That's just a theory but in the scp foundation forums it says that 096 was killed by the snapping of neck from peanut boi.
There are several theories about how 096 was terminated and several other players theories but I find that the scp forums are most viable as a source of information.

Scp-173 is unable to make noises other than concrete scraping while it moves, it cannot move while being looked at, it is made of concrete, and snaps your neck at the base of the skull.

scp 173 is "the statue" if you look at it, it does nothing, but when you blink or look away. it teleports toward you. its killing method is snapping people's necks from behind.

SCP 173, object class, Euclid. If no one is looking at SCP 173, then he will very quickly snap the nearest person neck.
You can't look away from SCP-173 or he'll teleport behind you and snap your neck. That's why you're Not supposed to turn around. Or look away from him.
