials: You can shift into 4H while driving at no more than 62 miles an hour. However, to shift into or out of 4LO, your vehicle must be at a standstill. Once stopped, you must depress the brake pedal and move the shift lever to the NEUTRAL position. Push this switch IN when shifting into or out of 4LO.
This is the 4-Wheel Drive shift indicator light. When the engine is running, it will illuminate to show the drive mode you have selected.
To avoid causing damage to your 4-Wheel Drive system, never shift between 4LO and 4H while driving. Also, do not drive on dry, hard surface roads in 4H or 4LO, as it will cause unnecessary noise, excessive tire wear and increased fuel consumption.
For more detailed information on 4-Wheel Drive, please consult your Owner's Manual. And in every type of road condition, be sure to drive carefully!
With the switch, is it still recommend to use 4x4 once a month or more to keep things lubricated?
EXELLENT
How do I depress the brake pedal? Do I call it names and yell at it? Tell it that it has no friends? I mean this seems pretty mean to have to depress the brake just to get it to do something for me.
Indicator light Isnt showing anything and there is a alarm dinginging every minute or so. Anybody have an idea?? Thanks in advance.
How come my nissan pathfinder 2012 ti 550 2013 3l deisel doesn't have the 2WD CONTROL
Its full time 4wd all the time
Thank you alot
All switches,no lever?
Can you reverse in 4wd high or low ?
Yes
of course
Yes and if you can’t it cost $4,000 - $6,000 to rebuild a pathfinder transmission here in Seattle which is a common problem on ALL OF THEM! Buyer Beware!
does AUTO have speed limit? need help pls
no. I use it in highway at 150 km/h with no problem.
Porque se queda activada la 4x4
Does anyone have any more info on how the “auto” mode works! How does it divert Power? How is it different from “4hi” ? Is it engaging and disengagement 2wd mode when it doesn’t detect slippage? Are you essentially driving I “2wd” until there is loss of traction? How quickly does it respond and send power to the front wheels?
I am specifically thinking about driving highway speeds in snow Thanks
Auto basically is able to send power to all wheels just like 4hi except it does not have the center differential locked
So it does not grind the transfer case when you are in asphalt
Found this comprehensive explanation

alguém pode informar a localização do modulo 4x4 dela
Why don't I have the switch on mine
Sounds like your version is 2WD only.
Mine doesn't reverse. Any solutions please..
Lmao wtf
Bro fix ur transmission😂😂😂
And its indicating 4wd but I have the switch on 2 wd.
I have also meet with this problem! It only happened to me when it was in 2wd and i was giving full gas to the car. Automatically turned on the 4wd.. the car lost his power and stuff. I pulled over stopped the car then restarted it and good again. After this i never use full gas again, just slowly.
ALL MODE 4X4 2WD(FR) AUTO(4H) 4H LOCK・4Lo LOCK
Similar to the Mitsubishi super select II. I think Mitsubishi shared the super select II 4wd system to the pathfinder r51
Unable to engage with switch
