They were arrested last August in an alleged case of espionage.
The Indian government expressed its shock at the verdict.
Why were they arrested?
Qatar's intelligence agency arrested the eight men on August 30, 2022.
They were kept in solitary confinement for months.
They were arrested on charges that have not yet been made public
But they are assumed to be, in the absence of any denial
by either country, regarding spying.
The Indian Embassy first learned about the arrests in mid-September last year.

Following the intervention of Indian authorities,
Meetings and phone calls for the men were arranged with their relatives.
Multiple bail petitions filed on behalf of the retired Navy personnel were turned down.
Who are these 8 Indians?
All of the former Navy officers had a distinguished service record
of up to 20 years.
The Indian Navy veterans are Commander Purnendu Tiwari,
Commander Sugunakar Pakala, Commander Amit Nagpal,
Commander Sanjeev Gupta, Captain Navtej Singh Gill,
Captain Birendra Kumar Verma, Captain Saurabh Vasisht
and Sailor Ragesh Gopakumar.
Commander Purnendu Tiwari (retd), who was the managing director of the company,
received the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman in 2019.
Why were they in Qatar?
All eight Indians worked for a private firm, Dahra Global Technologies and Consultancy Services.
The company’s old website, which no longer exists, said it provided training,
and other services for Qatar's armed forces.
The company is owned by Khamis al-Ajmi,
a retired squadron leader of the Royal Oman Air Force.
Ajmi, too, was arrested last year but was released in November 2022.
What is India doing?
Reacting to the verdict, the MEA said that they are awaiting
the detailed judgement in the case and are exploring all legal options.
"We are deeply shocked by the verdict of the death penalty and are awaiting the detailed judgement.
We are in touch with the family members and the legal team,
and we are exploring all legal options," the MEA said in a statement.

Already one have got award recognised by both India and Qatar
they were doing it for israel. they deserve no honor for doing it for another nation. Acting upon Espionage is an unforgivable act, and doing it for a country other than your own is treachery. There's nothing we can do now, they've done it to themselves and we wont be held accountable for such an act that went wronged both of us.

There are about 1 million Indians live in Qatar and India gets Billions of dollar remittance from Qatar. It is immoral to be unfaithful to such a good friend of India. I am proud most of the Indians are very nice, humble and Law Abiding people who are working around the world.
