Where can i buy round acrylic ornaments that are 1mm thick??? I'm in Canada
Thanks for the demo. New subscriber. Great tips. 👍🏼
What a clever machine!
Oh and I love your shelving and baskets in the background there! 😊
Yes! Thank you!
Thank you Angie for your easy explanation. I did my first acrylic blank disc as practice today and it worked out great. I wish I could post the picture to show you. 🤔 Thank you so much once again.
You are so welcome!
Thank you. You got to me try something new on my maker!
Hope you enjoy!
Great teaching! Thank you!
Thanks for watching!
I cut pieces of .020 acrylic .51x2.6 on cricut maker (3 pieces) and glued them to the bottom of the engraved piece. Then I didn’t have to waste an additional piece of acrylic and it was thick enough for the base. Fits perfectly. I followed your instructions for cutting acrylic
Awesome!
OH I WANT THIS.
thanks so much your vid are so helpful
Happy to help!
Hi Angie, I received a Cricut Maker3 for Christmas and blindly subscribed to a bunch of channels to see what i could create. Fast forward to late January and I was getting a ton of email, almost all of it wanting me to pay to join some group so I have been dumping it unopened. I was cleaning up the email (again!) when the words engrave and acrylic caught my notice and I watched your video. It was about the night light. What have I been missing!!!! I liked and subscribed immediately. You have a wonderful channel. New and inventive ideas with lots of instructions and tips. You and I are going to develop a long term relationship!
This is so helpful! Thank you! I was wondering if you can engrave before peeling off the covering on the acrylic? I would like to try painting the engraving and then take off the covering, but not sure if that would work.
I feel like you need to take the covering off first but I guess you could test it.
Thank you sharing! I love the engraved look. Do you know if we can use ‘rub n buff’ on the engravings to give it color?
I have not tried that so I am not sure.
Thank you for breaking things down so well! Very understandable for me! I am curious though, what is the thickest acrylic you can cut and or engrave on??
Engrave is 2.0 mm thick. For cutting, try this: ruclips.net/video/VIq9oWM7oS0/видео.html
Hello Angie
I know its been a while since you posted this video put it was so helpful!
I was wondering if you have any ideas or videos about Filling/Painting in what you have engraved to make it pop more!
Thank you so much for all your videos!
For aluminum, I use an engraving marker. I think it would work here as well. Try this: ruclips.net/video/xGed4ytHzko/видео.html
Hey, I just bought a cricut maker. I’ve made a few engravings on using 2x2” acrylic blanks. A few I’ve had worked out great, they were close to dead center. But I’ve made some today and it’s slight off on the sides. It’s engraving more to the left. In Design space it is all aligned center, along with my preview window. I even use the alignment method of creating a small dot at the x and y at .25” to compensate for that 1/4th boarder. And it’s worked but it’s failing me today. Idk you’ve had that problem before with graphics not lining up in the center from DS to machine/mat. Thanks!
Yes I have definitely had this issue. If it is consistently off, I would just adjust your blank for that each time. If it is not consistent, look at other things that may be different, a mat that is slightly different in size, the way you are loading it, the material setting, etc.
Removable Double sided tape on the back may work to keep it stuck to the mat?
Great video, thanks for sharing! Can this type of cricut be used for cutter acrylic cake debossers and embossers ?
I don't think the engraving will work.
thank you for the demonstration, I have the explorer air 2, I read that the 1mm sheet is compatible for this cricut machine, do you still have to set the machine type to maker in order for it to show the option for engraving? will it make you install the machine type? because I dont have the maker. Oh and engraving is it for all material types like leather and wood?
I have never engraved with my Explore Air 2.
Hi Angie! I followed this video and engraved 2in acrylic keychains with a filled in design. I’m wondering if you suggest any coating or covering to put over the engraving so they aren’t so “scratchy”? I added vinyl wording to one side and have the engraved image on the other. Thanks.
All you can do is sort of rub anything off that is not attached. I haven't use a coating on them.
Thank you so much for this video, would I be able to add glitter on the back and you still be able to see the engravement?
Maybe? I am not sure!
Hi Angie, thank you so much for all your wonderful videos! For engraving on acrylic, I understand that doing the outline is the best, however if I have an image that has a couple parts that need to be "filled in", will the engraving tool do that? I'm hoping it will be like drawing, where it will just go back and forth a bunch of times to fill in the area. Or maybe a better example would be like block letters....would the tool move back and forth within the block letters or will it only go around the outside of them? (hopefully I'm explaining that correctly lol)
There is no option to do that in design space. You can find fonts that do that or trick design space with a fill pattern.
Thanks for sharing I have a question my first attempt didn't go well.... I lined everything up right but it looks as though the white rollers were catching the acrylic key ring.... Is there a way to move those or do I have to choose more thin acrylic? X
Yep just push them over. It may be tight but they move!
I'm trying to make a memorial ornament for Christmas. I love the idea of engraving the design. Is there something that you can put on the backside of the blank to make the engraving pop more? Any suggestions? TIA!
Hmmm...I have not tried that. Maybe experiment with paint?
Back it with foil?
Hi this is a great tutorial. I’m
New to Cricut and was trying the engrave feature with the engrave tip
On my maker 3, question I’m
Not able to proceed to finish the product because go will not light after I’ve loaded the mat. Any advice or tips?
Check for errors on your screen.
Great video Angie. Is the engraving in your tutorial deep enough to leave a debossed print on fondant?
I wouldn't think that would work.
Did you find anything for that for fondant?
Amazing wow does unique great video. Question the engraving can you feel it raised. If not can you emboss with CRI-CUT the same acrylic. Just wondering if possible. Thank you and much success to you in future projects 👊🇬🇹🇨🇦👊
The engraving is etched into the surface so you can feel it. It is not deep enough to press into something and make a mark.
@@AngieHolden thank you
Question Angie. if I want to engrave and then cut the acrylic into a shape at the same time can I leave the protected cover on both sides throught he whole process? meaning I usually leave the back on and remove front when engraving and leave both on for cutting. which would I do if doing both at the same time without removing mat. Thank you
First, a Cricut will only cut VERY thin acrylic. Second, I would remove the film on both sides I think.
Do you think this method would work to emboss fondant? Im trying to make stamps that emboss fondant and I wonder if I could use this method to make my own acrylic stamps? This would be so awesome if I could get it to work! Please let me know your thoughts. Like would it be deep enough to create an embossing effect or not. Thank you.
No. I don't think it would work.
I'm getting ready to start engraving arcylic coasters to go with my mugs. The question is Do you think it is possible to 'color' the engraving with infusible ink, wipe it off and 'iron' it on so the engraving has color? Just curious. Thanks....absolutely love your videos they have so inspired me to get more creative. Thank you for being here.
I don't think Infusible Ink will work. You can try a stamp enamel marker.
@@AngieHolden Cool will try that...you're the best
Hey angie thanks so much for such a detailed vid, wondering if you can do mirrored acrylic? I can't seem to find any info about this anywhere xxx
I don't think I have seen anyone do it either! Might be a good test!
I am looking to engrave mirrored acrylic did you manage to do this ?
I love this. If you wanted to add color to the engraved things would you suggest using acrylic paint on the back and sealing it or something else?
I like the engraving markers they make but paint works too!
@@AngieHolden i didn’t even know engraving markers were a thing. Thanks
They are amazing! I would recommend trying one of those first.
@@AngieHolden where would I find engraving markers. I googled and nothing came up!
Can you make a solid fill engraving or just an outline?
Cricut does not support fill so it is only outlines.
Hello! Will maker engrave on 4mm acrylic? Or will it be too thick? Also, can I fill the engraved words with painted acrylic gold?
Too thick! You are restricted to like 2.4 mm maximum or it won't fit in the machine. I would think you could fill with paint but I haven't tried it!
Could you ever so kind and test this on fondant? To see if the desgins you have emboss into fondant? To the the side that’s been engraved you press that side down onto rolled fondant and it should hopefully leave the print on fondant? Can you confirm this?
I don't think it is deep enough for that.
So where do you find the sheets for cutting and the blanks? What blade do you use for cutting them?
Here is more info on cutting: ruclips.net/video/VIq9oWM7oS0/видео.html
Hi Angie, I tried engraving on a few acrylic blanks, it cuts fine but it seems to be cutting the design then a shadow of the design and Im getting lots of scratches. Any suggestions on what I am doing wrong. Thank you
My guess would be the blank is moving on your mat just slighly.
New to your Chanel! I’m going to try this today. How long does the start to finish takes to engrave?
It is usually not a long process however it does depend on your design.
Hey Angie! Thank you for this video! When I choose 2mm because my acrylic is thicker, I get an error message. Tools are not compatible. I have the engraving blade in. Not sure why?
Do you have cut lines? You should only have engrave lines with that material choice.
How thick are the acrylic circles
Can you engrave resin with it? Also this will work with the Circuit Joy?
It will not work with the Joy and I haven't tried resin! Cool idea!
hello, is the shooters plastic glassed made like out of acrylic too they ar thick like the product you engraved, i need to engrave them but i don't know if it will mess them up do you know or have any suggestions?
I am not sure!
When lining up your design within the acrylic shape in DS, do you have to take that DS starts engraving down and to the right a quarter of an inch?
It will do that if you have it in the very corner. If you put it in the middle, it will start wherever you put it on the mat.
@@AngieHolden thank you for answering me so quick!
Hi.
I would like to know if we could engraving any personal picture
Do i need use special app?
You can engrave anything that you can upload. You will need Cricut Design Space but it is free to use.
Do you have a video about what you can cut with the explore air 2? That’s the machine I have and I never know what projects I can do
Try this video for a comparison: ruclips.net/video/eXXu8sWtJf4/видео.html
Ok thankyou!!
I know this is a older video but I'm new and had to follow you. My question is how thick can I use on the maker 3? I know this is a different machine but I need help
Maximum thickness on Cricut Maker is 2.4 mm.
This is amazing. Way more affordable too than a laser engraver.
Hi! Do we have to use one of these pre designed designs? Or can we engrave something we’ve designed on illustrator?
You can use any design.
What size is the thickness on the blank she is using?
Hi its my first time seeing your RUclips video thanks alot now I have a cricut joy will I be able to do the same with my joy.
NO this does not work with Cricut Joy.
Hi, thanks for the tutorial. I am interested in getting this machine but I was wondering can I use my own design instead of the one in its software?
Yes you can!
MkryrkeLSpnelu
Would the engraving be the same with a laser cut machine or more deeper?
I am not sure as I don't have a laser cutter.
Can i use these engraved acrylic pieces like stamps on fondant for example? Would it stamp the design on fondant? Thank you
I don't think they will work. They are not very deep.
@@AngieHolden thank you
How thick is the acrylic you are cutting? Thank you!
You can see more information about cutting here: ruclips.net/video/VIq9oWM7oS0/видео.html
Is it possible to cut a cake top like happy birthday with acrylic!? Or need to be just shapes!?
I am working on a video for this!
Can you engrave multiple pieces at a time? and whats the smallest perimeter you can do?
Yes you can do multiple pieces just space them out on your mat. I am not sure of the smallest as I have not tested that yet!
@@AngieHolden awesome. Thank you very much! I’m thinking like 1”x3”
Is it possible to change the depth of the blade as I’m trying to make an embossing plate for fondant
No not with this engraving tip. I don't think it can make an embossing plate.
Have you ever tried using the acrylic designs onto fondant? Pressing it into fondant to see if it leaves the desgin print onto fondant?
I don't think they are deep enough.
@@AngieHolden may I ask if you can be ever so kind and try and let us know? The acrylic blank would just need to be pressed onto rolled out fondant
Wondered why you engrave on the front? If you engraved on the back, you would have a lovely shiny front.
You can do either one!
Where do I get the metallic color backed acrylic or the pastel colored acrylic?
I am not sure actually! I saw some once and haven't seen it again.
Thank you for all your informative tutorials. I was wondering if you could use snap-mat to help locate the placement of your design when you are engraving.
So SnapMat is only on iOS so I don't rely on that for any of these tutorials as not everyone has it. I was just looking the other day and it does look like you can use the engraving tip with iOS so I think it should work.
@@AngieHolden thanks I’ll give it a try and let you know how it works.
Can I made emboser fondant Stamp? With the 2mm?
I don't think it will work.
Can you use those for fondant stamps?
It is not deep enough for that.
Hi! Would it be possible to engrave on acrylic to make Cookies Debossers stamps?
It is not deep enough.
Where can i buy round acrylic ornaments that are 1mm thick??? I'm in Canada
I have the best luck on Etsy frankly.
How long does it take to engrave something like this with the maker?
I have never timed it but it isn't long.
I'm using the identical settings, but my mat keeps loading in sideways, and I get an error message that says the mat isn't big enough. My blank is a 2.5"x3.5" rectangle on the 12"x12" strong grip mat...pretty sure the mat size isn't the problem! 😆
FYI: the problem was the masking tape exceeded the mat boundaries. Once I took the tape off, it loaded easily.
What would you do to make the engraved part opaque white? Now they look like they are kinda clea.
Use a stamp enamel in the engraving. They make white.
is there any chance you know what to do if the acrylic setting won't work. it says its not compatible. Ive been on the Cricut for house and no one seems to understand what im telling them. I can see the acrylic option however it won't let me select it. with out with out he engraving blade.
What machine do you have picked in Design Space? Needs to be the Maker or Maker 3. Then your design needs to have JUST engraving lines and not other types of lines. Remove any cut, score, etc.
oh can you do wood too also can you color that what you jjust did
Here is my video with wood: ruclips.net/video/3N6UcbZgyBY/видео.html and adding color: ruclips.net/video/s90YPyG7Q28/видео.html
If I'm using a thicker piece of acrylic, would this machine allow me to engrave a little deeper??
You could try going over it several times. I think that would work but I am not sure.
@@AngieHolden Ok thanks.
where do you purchase the arylic blanks?
I know you can find similar ones on Etsy. These particular ones shown in this video are no longer sold.
Thanks for the video even though I'm late lol. I'm Just wondering if ANYONE has tried to see if it'll actually emboss fondant?
It seriously is not deep enough for that.
@@AngieHolden thank you
can i do that with my Cricut Explore Air 2
Try this: ruclips.net/video/IDYTjzUy120/видео.html
When engraving on acrylic, how can I get the engraving to be filled instead of just outlining my font?
There is not a fill option in Cricut Design Space. You will find a few hack for making lines close together.
Is there any way to add color to the engraving??
Try this: ruclips.net/video/s90YPyG7Q28/видео.html
Can you engrave a 3mm acrylic blanks?
No. That is too thick for the machine.
Can you put color inside the engraving?
With a marker or paint!
Hi I’d appreciate if you can reply to my question, does the engraving tool etch the design or actually engrave engrave the design?
I am not positive what you would consider an engraving?
@@AngieHolden hi, is the engraving deep compared to the etching where it’s sort of etched like a scratch on a car?
Maybe slightly deeper than an etch but not as deep as say a laser would go.
has anyone ever engraved with the "protective film" on? I'd like to use a paint pen to fill in the words the protective coating would help!
I have not.
Did you ever end up trying this technique? I’m looking to do it myself and am wondering if anyone has had any success
Is there a maximum thickness of the acrylic for the machine to handle? I don't want to break it with a think piece!
If you are just engraving, 2 mm would be the max. If you are cutting, try this video: ruclips.net/video/VIq9oWM7oS0/видео.html
@@AngieHolden thank you! ☺
Hello!
Does this work with the pro?
It would on the Cricut Maker.
Hello can engrave acryl (plastic)mirror???
I would think as long as it is plastic that it would work.
Can you engrave solid letters, not just outlines?
Try this: ruclips.net/video/TTIX_y0e780/видео.html
Will this work on leather or skinlike materials?
Try this: ruclips.net/video/PTtxkjJuoYg/видео.html
Hey, how long did it take to do this? Thanks
I did not time it but maybe 10 minutes?
What tape did you use please, is it masking tape?
Hi do you need to change the needle?
Can I use my 3mm acrylic circle?
No. The maximum thickness is 2.4 mm.
Hi can it be for 4mm?
4 mm will not fit in a Cricut machine. It is too thick.
When I load the materials list, there is no acrylic listed anywhere. And yes, I have updated it. What should I do?
So design space uses your design to determine what materials will work. If you have say a score line, then it thinks you can't possibly want acrylic. More than likely something is making it not appear.
Hi, can I cut 0.5mm acylics?
Here is a video on what I have been successful cutting: ruclips.net/video/VIq9oWM7oS0/видео.html
Any tips on how to make non-writing fonts to show up on acrylics or pie servers.
You need a filled font. You can make them in Design Space or you can purchase one. There are free ones on DaFont.
@@kellymaldia128 Using Slice tool?
@@bethnorris9587 You have to find an open font and find a hatched texture (angled lines, cross hatched, doors, etc patterns) and slice then further. DS doesn't give consistent results when doing this. You can fill your font using Inkscape or other programs.
I like the writing ones best as they are the easiest. It is not easy to fill another font using a Cricut.
