    Mark I have just received the SS Kessel with the new canvas bag and I find that if you leave the handle lose you can leave it on and still fit it in the bag.

    I use a homemade alcohol stove and often put a rock on the lid of my Evernew 1.9 liter titanium pot to keep in the steam and speed boil times slightly to save on fuel. I couldn't do this if the lid had holes. I bought the pot at considerable savings a long time ago at an REI garage sale because one of the handles had broken off. I simply removed the other one and use a leather glove or small square of leather to lift the pot. It is extremely light, being made from thinner metal than most other pots. I have never had trouble pouring from it when using a glove, though I rarely need to, unless I make coffee in it. I have a Snow Peak cup which I also carry in it, so I can drink hot drinks from it. I can alse reheat those drinks, should they become cold, something not possible with a plastic (or wooden) cup. The Evernew pot, btw, is made in Japan, not mainland China, which is important to me for sociopolitical reasons.
    As a hiker, weight is very important. Features, not so much. It is 3-1/8 oz. (145 grams).
    Otoh, the Uberleben pot is a nice design, and good for cooking over a campfire or wood stove.
    Thanks, Mark!
    I just read your response to another comment saying that Uberleben is moving the manufacture of the pot to the USA from China.
    Good move!

    • @MarkYoungBushcraft
      @MarkYoungBushcraft  3 года назад +1

      I can understand if I was an ultralight hiker every gram of alcohol would be counted and not wasted to steam escaping the pot. For me though, I use mostly small wood stoves, as you can tell from the soot on the pot. Fuel economy is not as big a deal to me. I do like the idea of putting a weight on the pot lid to increase pressure inside. Thanks for commenting

    I'll be looking forward to seeing it in use. It seems pouring hot steaming liquid would be awkward with your hand having to be above the steam.

    • @MarkYoungBushcraft
      @MarkYoungBushcraft  3 года назад

      It has appeared in a few videos. Also, check out my original Kessel video. Steam has not been more an issue with this than other kettles or pots. Thanks for commenting

    Keep in mind one thing about the stainless steel pot that you measured it against. It has the longer handle, and the paracord wrap. Now the titanium is still going to be a lot lighter but according to the literature the new stainless steel pot weighs 11 oz. The titanium is listed as weighing 7.3 oz which is pretty much spot on with what you got so I would suspect that 11 oz is an accurate number for the new stainless steel pot.
    All in all though a great video, and it largely convinced me to get this pot but in the stainless steel version since I will sometimes be doing real cooking in it instead of just boils.

    2:39 the crimped metal spout!
    Ive been looking for a camp kettle that could also work as a small pot, and the drilled/bored holes with a spot welded spout would be hard to clean, if i made lentil soup. The crimped metal spout is a lot easier to clean!
    I just bought this and am waiting for it.

    I bought the revised stainless steel version recently (there’s one retailer for it here in the UK!) and it’s so nearly perfect for my needs. The spout change might also have been to address issues with cleaning the pot after using it to do more than boil water. My one gripe concerns the bag: barely large enough to accommodate the pot without the handle due to that knurled knob, it’s really not suitable for holding the pot with the handle folded down. That feels like a poor choice, since the handle also isn’t a particularly neat fit inside the kettle, losing room to pack other items inside. A tiny increase in the size of the bag would have been spot-on.

    • @MarkYoungBushcraft
      @MarkYoungBushcraft  3 года назад

      I agree. I like the change to the spout. Yes, a slightly larger bag would have been great. Thanks for commenting

    Very nice review Mark. This is a sharp looking little kettle. I own several kettles and for some reason have always been drawn to them. I use them to warm camp beverages but I have also cooked meals like dry beans and sausage in kettles as well. It's definitely a versatile camp vessel to have and always feels a bit traditional to use. I have seen several Uberleben products that looked very well designed and thought out. Take care my friend! Blessing to you and yours.

      @@MarkYoungBushcraft Many thanks! Do you have a Trangia 27 kit? I was wondering if this would fit into it as a replacement for the original kettle. I've a feeling that the handle lug + the spout may make it ever so slightly too big in diameter (the original is 134mm at the fattest, 'mid point').

      @@MarkYoungBushcraft No worries. You might want to try one out for your channel. I've been around the block, and then some, with stoves and cookware & I keep coming back to my old Trangia. There's no better system IMO for actual cooking (as opposed to just boiling water) whilst camping where a fire isn't an option. The hard anodised 27 is best - although the kettles aren't available in HA which is why I'm trying to source an alternative that nests.

    Nice video! I just got the SS model, and so far love it. I do have to disagree with turning the handle around... That is very uncomfortable feeling and you really have to tip it alot more and at an awkward angle for the wrist when using it that way. JMHO
