I rarely comment on RUclips Videos, but this four-year-old Video solved a problem I spent days on in 3 minutes. lol. Even with the L2TP ports open on my router, I couldn't connect to my VPN and this registry setting solved it immediately. Thanks for posting!
i am facing this error when i am connecting VPN. The remote connection was not made because the attempted vpn tunnels failed. the vpn server might be unreachable. if this connection is attempting to use an L2TP/IPsec tunnel, the security parameters required for IPsec negotiation might not be configured properly
No, this message means that you have to enable GRE and IKE passthrough in your router. Some routers have this as a configuration option in their security or firewall section.
Didn't work for me (I think it's because my router is no letting me open 1723 port for my VPN or else, it would've worked, I think) but thanks for the video anyways. I appreciate the effort.
@@gauravgandal6899 I am not sure what you mean. Windows 10 by default will allow these ports through it's firewall, so it is only the router that the ports have to be open on.
It works for me in Win 10 64-bit Pro. I've created AssumeUDPEncapsulationContextOnSendRule=2 (DWORD type) under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\PolicyAgent Then rebooted. In my case I had to check also protocol CHAP (along with MS-CHAP v2) in adapter properties of VPN on Security tab.

Hi, the ports for L2TP are 500, 1701 and 4500 UDP, so you should check if all of these are forwarded.
@@MacpczoneUk thanks man. you saved me. i was searching for this answer
