Pressure Drops in Series Circuits

  • When several hydraulic components are connected in series, and each component adds some resistance to flow, what effect does that have on the upstream pressure? The answer is surprising to some people, but it's actually very simple.

    I have been thinking the discharge pressure of liquid from the pump is the pressure reading reflected on the pressure gauges. As it passes through each resistance, it drops accordingly, and that's what we call the pressure drops. This means, the last pressure gauge does not always show 0 psi, as the pressure delivered from the pump may not be just enough, to get the liquid through all the resistances.

    So if you need put a relief valve near the pump. What would you set that too?

    Can work in high pressure washer?

  • @riyadhmaintenance9629

    I think Pressure compensated pump is suitable in this case but fixed displacement pump such as gear pump not suitable due to continued uploading pressure in circuit.

    How do we maintain the same system pressure with multiple components connected in series?

  • @jermainepermaul4451
    @jermainepermaul4451 Год назад +1

    What happens if you dead head the pressure after the last gauge. I think all the gauge with go up and read the same pressure ( pump max pressure )

    Does it not depend on the pump capacity as well ? If I have a pump which can deliver 10,000 psi ?

    • @teis79
      @teis79 Год назад +1

      The pump can only deliver the pressure that is needed. So no matter the capabilites of the pump, if the delta P over the components is 100 bars, the pump outlet will be 100 bars. Just like you don't use 100 pounds of force to lift a 10 pound weight, even if you are much stronger.

    How is the flow rate affected by the pressure drops?

    • @Qwerty22091997
      @Qwerty22091997 3 года назад +1

      It's not affected, those systems have positive displacement pumps, the flow rate only depends on the pump's speed, and we always assume that the motor is powerful enough to maintain a constant speed. What will change, with the restrictions to flow, will be the power consumption of the motor. Probably you had already figured this out in the last year.

    Lets say valve 1 will be destroyed at a pressure of 350 psi.
    Will this valve be destroyed when there is 600 psi of system pressure, but just 300 psi of delta pressure?
