    I have been following this product for a while and love the concept, but the limited power output was always a concern. When I heard about version 2.0, I got on the early waiting list and can't wait to get the new one to test out. My main use will be for charging my power station and the new version should work well. Where I live in the middle of the U.S., wind is generally not a problem and the ability to continue charging overnight will be a huge benefit. Thanks for the video Mark.

    I will have to go to the Kickstarter page. I wonder if this can be mounted to my deck in the back yard. Safety-wise, there is lots of clearance to spin around and it is windy often. It would be good for the occasions when a Canadian Maritime post-tropical storm leaves us without power for a couple of days.

      It's worth a try. I found structures like houses can deflect a lot of wind. Thanks for commenting

    No sun and no wind….who would have thunk renewable energy just isn’t reliable? 😀. Looks great, and if I could afford it, I’d love to pair something like this with my solar panel. Seems every fall hunting trip is mostly cloudy and windy.
    Is this thing safe to run in the rain?

    • @MarkYoungBushcraft
      @MarkYoungBushcraft  6 дней назад +2

      Hi Jim. It is IP54 which is safe from splashes. The company says it is good for light rain. Thanks for commenting

    G'day Mark, interesting for sure and like solar, cant beat free power from nature ; )
    I can understand why they include the mast/guylines as a stand alone kit, (pardon the pun), though reckon I'd be running it on a 6-8 ft tent pole and I wonder if having it sit just above, and adjacent to, a tent or tarp roof surface may catch/channel a bit more wind, depending on prevailing direction, kinda like a horizontal sail. In any case I think a vane wouldnt hurt.
    Ultimately, I reckon intergrating it with solar would be better again, in terms of variable weather conditions, (indeed night time), and overall grunt accoss the board. Mind you, with wind often comes rain, here anyway, so might wanna up the ante on the IP rating too.
    Cheers Duke.

      Hi Duke. Yes, integrating with solar is a good suggestion. Shine do feel the unit is rainproof. Thanks for commenting

    Cute but I cannot see using it unless you live/camp in an area where you know there will be enough wind most of the time. More likely to have sunny days more often then windy ones where I am.

    This is an interesting concept and love that it is a product from Nova Scotia! It is something I may be interested in down the road. Did I hear you say that the battery wasn't replaceable? I would be concerned about the waste of the rest of the unit and the cost of a new unit if I had to replace the whole thing when the battery died. Thanks for sharing. :) :)

    I gotta say for the price, you could easily buy a battery or power station with at least 1 kWh. So unless you're out for a week, I don't see the point. Yes, I know the weight would be higher, but just not enough output. Windmills seldom get anywhere near the max power output. And no, you don't need sun, but you do need wind.

  • @Tjensen999
    @Tjensen999 5 дней назад +1

    The biggest concern I have if I'm connecting a charging cable directly to the unit will be if the Shine continues to spiral in a single direction, the cable will eventually wind its way around the pole and bind up any further spinning, therefore eventually breaking either the cable, or unit altogether. 🥺🥺

    • @MarkYoungBushcraft
      @MarkYoungBushcraft  3 дня назад

      Has not been an issue. If the winds shifts, the Shine follows it. Thanks for commenting

    Mmm watching the video in its entirety it seems finicky and very specific as what it needs to be useful. I think solar is cheaper and less faff to be honest. Also they need to increase the water resistance of the unit. As that is when this will likely fill void over solar, windy rainy days..

      Thanks for your comment! Our turbines have an IP54 rating, meaning they can operate in the rain but should never be submerged underwater. Our turbine's electronics and USB components have an IP67 rating meaning they are waterproof.
