The patchwork one is super playful! Gives me a whole new category of knits to hunt for on my next thrift trip
You should check out designers like Paolina Russo and Asai Takeaway! They do a lot of those sorts of designs and Rihanna's worn them!

Glad to see I’m not the only DIYer and self-taught tailor that doesn’t own a serger. I want one so badly, it makes so many projects so much faster and simpler. My only hope is that my mom is willing to pass hers onto me once she retires fully from tailoring.

I got mine at a garage sale for $42. Keep an eye out at estate sales and on marketplace. Some people don’t even know what they are when they’re selling them.
Try looking around at garage sales, thrift stores, Facebook marketplace, offer up, and eBay! I got a used serger for $180 on eBay. It’s from the 80s and is mostly metal and heavy as hell. With proper maintenance it’s going to last lifetimes
Have you looked into buying an overlock foot for your sewing machine? You get the same effect, but for a much more reasonable price.

i actually really loved all of these all for different reasons. like i could see a k-pop idol in the corset, the sponge bag was adorable and the tank looks like something i would have worn in my everyday life if i had been out back when i was a punk rocker.

I been eyeing tops like the last one forever but they're all way too expensive for a college student like me. Is there any way to create that style of item without a serger?
Some sewing machines have a blanket stitch that would help you out! If you have that, I would sew a small zigzag stitch along the pinched lines, trim the excess fabric to be uniform and clean, and then apply the blanket stitch to wrap the trimmed edge. If you don't have a blanket stitch then a zigzag stitch might be best :(
I'm not sure if this would work, but perhaps zig-zaging the edges (with a short zig-zag stitch) could help replicate the look? I think a lot of experimenting would need to happen to figure it out, but in theory? 🤔
If you look up Annika Victoria's video where she makes a lettuce hem shirt she goes into methods for making similar kinds of seams with both a serger and a regular sewing machine.
The tl;dw is basically just using a zigzag stitch that is very tight together. If you can control that on your machine just turn it to the lowest setting. I can't do that on mine but it does have a satin stitch setting that would accomplish the same goal.

Lol I'm sure the Victorians would have found it very foreign. I love the modern reincarnations of corsets and stays though, and the way the shoe corset sticks out at the hips makes it seem like you might be able to get away with using it under an 18th century dress but who knows

It wasn't the historical accuracy of the material or the construction method that I was concerned about, though - should have clarified that, sorry - but how period-appropriate a silhouette it provided. Regardless, I think the shoe corset is genius and makes for a lovely upcycled look!

I was actually so inspired after your wall tapestry video that I went to get a loom on a whim the next day. Admittedly, my cheapness won over my ability to do proper research, because I got the completely wrong kind of loom 😂😂😂😂. I got a knitting loom, But I have been having a lot of fun practicing my patterns making squares, headbands and scarves. Once I’m more confident, my next project is to get the proper loom

Hi Julia! That bag is genius... creative in so many ways. Love the tee shirt. It's so creative to surge the darts into an overall design. Gives me ideas. I almost always have a gap at the arm, and need to incorporate darting into the design... Don't have a surger, so hopefully I can do something with a regular machine.
