this Italian-American company knows how to make high quality products (without breaking your bank). I have their $199 headphones and they sound at least as good as my $599 Seihenser! Consumer Reports magazine also ranked these headphones #1 in their annual reviews. i don't have a turntable, btw.
About 15 years ago, I gave my 78's to a guy. I wish I had kept them. King Cole Trio, Al Jolson, Margaret Whiting, Sarah Vaughn, Judy Garland, Doris Day, Vaughn Monroe.
Oh no!
Great video. could you do a presentation of the best 78s in your collection?
Could be but unfortunately the topic never interests much…if you want more info and know about some cool recordings don’t miss this video I made on the 78s world: ruclips.net/video/_aybfww2nIg/видео.htmlsi=g3ZftIe6dKkwYew8
I wouldn't say that's cheap but it has good results you showcase it well. I use a Audio Technica at 102 with very basic conical stylus for my 78RPM - have clean playback and accurate tracking with this humble setup . Here in Canada I find many 'pop music' 78's from the 50s that are usually in excellent condition and result in fantastic sound. I have 2 examples on my channel , the Platters "twilight time" and the B side.
Curious, I bought a 1929 Rachmaninov Concerto n~2 in Shellac because is my favourite piece, and an Audio-Technica just for that, its weird to see it so fast.. it looks like it is going to desintegrate :)
My dog Betty was named after that song.
The mos important, and perhaps overlooked aspect in shellac playback is to have different stylus widths. Companies had different groove sizing.
That and much more is in the full video I made dedicated to 78rpm linked in the video description.
@@anadialog thank you for that information. I really appreciate it.
Check out the 60s rock version of Black Betty by Ram Jam. It's great and on RUclips.

That is why I choose this, because a lot of people know only that version or the one of Tom Jones. ;-)

How does the Grado 78e compare to the 78c?
The best 78 rpm cartridge and stylus is wasted money if people attach that to a standard phono preamp with RIAA frequency modification. You definitely need a flat preamp or a Rek-o-cut preamp.
I actually have a Rek-o-cut eq (it’s not a preamp, it’s completely passive) but there are later 78’s that have the riaa curve. I did a detailed video on 78s some time ago here: ruclips.net/video/_aybfww2nIg/видео.htmlsi=pXD6cOxXtxwze5jD
Does the Grado 78 have the 'hum'?
Not on my system, no, in any case it’s the phone preamp the problem in that case, rarely the cart
Can you give me the catalog # for the Casadei e Premuda: 'Mi Alma' (Carisch) 78 please.
I saved that video so i can go back and get my typology fix. 😉
Sure: CP 31014
a 78er in good, little used condition played with a good 78-cartridge often sounds better then the same song on a vinyl-Longplayer.
Here is a good comparison:

Of course, the 78rpm increases dramatically the dynamics!
A very badly warped record...
I'm digging
It’s perfectly normal with old shellac records, a good tonearm will handle it easily
I keep hoping the new video is the one you mentioned about the background reviews behind the new picked speakers and tube amps but this was a cool video. 👍
They are coming up…there is work to be done on them before a correct critical listening
