Great video! I been researching for something just likes this! I want to add a water softener/filter system along with a rain water collective system along with the device and rachio!
I was confused at seeing an above ground water line with the smart water valve installed. What's keeping that line from freezing and busting??? Was there more to that above water line that wasn't included in the video like how is that line protected from freezing? Is there a cover that goes over that line to protect the power line from getting wet?
I think it would but keep in mind that your pump is controlled by the pressure probably between 40 and 50 pounds but you need that spread so your pump doesn’t constantly turn on/off but off enough where you don’t notice it
This device is a novelty, full function requires internet connection and cloud based computing which can be shut down rendering your $500 investment into a cheap $5 manual water valve if the manufacturer's ends support, discontinues service or goes out of business.
A better alternative would be locally hosted operating software on the valve itself which optionally can be accessed via the ip address of the device and in addition having the smart phone app as well.
@@Mr._Craig None of these smart home devices really do that. Maybe the corporate stuff but not for the residential home owner. Always requires a connection to their servers first!
Can’t agree with this enough. Good example is skydrop rain controller. They were the leading smart sprinkler controller and now they are out of bussiness and talks about closing down the cloud service rendering you a very expensive manual sprinkler system.
Does your rv have wifi and are you retired and live on the road in your Rv? Seems like a lot of money for an rv unless you live on the road. Unsolicited opinion .....dont mind me haha you'll have these on the internet lol
This is a cool thing. It would be nice to have a sensor at each of your fixtures and for example on your hot and cold pipes at each fixture there would be a shut off valve so for example let's say you don't want to physically turn the faucet on or off you could have free set temperatures and you could just say "Turn Kitchen Sink on" and the kitchen sink would go on and it would come on at a temperature you preset. The system could work with other types of faucets and devices this would be a good feature as well kind of like the Alexa DOT would work with the smart lights and smart plugs. you could even Alexa or your Google home to smart faucets so you can operate different actual faucets in your home you can even flush the toilet without being by the toilet it would even let you know if the toilet was plugged when you flushed it so you could get to it as quickly as possible plus it would let you know which toilet was having a problem or if you left the water on in a room.
Am I the only one that noticed the use of a (not insulated for external use) wire plugged into that device outdoors? A few good downpours, and your power source will be fried.
Yes and is it UL Listed? I'm a licensed electrician and would not want a low voltage cable plugged into outdoors. It should have a battery and be charged by the water's flow. 😎
Is there a demand for something so expensive like this? This problem has already been addressed and solved. This is a cool gadget but not very practical for the average home owner. You can clearly see the target market for this device is the home they went into to show this..
Can't imagine it using that much electricity, maybe about as much as a typical wifi security camera. as for cyberattack, worst that can happen is what? they close your water for a while? you can just unplug it and manually turn it back on.

You need to find where the feed pipe that comes up from the concrete into the house. I know that in older, pre 1960's houses, that the water meter is connected to it which makes it easy to find, so that's the first thing I would look for is a water meter inside the house.
@@scotttovey Thanks for the reply. That makes sense. I know where the water meter is on the curb so I imagine that the pipe comes in on that side of the house. Do plumbers have equipment to easily locate this pipe? That side of the house would be perfect because I have an electrical outlet outside already. Although it might not be this product, a remote shutoff value could save a lot of money if tied to water sensors in the house. You gotta pay one way or another!
@@ifoam Plumbers should be able to locate the pipe. Does your house have a main shutoff valve for the water? It should, if not, someone really screwed that up. In any case, that would be the best location for the valve.
@@scotttovey It does but it's out by the street. For electricity, the value would need to be closer. I already looked into max distance for those DC adapters.
Hi TOH , I use about 20-30 gallons of water per shower , thanks Ross for this survey ! 👍😊🔨🔩🔧
I installed one recently and the app works great.
What brand? Is there a monthly fee?
It's a good idea that it closes slowly. That prevents water hammer against the valve.
I wouldn't care one bit about water-hammer if it's preventing a flood.
this appears to have been discontinued already. great news for those who installed it.
How does this compare to Phyn Plus? Is there a particular smart analysis, monitoring and shutoff besides these two?
Can it detect a leaky sales pitch and shut it down too?
it’s so weird to see TOH on the west coast with sunshine ☀️ 😂

When can I buy this product?
Moen, Lowe's, Home Depot, Amazon. Google is free.
Is this something that would work in a home that has well water? would it get connected before or after the water pressure tank in that type of setup?

I hadn't thought of the water flow as a power source.
That's the way to eliminate the need for all cabling to the device.

It has a tight fit into a rubber fitting its very tight I'd say water proof installed mine almost a week ago but not exposed to elements.
as long as the outlet where it's plugged in is waterproof (In use cover) Moen says it can be installed outdoors.
