  • I present to you three supernatural tales of a North Edinburgh landmark.
The Wardie Steps built in 1896 as a channel to the busy Granton Harbour. The dark venal has more than it's fare share of stories to tell.
Starting in the 1960s, hear the tale of a worker from the harbour and his terrifying confrontation in the dark of night.
Forward to 1976 and the story of a plasterer who could not describe what he encountered on an autumn afternoon.
Finally the story of 'The Royal Forth Yacht Club' and the chilling revelation that summer in 1981.
Please enjoy this latest North Edinburgh Nightmare and consider the question of
"What's at the Bottom of Wardie Steps".
Many thanks as always to the great
    edinphoto.org
for wonderful pictures of the area.
    Many thanks also to
    'Kenneth G Williamson on Flickr'
for the great tram picture on Granton Road.
Special thanks to the wonderful Nicholas Gasparini, Myuu for the suitably haunting music.

The amount of times I've walked through there stoned at all times of day and night I have to assume ghosts don't want to bother me. Seen dozens of foxes there, and even a mouse once too. There's also a gorgeous and friendly ginger cat that likes to catch some sun on the high wall. Definitely a quirky little spot. Thanks for the cool video.

I've just came across this video. And I have cold shivers all over. 19 years ago I was working on a renovation job at Wardle Square at the foot of the steps. One day I decided to go up the steps. as I wanted some lunch. as I knew there there was shops nearby at the top of the steps. Halfway up the steps I saw a shape. Don't know what it was as it was faint. I froze for seconds. Then this fainted shape came towards me .and passed passed through me. I then ran down the steps and into the cottage I was working in. and told my colleagues what had happened!!! I never went up those steps whilst I worked in Wardle Square Square again!!!!

L😊ve it! But… the most safest steep steps to walk in north western Edinburgh to go fishing leading onto Granton harbour and a few mins to Newhaven . It’s a jewel and lovely to learn some history of the path and had massive character .

So the last short tale is my fav one here.
    Thank you!
(I moved to Edinburgh on a nice day wich was 8 of May.
The fact is Mckenzie died on the same day.. And i didn't even know that. Maybe you know what i mean 😁)

Great stuff.. I have travelled the wardie steps for nearly five decades and never seen the faceless one to date.. However! Some of the people I have talked to over the years seem to have witnessed a thing or two along the way.
Old Mackenzie is calling you. The tours from City of the Dead are excellent and highly recommended...

My grandparents and family lived in Royston Mains Gardens and were regulars in the Anchor and Tap, many good stories from my grandad. They would have known this Rab. The one in the wardie steps story however came from Gilmerton and drank in the Gilmerton Dykes pub. Glad that you liked the spooky wee tale😃👍
