I accidentally stumbled upon this channel, and realized I bought some mic gear from Adorama a few weeks ago. What an amazing channel, and really helpful videos. I am a new loyal fan ;)
@cirmothe9 It's a 14mm wide angle lens. Not a fisheye. Generally, it's good for capturing landscapes and the overall atmosphere of an event...practically when your subject is far away from the camera. Close up images, like illustrated in this video will appear distorted. One thing to note when using an external camera-mounted flash with this lens. Most flashes can't diffuse at this super wide angle so you're image's center will be lit up, but he sides will be disproportionately darkened.
@ny1fanta I think that's a fairly good walk around lens, particularly good if you're using it to scout potential areas for a photo shoot. The problem with zoom lenses that cover both wide and telephoto focal lengths is that you're experience a lot of barrel distortion, typically accompanied with chromatic aberrations and vignetting. If this is going to be your go-to lens to replace a kit lens then I personally think it's a great buy for casual photography.
@cirmothe9 Good choice on a lens, especially if this is your first prime. On a cropped Nikon body the focal length is equal to 75mm and is good for portraiture. On a full frame body it works well as a mid-focal length lens, ideal for capturing intimate shots since it leads you to be closer to your subject without intruding in their personal space.
@cirmothe9 75mm focal length isn't ideal for full body shots or group photos. It's much better for chest-up or shoulder-up portraits due to compression and the bokeh effect you'll see when shooting wide open. Using the kit lens for wide angle shots is appropriate. Eventually I'd recommend replacing it with a better "walk around" lens like the Nikkor 17-55 f2.8 or the 16-85 f3.5-5.6. If you wanna stay with primes then check out the 28mm and 35mm lenses from Nikon.
HOLY!! I just spent the last 2 days thinking about buying a lens. What a coincidence. Anyway I settled on a lens already. The Nikon 50mm f/1.8D AF. I wanted a prime and a fast lens and this was the cheapest they had. No money to buy anything expensive right now. It got great reviews.
@DCuerpoJr Thanks. Yeah, it's my first prime. And I think it'll be 75mm on my camera. D3100. Manual focus but I don't have a problem with that. I'm only a little concerned that 75mm is too far for me to shoot on a regular basis because there's not a lot of space around here, small rooms and such, so I'd have to stand back quite a bit for any full body pictures or group photos. But I always have my wide angle kit lens to fall back on if needed.
Loved the video. Learned so much from all of these so far. Look forward to each new one. One thing though, cant find the link to the lens recommendations.. Thanks..
Hi am Sam, i was bought new camera nikon p500 @last 2months before. as i want some doubt, what is the difference between the 12M p500 nikon camera and 12M DSLR camera snap-sorts, which is the best
Mark, is there any perspective difference between an image captured from a 300mm lens and an image that has been captured from a 85mm lens and then cropped so that the object has the same size in both pictures?

The link to lens recommendation is not available in video description. Can you share the same? Thx

mark do you suggest 18-200mm lens?
What's the name of the article on the site? I couldn't find it.
The D3s is most definitely a full frame camera...one of the best there is actually :)
@schiz430 D3S is a professional series camera and a full frame body.
Just the video i needed. Thanks
Again thanks for the tips
Lol. "Get close without being eaten." XD
Was the first lens Mark uses a fisheye lens? Or just an extreme wide angle lens?
