Hey Plony, you can't currently download playlists on spotify for Apple watch. Only streaming, so yes you will need a cellular watch for that ( or your phone of course)
Hi Tamara. Not to access spotify, but to stream your spotify playlists without your phone present. To be able to stream anything you will need an internet connection, so if it's not coming from your phone, it has to be the watch :)

Hi, i got a question to ask you; my apple watch is not a cellular one but if i downloaded all the music on spotify to my phone, can i still listen spotify via my apple watch with my airpods?
Hey Patrick do you know if this functionality would work on WiFi only as well? Say you are in the gym and have WiFi there and connect your apple watch to it and have spotify premium should it work? From the statement from spotify it seems like it but on my watch (series 6) the little watch icon in the spotify app keeps blinking and keeps saying 'connecting'
@@PatrickRambles I can confirm that it works even though I had to sign out and uninstall Spotify and install it again before it finally worked. Thanks for the tip!
Hi Ricardo, according to spotify, all watches starting from the apple watch 3 are compatible. But it has to be the cellular version and you need Spotify premium.
You need an internet connection to stream music. So if you have the cellular version of the watch, it works. But if you have GPS only, you'll need a phone or wifi.
I bought an appelwatch series 6 cellular version so i could go running without my phone because of this video. I did like you and it worked fine, but when i took out my airpods halfway through the run (when i met people), I couldnt get it to start back up again after i put back in my airpods (it said reconnect to wifi when i had cellular on). Hm, that's annoying. I've had other people report that issue here. It sounds like a bug in the Spotify app. Deleting and reinstalling the app has worked for some.
Spotify announced recently that downloading playlists to the Apple Watch to play offline is now available. Could you make a tutorial on how to do this?
Hi I just got my Apple Watch series seven and I don’t have a phone. My dad set up the acc form his phone (family member) we were able to get mobile data working but couldn’t work out how to download Spotify because it says purchased but requires iPhone. Do you know any way on how to download spotify??
Informative video. You say you need some sort of internet connection to stream from your watch to your airpods... What if you have downloaded all your spotify playlists so you don't require an internet connection? Will it allow me to play music still. And if not how are you meant to connect to wifi if you're going on a run?
Hi. You need an internet connection for streaming music from the internet. You can connect to the internet whilst on a run only if you have the cellular version of the watch and a data plan. Playing download music is not streaming. I did a follow up video to this one where I show how you can download spotify playlists for offline listening on your Bluetooth headphones.
Hello Patrick, If I have an Apple Watch without an LTE connection, when I’m connected to wifi can I still listen to Spotify with the Airpods connected to the Apple Watch?

Great Video,. I just bought my apple series 3 with cellular. However, spotify wont play when I go for a run. I leave the phone at home, but it seems to be looking for the phone all the time. I disconnected wifi, thinking that was blocking the cell signal. no luck. Also, from time to time it takes a long time for spotify to actually connect to my apple watch... kinda frustrating if I still need to take my phone on runs... defeats the purpose of getting a cell version... any thoughts? Thanks!
Well, actually spotify has just started rolling out offline playlists. But you will probably need Spotify premium for it, once it becomes available. Is not available for me yet so I haven't been able to test it.
I'm sorry, but I didn't understand. Does the Apple Watch need to be connected to a wifi network as well? Or is it only necessary for the cell phone to be connected to an internet?
Hey Matheus, to stream music you need to be connected to the internet somehow. The way I'm showing in the video is to have your watch directly connected to the internet via a cellular data plan with your carrier. Of course you need the cellular version of the watch for this. If you don't have that, then yes, you will need either your phone or wifi.
Hi, I'm able to play music on my watch but the sound comes through only one airpod, if I put the left one in the case the sound comes through the right one, if i put the right one in the case, the sounds comes through the left one. Is this a feature or a bug?
@@PatrickRambles Thank you for the recommendation however, it did not work. I can change the settings from the airpod that does not work like changing from transparency mode to ANC but the sound refuses to come out. Should I ask AppleCare about this?
Hi Patrick, I’ve got the cellular version Apple Watch 6. The problem is that I’m not able to get the watch icon in Spotify when trying to play. How do I solve this ?
Hey man! It's possible that it hasn't rolled out to all users yet. I heard they are rolling it out gradually. If you have the cellular version and it's connected to your plan, it should work, so that's the only explanation I would have.
I have a Apple watch Series 6 without cellular but I have downloaded music from Spotify to play offline. Will this work or do I need the cellular function? (Sorry for my English, I’m from Denmark 😅)
Hi Marie, unfortunately downloaded playlists are not possible on spotify for the apple watch. I don't know if that's because of spotify or because apple wants to keep that functionality for its own music app (which does allow that). You could still stream spotify from you watch but only if you're connected to wifi, since you don't have the cellular version. So you could use it in the gym if it has wifi, but not on a run (unless you bring your phone of course). Don't worry about your English, I'm from the Netherlands :)
Hi. Enjoyed your video. I have the jabra elite 85j which lbs paired to my IWatch. Spotify does not show the buds for connecting, only shows the iPhone. I tried deleting Spotify and reinstalling, that didn’t work.. I can get Apple Music to play through the buds. I would prefer Spotify though. Any suggestions as to get Spotify to play on my buds.
Hi Dale, I agree with you, it's ridiculous. I was already using spotify premium since it's my main music service. I also wish they would let you download playlists to the watch. Although I'm not sure if that's Spotify's fault or whether apple is being restrictive to protect their own music service.

@@PatrickRambles the kit for developers it’s out since the iOS 5 release, but Spotify don’t care...
Spotify would update if was not restrict...so why bother if apple do not allow some things...thats why they do not update
The fact that you need Spotify Premium makes it seem like this is a Spotify restriction over an Apple restriction.
I hope someone can help! I have everything needed but I am not getting my watch as an option in the spoitfy app on my watch OS. I have apple watch se gen 2.
Try logging out of spotify on your phone and back in.

Hey Patrick. I am not getting any option to switch devices from phone to watch. I am using SE with cellular. Can you suggest something? Do I need to buy subscription to get this option?
Hi! Yes, you need Spotify premium for those features. Sadly.
i dont have it and i didn´t find the apple watch on "play on device"
Facing same problem.

Hi. Do you need a cellular plan as well or just the cellular version of the series 6 Apple Watch to stream Spotify? Many thanks.
Hi Mark, To be able to stream anything on any type of device you're going to need an internet connection. So if you want to leave your phone at home, you need it connected to a plan, yes.
Please let me know if they update to include downloading songs from spotify to the device so that it works with the GPS only version.
Hey man, that's on my wish list is well!
@@PatrickRambles Just bought the 6 series GPS (my carrier in the UK doesn’t support the cellular model) so I’ll be keeping an eye out on this channel. Thanks.
Thanks for the vid. However I just got a series 7 Apple Watch and it’s not showing up as a device to switch to on the Spotify app. So I can only listen with my iPhone around. I have the cellular version. Anyone else experiencing this and, if so, what’s the fix? Thanks.
Are you using spotify premium?
@@PatrickRambles no not premium, the regular free version.
Unfortunately spotify requires you to get a premium sub to get the features.
@@PatrickRambles Aw bummer. Ok thanks for the info.

Yet anyways, very helpful and nice video. Also these drone shots are dope! 💪
Thanks man! Yeah offline playlists are still not available. Let's hope this is a stepping stone.
Now you can my friend :) Spotify released a update were you can download your playlist to Spotify and play it offline
It's rolling out atm, it will be a staggered release, just like the streaming function was.
@@someonebartender I just find out! Does this mean non cellular apple watches can play music?
@@jorgecerda Yeah. You just need to download the playlist first from your iPhone
Hi there. Does it matter which Apple Watch or series of watch you buy? Is it only the series 6 that allows this new property:)?
Hey Joy! To stream Spotify directly from your wrist, you’ll need an Apple Watch Series 3 or later, with watchOS 6.0+ (recommended 7.1+) and either a cellular connection or Wi-Fi. I hope that helps 🙂
@@PatrickRambles Incredibly helps thank you so much:)!
Great video Patrick, and it's pretty cool that Apple is finally letting Spotify work well with the Apple watch
Thanks JOHANNES!
That’s not the case apparently. It’s Spotify that needed to update its app.
And now I have to watch, because it doesn’t work. I’m on Premium, have the Apple Watch SE2 Cellular and it won’t show up. Doesn’t even plays Music that’s downloaded to the Watch. Reinstalled the Apps both on iPhone and Watch a couple of times, with no change. Don’t know, what to do next. Any Ideas? Got the Apple Watch today and for this feature I payed extra for cellular. At least the cellular connection itself is free for my Watch with my phone contact…
Same here. I have the iWatch 8 cellular and on Spotify, the option to choose my iWatch does not show, only the iPhone. Grrr!
Now that drone shots

🙂
Doesn’t U need a cellular subscription for it to work? The question is that I can play Musik just from my watch without the subscription?
I really appreciate answers, thanks
Yes, as explained in the video, you need a cellular plan on your watch. However, recently Spotify has announced they are working on offline playlists.
Great video 👌, now I just need an apple watch and Spotify 😂
Haha
Does this work with an apple watch SE?
I’ve been trying for 15 mins and it keeps saying it’s trying to connect to my watch for Spotify. I’m honestly just about to go back to Samsung, Apple is unnecessarily annoying
Hey Mohamed, I feel your frustration man! A solution for some has been to upgrade watch OS to latest firmware, reinstall spotify and forget and reconnect the Bluetooth buds. Also a hard watch reset dan help. New functionality is always buggy. Hard do say whether it's Apple's fault or Spotify.
I can’t find the watch option, only my phone. I have the Apple Watch SE. Does that change anything?
Hi, I have an Apple Watch SE as well. If you don't see the watch option at all, my guess would be it hasn't rolled out to where you are yet. Is the watch updated to the latest firmware?
@@PatrickRambles yes. The watch has the latest firmware.
Then the roll-out is the only reason I could think of why it might not be working. Hope it works soon for you, must be frustrating.
Exactly what I was looking for , thank you.

Can u do this without a cellular watch if the music is downloaded ?
Hey Plony, you can't currently download playlists on spotify for Apple watch. Only streaming, so yes you will need a cellular watch for that ( or your phone of course)
@@PatrickRambles thanks 🙏
Hi, is that possible only with the gps+ cellular Apple Watch? Or also with gps Apple Watch?
Hi Carmen, you'll need an internet connection to stream. So you will either need the cellular version or bring your phone with you :)
Excuse me for not being techy but in getting the cellular version do I have to have the watch on my Verizon data plan to be able to access Spotify?
Hi Tamara. Not to access spotify, but to stream your spotify playlists without your phone present. To be able to stream anything you will need an internet connection, so if it's not coming from your phone, it has to be the watch :)
Do i need a extra sim card or something like this to hear Spotify on the apple watch? Or is the sim card in my iPhone enough?
You need to connect your watch to your data plan. Not all carriers support this.
What would you recommend doing if the apple watch isnt listed as a device. I tried to connect the earbuds but the apple watch was not listed as a device on spotify. Is there anything i can do to add it as a device for spotify?
Are you using spotify premium?
I’m planning to buy Apple Watch series 6 Nike edition and I already have a spotify premium. I’m just wondering if I need to open my cellular data in my Apple Watch to play a music in spotify or I can download the music and just listen to them offline or I can download the music from my phone and all of my downloaded music are attached to my Apple Watch ?
Current you need to be connected to data. But spotify announced to be rolling out offline playlists soon.
How do u login on your account on the Apple Watch
to use spotify over data, the cellular version of the watch needs a monthly add-on?
Depends on your carrier. Some charge extra, some don't. Some don't even offer a data plan for your watch.
Bro is the search option available now ????
( plz reply )
Stupid question: does the apple watch SE 2022 have cellular? in other words: can i use spotify (offline) with my airpods without my phone being present?
I can't see the Apple Watch option when i click on the green phone? Is it not out in all countries yet?
It's possible, yes. Just to be sure, check that your watch is on the latest firmware and delete and reinstall spotify. It's helped for some.
Do i need to subscribe premium version of spotify to allow music play on apple watch? My current spotify is free & my apple watch is series 7
Yes, to make use of this feature you need a premium account.
i want to ask if we play music ofline from apple watch. the battery will drain even more?
More than if you would stream it?
Hi, i got a question to ask you; my apple watch is not a cellular one but if i downloaded all the music on spotify to my phone, can i still listen spotify via my apple watch with my airpods?
Hey! Only if you have your phone with you.
Hey man. Yes, it should work theoretically. Some people were able to fix it by signing out and back in from spotify on the phone.
@@PatrickRambles I can confirm that it works even though I had to sign out and uninstall Spotify and install it again before it finally worked. Thanks for the tip!
Glad it worked out for you and thanks for letting us know!
Hi Patrick, Great video! Just one question I have an apple watch series 3, this versión is not compatible with this function? Thxs
Hi Ricardo, according to spotify, all watches starting from the apple watch 3 are compatible. But it has to be the cellular version and you need Spotify premium.
Thxs for the answer Patrick, I have an IPhone 11 and Spotify premium, so it has to work 💪
As long as you have an internet connection it should! 💪
@@PatrickRambles It doesnt work without the phone? (Offline), I want to run without the iphone! 😱
Is this something also experiensed? If yes, do you know how to fix it?
Some people in the comments had a similar issue. They fixed it by logging out of spotify premium on the phone and then logging back in. Hope it works!
Do you have to pay extra for the cellular option a month?
Not in Belgium. One of my buddies in Canada pays 10 dollars a month. Not sure about the US. I'd ask my carrier.
Is there any way to listen to music from the watch only with the GPS version?
Hey man. Not with spotify (yet). You can download playlists with Apple Music.
@@PatrickRambles Well... you actually can. I tried it just before. But anyway it’s pretty much useless as your phone is like... right there.
What about downloading playlists from Spotfiy directly to your apple watch? If you don't have the cellular version?
Sadly, that's not an option. Apple music allows you to do that but not spotify (yet).
@@PatrickRambles Appreciate the reply! That seems like a basic feature to me! Hopefully soon...
I agree. Although I'm not entirely sure whether it's spotify or apple preventing this from happening.
Hey Patrick, I was wondering if you could help me. I have an AppleWatch series 3, I connected the bluetooh buds, and when I go to spotify a select the icon of the watch to stream it for the buds it stars to blink and it doesn't connect. Do you know why?
Hey man, do you have a data/cellular connection running when this happens?
@@PatrickRambles I don't know whats that
I mean, is your watch connected to the internet?
@@PatrickRambles yes!
Hey man, I sure will. Currently I haven't got the option available to me yet but I'll keep you posted.
Hi I just got my Apple Watch series seven and I don’t have a phone. My dad set up the acc form his phone (family member) we were able to get mobile data working but couldn’t work out how to download Spotify because it says purchased but requires iPhone. Do you know any way on how to download spotify??
You need to download and install it to the iPhone that's connected to the apple watch.
Can I stream Spotify music directly (only) from the newest Apple Watch LTE ? I've searched multiple options
Works from the apple watch 3 and up as long as you're on LTE and have spotify premium.
Great video! I have the 6 cellular version and the watch icon isn't showing up as an option to select. What should I do?
I just realized that you have to have the Premuim version.
Sadly yes.
Hi Matteo, this is Spotify's official statement : To stream Spotify directly from your wrist you need to be a Spotify Premium user and have an Apple Watch Series 3 or later, with watchOS 6.0+ (recommend 7.1+) along with a cellular connection or wifi. Please make sure you are also running the latest version of Spotify on your iPhone.

How do we know if our apple watch is the cellular version?
Great Video,. I just bought my apple series 3 with cellular. However, spotify wont play when I go for a run. I leave the phone at home, but it seems to be looking for the phone all the time. I disconnected wifi, thinking that was blocking the cell signal. no luck. Also, from time to time it takes a long time for spotify to actually connect to my apple watch... kinda frustrating if I still need to take my phone on runs... defeats the purpose of getting a cell version... any thoughts? Thanks!
Hey Brian, sorry to hear that. The watch is connected to your data plan and you're using spotify premium?
@@PatrickRambles Thanks for the reply. Yes, I have the watch data plan, and Im using premium.
OK then it should work. Some people in the comments had succes by signing out and back into the Spotify premium account on the iPhone.
@@PatrickRambles that worked! Thank you... again, great video!
So you can’t download music on spotify on the only gps version so you can later on your run listen to it withoyt any connection?
Hey! That sounds like a bug. Try "forgetting" your earbuds in your watch' Bluetooth menu and then reconnect them.
@@PatrickRambles Thank you for the recommendation however, it did not work. I can change the settings from the airpod that does not work like changing from transparency mode to ANC but the sound refuses to come out. Should I ask AppleCare about this?
Maybe yes. I don't know what might cause it. Hope it works out for you!

Hi Patrick,
I’ve got the cellular version Apple Watch 6.
Hi! Patrick. what do you mean your plan? Plan mean spotify premium or not
I have a Apple watch Series 6 without cellular but I have downloaded music from Spotify to play offline. Will this work or do I need the cellular function? (Sorry for my English, I’m from Denmark 😅)
I have Spotify premium
Hi Dale, are you using spotify premium?
@@PatrickRambles no
I’m not going to get Spotify premium because free Spotify I can’t get to work. Premium cost the same as Apple Music which works
Hi Dale, I agree with you, it's ridiculous. I was already using spotify premium since it's my main music service. I also wish they would let you download playlists to the watch. Although I'm not sure if that's Spotify's fault or whether apple is being restrictive to protect their own music service.
do you need the premium version of spotify for this to work?
Hey Zachary, I am not sure. I've had premium for a long time so I haven't tested it with the free version.
What he does not tell you on this video is that it's not free and you must have the premium Spotify$ 9:99 month.
