I have laughed maniacally and replayed that part for my family sooo many times 🤣 IDK why it’s one of my favorite moments lately
On a micro level people go to comedy shows in the mood to laugh so they will laugh at things they wouldn’t have otherwise in that setting and on a macro level people visiting LA go to be entertained and they feel a pressure to leave telling themselves it was a good trip and it was entertaining. So the dishonesty is working on two orders of magnitude.
This is 100% true.

Redbar is at his peak when he’s covering these guys and all the fake influencers lol. I absolutely love the cumia and joe materese clsssic stuff. But current era redbar is killing the game. Mike gave the fools 2 years to fix themselves. Since he’s came back it’s been great shows every single episode.

I used to work at the improv about a decade ago now. Jeremiah was in a trio band with Josh Adam Meyers, and a guy Avery Pearson who actually was the dude who trained me when I first started. Pretty nice dude, but a little weird.
There were two open Mics. One was Tuesdays at 4 or 5pm I think, and I’d always get scheduled to work the door for those, and if I remember correctly they had another one on like Friday nights at midnight-ish?
Anyways, the trio band would always come host the open mic at midnight, and my GOD was it narcissism at its finest. At least at the daytime open mic there would be some class and dignity with how everyone treated it. You’d be able to get through your set without someone from the band just randomly playing goofy tunes on their instrument or trying to “add” to your joke.
Then between sets the band would just play shitty unfunny songs that would repeat the same improvised lyrics 500 times in a row trying to get the audience to chant it along with them. I remember Craig Robinson from the office coming and essentially cucking them out of their band duties. He just stayed for like 3 hours after the show and played the piano and they tried to join in with all the energy of a group of 6th graders trying to impress the hot girl in high school.
Another thing I’ll never forget is the way Jeremiah would show up to the club well before the shows and just walk around with his saxophone strapped around is neck trying to get compliments or to get someone to make a comment about it so he could just start playing for you.
One final thing. If you don’t follow him on Facebook (I didn’t even realize I did until I went back to get old pictures off my profile) do yourself a favor and look at his post from when the Chiefs won the Super Bowl. A master class in cringe.

This thing Mike pointed out crowds that want to laugh and will laugh at anything...I noticed this 30 years ago watching some mediocre comic very confused why everyone is laughing hard for no good reason. People decide they are having a good time beforehand and will laugh anything...no matter how crap the comic is
The booze at these shows don't hurt either.
Its also because most people are fairly nice and will give a pity laugh because its even awkward for an audience when a comedian is bombing the feeling is palpable, they break up the cringey feeling by giving an undeserved laugh. Just way too much forced laughing involved with comedy and podcasting, I can't stand the trend of the loudly forced laughing of podcast producers every time the host says something.
@@RxYouth Exactly, what many people forget is the house will typically set a 2 drink MINIMUM and any good bartender knows you make the first two drinks on a tab a bit stronger and then water/sugar down the rest.
I noticed this with anything produced by “ 800 pound gorilla”.. it seems they have the same people over laughing for every comic.

Jeremiah Watkins actively made Roast Battles worse with the Wave. He sucked with his one liners on Kill Tony. And his act is horrible.
Every time I see him I think "shit, I can do better than that". I don't think that about great comics out there.
The dude rode the right coat-tails. It's not always about talent, just the butts you're willing to kiss and shit you're willing to eat in that business.
You can do better than that most people can do better than most "comedians" they just don't have the shamelessness and ego to think they earned the right to command the attention of a roomful of people let alone charge money for it.
