- The Gibson 70s Explorer is finely crafted to channel the soul and spirit of the original 1970’s models. The mahogany body and Slim Taper neck with rosewood fingerboard is finished in a stunning Classic White, with a pair of '70s Tribute Burstbuckers to make it sound as loud as it looks. We invited Brian Bell of Weezer-well known for his use of the Explorer-to check out the new model and give us a look at the one he uses on stage.

I’ve never heard Brian talk this much
hi weezerirony
Me neither lol
Weezerirony sup weezer irony it’s me demarco irony wanna kiss
It’s like hearing Mikey Way talk. Super rare, but oddly soothing to hear
Same. When I met him he said one word. But he was very kind.
I would listen to him talk about music for hours
yeah lmao I just found this 2000 dollar guitar laying around in rivers's basement
rivers probably has like 20 gibsons in his basement without knowing it lol
originalno and as many fenders
i can see this. Rivers has a tendency to go thru phases.
I think he used this when he was 15 because I found a photo with him when he was 15 holding it
Very surreal to see Brian playing Rivers parts
That part always bugged me, Rivers is already the lead singer why does he have to be the lead guitarist as well
Spencer Savage Probably because Rivers is the better guitarist of the two. Brian is kinda known for messing up live. Brian also plays piano and synth live, so if any songs have a solo and piano, brian wouldn’t be able to play it.
Tyree Flores rivers is good enough to play lead and sing live though. Weezer is also BALLS heavy live. Which is soo fuckin funny. They’re amazing
@@spencersavage491 Probably because he writes the parts and doesn't want anybody else to play them
The Chad Pad ehh I disagree with that he wanted no one else to play them. Rivers is a pretty great guitarist and when you write the guitar parts, you know how they want to them sound and it will be easy to play without thinking
Brian is such an underrated guitarist.
@Glasmania He plays the song, never overlays. Seems to fit well into a two guitar band, which is not always easy. They have a great thing going. Rivers is also a great player. He usually gets his parts first take. So says Rick Oacsec
@Street shitter Most people don't know his name, but can hum a bunch of his riffs. I'd say that's the definition of underrated.
I met Brian at a festival many years ago. He was very friendly and down to earth.
Brian looks so good in this. The way he talks about music, you can just tell how passionate he is, he’s so amazing
I know he’s like so hot like
Weezer is a good example in music of why we shouldn’t judge by appearances. Brian is the only one in the group that actually looks like a rocker and has that sense of style. The rest of them look like a few dads chummed up together for a jam at a backyard barbecue
Scott is a pretty good rocker, I’d say.
I don’t even listen to Weezer but this guy seems like someone I would like to jam with 😂
I own some nice guitars, but this makes me want to own an Explorer so bad. Brian's attitude towards music is pure... all about the music. That's why Weezer is well respected in the music community and always will be. If you play guitar Weezer songs are the perfect practice tunes... simple rock driven songs that you play over and over.
I accidently clicked on this without even looking but as a huge Weezer fan I'm glad I did.
That guitar is so tough because it sat around in a basement taking neglect and abuse..I've noticed this happened with other instruments. You get a daisy-fresh it plays okay then it sits around for a period of time, usually in like a garage/ basement or a closet..
Then it gets taken out and reset up and the guitar plays like a champ.
i found my grandfathers 1995 fender strat in my attic, he died in 2002 and nobody played it since he died until i found it, i’ve been playing it for 2 years now and i still haven’t changed the strings lol, it’s the best playing guitar i’ve ever had
Absolutely true, I bought a 1996 Gibson Les Paul Studio that had been sitting in a closet for 20 years, easily my best playing guitar
Just like Wine, guitars get better with age
He looks like a pirate (in a good way)
No, no, no friend, no, Brian seems more like a Vampire, but I say it out of affection, not offense, in a good way, he is a very handsome vampire.🧛🏻♂️🎸♥️
Possibly one of the best guitars ever made. I'm a bassist primarily but I play guitar and write most of the music in the band I record with. I inherited an Explorer from my guitarist when he purchased new Monson NOMAD and I loved it so much that I played it more than my Fretless Precision bass for about 6 months.
I will not be selling it or gifting it any tim soon.
Any Tim?
man, to see/hear him play those riffs, really takes me back. iconic
He has the same reason I like the explorer! METALLICA
Don't we all?
Man I love how he ended with a pinkerton nod. But Brian didn't to even mention his thinline telecaster and his sg, which were his main guitar for many years in the 90's and had such a great sound.
yeah, strange that he didn’t mention his other guitars in this Gibson Explorer advertisement.
Really? You do realize this a video for the explorer. Why in the hell would gibson pay him to talk about a fender?
grizmit that guy is an idiot
kristu19 sam and max pfp
Yo te conozco
When I first seen a Gibson Explorer, It was the baddest ass thing I ever seen !!!! They are still very cool on stage !
I met him once post concert in Austin, it was freezing cold and they still came out to say hello in parking lot by their bus…. Super cool guys… cold AF and they totally hung out with us chatting
I feel like James Hetfield is singlehandedly responsible for the Explorers wide appeal to the last two generations of guitarist lmao. Anytime someone between the age of 20-40 talks about what made them want an explorer, Hetfield is going to be the first name mentioned 9.5/10 times haha.
Even though he is a giant douche, Rick Nielsen of CT playing the Hamer version of Explorer is when I first thought, "what a cool shaped guitar."
I fell in love with the explorer thanks to Dave Grohl in Foo Fighter's first years
can confirm
For me it was Skwisgaar from Dethklok lol
It ain’t even that. The Explorer was always so mystical to me. It felt like it came from outer space. I found out about it before I found James Hetfield. I’ll be honest, I don’t think I’d use an Explorer for metal.
My step dad had an Explorer in the 90s with real sweet humbucker and played it constantly in the basement when I was kid. I was crushed when I learned he pawned it a few years back because I really had hoped to inherit it one day.
I'm not a musician. But I've had the blessing of observing up close a few great musicians in my life. I had front row (stage right) seats at a weezer concert last year and I got to obserb Brian playing. It made me want to learn guitar. His technique was different and he had a confidence and technique that impressed me beyond any other I have seen.
Cool story, my uncle actually grew up taking lessons from the same teacher as Brian, and they hung out a decent amount before he went to school and joined Rivers
What was river doin with that guitar just siting in the basement.
Brian! Weezer! My two favorite things 😎
But why is Brian cut out of your pfp tho? Hahahahah
Triple V 101 II I am what ...
⚽️🏀🏈
Bro, Brian is literally cut out of your profile picture.
the first thing he played reminds me of welcome home(sanitarium)
Undone - "Sweater Song" off the 1st WEEZER record...kinda does have that same feel.
Kevin Leonard Rivers said it was ripped off of sanitarium.
DUDE SANITARIUM IS ONE OF THE BEST METALLICA SONGS.
I love my Explorer. Thanks for talking about the 70's model.
Brian and rivers need a signature guitar
i literally enjoy hearing brian speak so much
I never should have sold my 76' Reissue White Explorer with EBONY fretboard.. bought 1069 euros brand new in 2009...
I have an 80s model and it's a BEAST.
Damn
Does he work for a civil war re enactment crew
The sweater song sounds so beautiful on that guitar
I don’t know why I like this video so much
Huh. I pegged you as more of a Mexican Fender type of guy.
BOOOOO!
Ethan Runnels you did what to him
Nothing wrong with a Mexican precision bass though.
@@iamalpharius9483 #missedthejoke
I don’t understand 😢
*why is it a rosewood board* mind you I am going to love this guitar, however still, know what I mean? E B O N Y
Henry Jones you cant complain about a rosewood bird now a days, you’re lucky to find one with a rosewood board, any old guitar can get ebony
Nothing feels better than pressing string to rosewood.very satisfying.
I like the sound of the new pickups winding
Love to learn more about that Marshall too!!
I just talked about this..Freebird. Day on the green. Rossington and Collins DUALING!!
Bad Guy Good Audio Reviews Allen Collins was probably the first main pioneer of the Gibson Explorer. It’s sad he never gets the credit for his playing. Him and Rossington we’re both beasts in their own way
Some guitars just have all the right things going on, and when you find the right one you keep it.
I love Gibson explorer ever since I seen Allen collins play one in lynyrd skynyrd
he was DEFINITELY using the flerb reverb setting on a EHX holy grail
Rivers plays that Champagne Explorer in the Dope Nose video.
It's insane. I discovered the Explorer with Matthias Jabs and no one seems to talk about him.
Beautiful guitar
Brian you are my god I love you
Welcome to where time stands still, whoops wrong song.
No, go on.
No one leaves and no one ever will
Nah you got it wrong. Say it ain't so sounds like that Moby and Christina Aguilera song "here we are now going to the east side, I pick up my friends and we go for a ride". Lol.
Beautiful man!
I love Weezer and explorers. Pretty cool video
You want Explorer then you want Mathias Jabs to rock you like a hurricane.
My first guitar was a 1982 white Gibson Explorer
Rich boy
Beepbeep Lettuce
Lol. It was bought on payments! Lol
My first guitar was a $200 Squier Strat. 14 years later, that’s still the only guitar I have. 😂
I’ve always gone in and out of playing guitar though. I’d probably play more if I had better equipment. The only amp I have is a bass amp. Lol.
couldnt afford a gib$on so i bought the epiphone explorer instead, cant wait!!
I just ordered the Gibson 70s Explorer and Flying V. I want that new Epiphone Explorer too. How do you like it?
They are many answer inside Gibson's Guitar. It's Majestic. Really Recommended for Moneymaker. 🌀
Glorious Gibson!
I’m thinking about getting this as my first guitar
Ive had my Gibson LP 60s standard as my 1st electric for exactly two weeks today and I love it. Sounds, looks, feels, and even smells amazing. Inspires me to play for hours on end everyday. With that said, its not ergonomic and takes a bit of a physical toll after hours of playing. Consider that when choosing
For what littlw I frankly know of Weezer, I somehow imagine thw Explorer makes a glove-like fit with them.
I love a Gibson explorer with a DiMarzio Super Distortion bridge pickup!
I'd love to try one of these and compare to my Epiphone 1984 Explorer
Pirates are in this year
Hello from Knoxville, Brian. You are a legend here! =W=
Gibson, can you please do a signature model of that sparkle Explorer? So cool!
lol at 4:03 did he say edward van halen?
Yea why
@@elduderino3995 its just weird, you don't say Edward from iron maiden
He mentioned all the bands that inspired the record they were working on... that’s why he brought them up.
Very cool...and white is the best color...ie Scorpions...
I don't picture an explorer when I hear Weezer so this makes this way more sick
Hi, what about the burstbucker 70s pickups? Magnet type? DC Resistance? Greetings!
The only dude to use the Flerb setting on the Holy Grail
Lol I love this dude
he’s so fine
the distortion doesn't sound too solid
Its a ds-2. Many people don't like the sound. But fucking adore it
That's because it sounds better in a band setting with a bass guitarist
I mean, you need a little more than a clean guitar to get a surf sound. In fact, there's quite a bit of tube saturation coming from those old tube reverb units
Aww Yeahhhh i got my HASH PIPE" 👊💨
Can someone please tell me if the guitar has good balance. Like does it neck dive
ark_eezee YT it will have neck dive. All guitars like that shape will. But...get a wide thick padded strap and that will help
Perfect balance with sitting. Love it. Never need to use a strap.
What song is he playing in the beginning ?
Undone: the sweater song
This is badass axe
Also available in left handed
Wow, thanks for teaching me how to use a switch.
Lol!
My mind is telling me, "No"... But my body... My body's telling me, "Yeeessss."
im gonna build my self one
i have one... for an xbox 360
Sp1cy KaZen same ;) I need an alpine white one that looks just like it
The Chad Pad that’s what i have
Guitar Hero III
Those are 70’s tribute humbuckers, not burstbuckers.
Yikes that distortion was hideous....good thing it sounds glorious in the mix. U rock BB!
after watching that brian bell voicemail (ruclips.net/video/F5E4wvIjDZs/видео.html) his voice feels so weird
Didn’t/Doesn’t Metallica play LTD guitars?
Watch Cliff Em All, James uses a Gibson Explorer.
*plays Fade To Black*
Isn’t he primarily a Rhythm player?? I know he was on the first two records....
He played a few of the solos on Pinkerton as well as some other various leads on that album.
He's been playing solos more often, especially since their 2014 album EWBAITE.
Do you think Gibson will ever bring back the swamp ash explorer?
🤘💛🧡💚🤘
whenever I listen to an explorer I listen to metallica
No stairway?
What is he playing at the start
The sweater song by weezer
The riff at the beggin sound like something nirvana would play
0:01
Thats the song by weezer(the sweater song) thats his band
From the picture I thought it was Keanu reeves
wheres J mascis.
J Mascis is a Jazzmaster player, dude.
Kumo. I think he’s referring to how brian is also really chill, similar to J mascis haha
Anybody know what riff that is in the beginning
Ryan Mast undone - the sweater song
Ryan Mast Undone-Sweater song
What was the first riff?
Undone
The body shape is wrong for a 70’s Explorer. It’s too pointy.
I don't get the $1999 price!
It's a quality Gibson. Have you never played one? I'm hearing the Epiphone version is nice for a much lower price.
@@xjohn1970 LMFAO at that comment! All I own is high end Gibson, I have three Gibson explorers and one is a custom shop that was barely over that price point! Why don't you go buy a damn epiphone pal!
@@xjohn1970 I have a 07 Gibson Classic white Explorer and a 09 Epiphone 58 Korina Explorer and the Epi plays better, better neck profile, sounds better and has better build quality than the Gibson. 8/10 of the time I pick up any of my guitars now, it's that Epi (next up is a LTD H1000). It's just a better guitar overall. But that doesn't mean I don't like the Gibson. As a matter of fact I love it! That's only because there's a lot of sentimental value in that Guitar. I've spent countless hours playing it, and I know it better than anyone else ever could. So I know very well that my Gibson fails when compared to my Epiphone in every way. So in my personal opinion buy an Epiphone 58 korina, 84, Gothic, swap the nut (which is super cheap to do, maybe 50 at shop, less than 30 to do it yourself), maybe the pickups if you want, and you got a top of the line guitar without paying what you'd pay for a Gibson.
Your used to cheap China pricing.
30 years ago, USA made guitars were $800 to $1,000.
Minimum wage was $3.35 an hour.
It has almost tripled now. The guitar should be about $3,000.
By the way, I bought two USA made guitars making $3.35 an hour.
Everyone wants everything for free nowadays.
Ray H. I agree. Little crazy
oh my god what is that first song
Undone (The sweater song)
You’re telling me this isn’t Kurt cobain
Am I an idiot or do I not remember the first song he played.
?
So_Operator it’s undone the sweater song (:
What’s the first riff?
