@AsiatikBlakMan 1 yes straight outta compton was the first hardcore/gangster rap album ever made, what ice t and schooly d did before that was storytelling
Agreed, if Gucci Time, PSK and Signifying Rapper ain't gangster rap, then what is? Straight Outta Compton LOL, yeah, maybe that's where it all started for you! Who told ya SOC is the seminal gangster rap record? Dr Dre, maybe? :p 6 'n the Mornin' is storytelling, about gangster shit. All rap is storytelling. +David Duarte , schooly d in psk said " I should shoot you dead". He said a gangster verse before I-ce T and NWA. Even Ice-T said schooly d influenced him. Ice-t sounds just like him on 6 in the morning. East coast started gangsta rap
Tunes342 He has one little line about "possibly shooting a guy", then he changes his mind. Ice-T's whole song has gangster elements in it. Ice -T has admitted that he basically took the rhyme style from this song to write 6 in the Morning, so Schoolly D deserves credit for inspiration. But PSK and Gangster Boogie are NOT a gangsta rap songs. Go listen to 6 in the Morning....also go listen to Paul Revere by the Beastie Boys, both those songs were more gangster than anything Schoolly D put out.
@TheCodedtestament Schooly D, Spoonie Gee and Ice-T pioneered on Gangsta Rap. N.W.A just took Gangsta Rap to the mainstream level. So, I agree with you. N.W.A did NOT create Gangsta Rap.
+TheCodedtestament yep. He started all that. N.W. A called Schooly D and asked if their song was ok to put out. This is before Str8 Outta Compton I ce t call him too. Ice T asked could he use his style, Ghetto Boys called Schoolly D up asked the same thing. And Schooly D Shut down Grand Master Flash show by rhyming better than them at their own show.
My first time hearing this one. I clearly remember hearing Schoolly D when I was like 6 years old. My big brother was playing his Saturday Night cassette in his car. So this song is 2 years before that album was released. I don't know how far his first records were getting distributed back then but I definitely can see who Too Short, Ice T & Eazy-E lyrics were influenced by. Ice T did say he was listening to Schoolly D and was basically inspired.
It is 2018 and I am just hearing this for the first time. I am thought PSK was the OG but now I find out he goes even 2 years earlier. This is straight up a West Coast flow so now I know where NWA got their influence from. Salute to Philly from BK.

He was clearly channeling Run from DMC with a twist of Philly gangsta swag. 52nd and Parkside (PSK parkside killers) was no joke back in those times.. Salute
reaz allykhan No, it didn't. Rap started in NY but not gangsta rap. NY was still rapping about parties and political consciousness when Schoolly D dropped. NY can't take credit for it. And the West Coast did not start gangsta rap either. Ice T jacked Schoolly D cadences to bring gangsta rap to the West Coast

Actually, Sucker MC's was first released in 1983 on a cassette as B-side to "It's like That". The two-sided release marked the start of Run-D.M.C.'s career as their first single, and it is widely regarded as ushering in a new school of hip hop artists with a street image and an abrasive, minimalist sound that marked them out from their predecessors. Both tracks were collected on the trio's eponymous debut album in 1984.
Yeah but Run DMC still doesn’t do gangsta rap nor have that gangsta image only one that was in the streets was Jam Master Schooly D PSK(Parkside Killas) was a real thing I’m from Philly btw so I know
i saw schooly d live in birmingham england 1986 supporting big audio dynamite....they were great...as i remember they got a rough ride when they hit the stage...at one point the young turntablist got a can of "red stripe! larger straight on the forehead! not good! if it wasnt for his baseball hat the guy would of been knocked out cold...but they fought on in style and tore the stage with some mighty beats..n lyrics...good memories for me.
