Great content! Thank you for showing a bit of the decontamination/sterilization process. I'm in school now and it is alot to take in. Youre channel keeps me motivated!
@@vxillan8671hey! It’s going really good! For my program we needed to have prerequisites and then the actual surgical tech program is one school year. I’ll be graduating this coming May with my associates in surgical technology and then in June I’ll be taking the certification exam. I’m in dfw doing the program. That’s good you’re thinking of doing the program cause you could be done by the time you’re 20. Just depends on the schools near you. I’m 21 rn and it’s a really good career choice. I don’t have prior medical experience but you don’t need any for the program. Just pay attention to your science classes like a&p and micro. For the actual program, I’m 3 months in and I’d say now it’s getting a little difficult. For my school fall semester includes 2 lecture classes and lab class. In the spring we’re doing lecture and getting paired with hospitals to do our clinicals. We need to assist in 150 cases so we can sit in for our exam. Sorry it’s so much info but if you have any more questions please let me know!
Wow! Really enjoyed your video. Thank you for taking the time to make it. My daughter will start surgical tech school this May and she is super excited. She is a veterinarian technician right now, but does not make the kind of money that she would make in a hospital or for a private surgeon. You look so much peace! You can tell the Holy Spirit is right there with you ! 🙏🙏🙏👏👏👏 God bless you !
Love your videos super informed! I was leaning towards CST or LPN . But i would rather be behing the scenes ,BUT some people say surg tech you csnt really climb a ladder . Idk so many options. And LPN is 12 months ad CST theres one program i found here and its 24 months long AS

@@breana_janel I just signed up for updates at my local offices. The pay will be based off where you live and experience. No one makes 100k… You’ll have to travel to make that kind of money and you need at least 2 years of experience to get travel contracts

I've just been accepted into the surgical tech program! Woohoo!!! Something I did not realize prior to applying was that latex exposure may be a concern in the OR? I have an allergy. I'm sure they limit or don't use latex supplies for patients w/ an allergy, but are there accommodations for workers w/ latex allergies?
First congrats!!!! They typically don’t use latex that much but there’s a few things to watch out that you may come in contact with, like latex Foley catheter, some surgeons use latex gloves, and there’s a few other supplies that may have latex just check your packaging
I know in my area you can for specialize in cardio straight out of school since cardio has their own dedicated surgical tech team at my local hospital. It probably just depends on what's around you and how the hospitals and surgery centers operate.
Process of elimination, as I went through my 2 years at the hospital I kept track of each specialty and case I liked and didn’t like lol then started a job search for specific specialties
@LifeWithSheree ok that's good to know. Thank You. I was stuck between surgical tech or lpn but wearing a mask all day I wouldn't be able to handle it lol
I love the fact you work alone at your own pace . NO drama . I like that a lot . 💙

What are your hours like ? Instead of a trauma hospital where else can you do this position at? I also don’t want to be stressed on the job 😭
On days that we have scheduled surgery it can be 7-3 or like 7-5 depending on the length. Other days 9-5 … you can work at Surgery centers!
Any advice for school I’m looking to start this semester any tips for studying etc?

I’m about to get into the program (in FL)
How’s the pay ? Roughly
Roughly starting out can be anywhere from 45k-50k a year depending on your state ofcourse !
Are you a scrub person or a circulator ?? I m studying surgical technology also but i m not sure about some things? Can you plz tell mr.
Surgical tech as I mentioned
I notice I have to take microbiology for perioperative services, is this the same as a regular microbiology class
Sorry for the late response but I believe so yes
It’s crazy because I’m in school to be a surg tech and we have to stand 12 inches away from the table and never allowed to open like that🥴
It’s so extra

Hello! Can you let us know where you got your certification from?
NBSTSA
What do you do in between surgeries? Or days of no surgery?
We don’t typically have a huge gap in between surgeries. If there’s no surgeries I help out in clinic, stock, clean etc
Thank you!
Can you specialize in plastic right after school or do you have to get experience first?
you can, may be a little difficult.
How many years did you work in hospitals before switching to private practice?
2
Did the office do anything special for Surgical Tech Week?
My surgeons were at the hospital all last week so no 👎
What was your process of specializing ?

@@davinamenchion9789 as a surgical tech you’ll be wearing a mask a lot once scrubbed in which can be for hours you will need a mask at all times.

Depends on the day and how many cases I have but I work 32 hours per week
