- Dandy Bear is a restaurant open in the Kendall section of Miami, Florida that is meant to emulate the retro 1990s Discovery Zone and Chuck E. Cheese's style. In the 1990s, Dandy Bear dominated the Miamian family entertainment market with three locations sprawling across the Miami-Dade county. One in Hialeah Gardens, one in Kendall, and one in the city of Miami itself. Over time, Dandy Bear shut down 2/3 of their restaurants. Their first one in Hialeah Gardens that opened in 1992, and their third location in Miami are both now long shuttered. This video is at their final operating and secondly opened restaurant in Kendall. The Kendall Dandy Bear occupies the space that once encompassed both a roller rink and a Discovery Zone family entertainment establishment. Video recorded by Destination CEC in 2017.
According to Dandy Bear's Fun Day Band Show tape #4, I think the Warblettes are actually called the Chicks.

I loved going to dandy bear as a kid, especially its play area
University Park location was the best, I loved it so much. Kendall location was good too which was originally Discovery Zone. When the University Park location closed it became a Chinese buffet, now it's a Davita Dialysis center. 😭 Sad how our childhood stomping grounds rarely survive.

@@destinationcec8815 Yes there were three locations throughout the 30 years they were in operation. I lived in Kendall and unfortunately I never went to the Hialeah location but have seen some videos recorded there here on RUclips. I went to the University Park location the most beginning around 1995 until that location closed and they opened in Kendall around 1999. One of my friends celebrated his birthday there a couple of years after it had opened. I like how they changed very little of the Kendall location from when it was Discovery Zone. It was almost like a continuation of DZ, with the Dandy Bear overlay of course. I did go to Discovery Zone many times since the early '90s and celebrated three of my birthdays there.
@@destinationcec8815 The University Park location is the one you say is in the city of Miami itself. This was the location (as opposed to the Hialeah one) that featured the retrofitted bots.
I remember being deathly afraid of all the animatronics but most of all the panda because when I was little my sister once dared me to try to touch its foot and literally like a second before touching it I think I faintly remember it making a noise or at least moving a tad and it scared me so much, I ran away screaming.
I think this happened literally the year fnaf came out too and it made my fear so much worse 💀
It’s interesting the animatronic band played English and Spanish songs. I’ve never been to this place but I’ve heard one my friends said that the pizza was bad and the place smelled way worse than an old Chuck E Cheese and it smelled like Kid barf and dirty shoes. It’s sad the way they didn’t care about the animatronic and it feels like a roadside attraction not in Florida rather than a fun amusement center.

Too bad the location they kept was Kendall and they chose to close Hialeah. I remember back in the day the Hialeah location having laser tag and everything. Didn’t last long though, I heard somebody got hurt playing laser tag and I remember they boarded it up. There was a big board covering the slide exit that was the way out of the laser tag room.

when i was 3 i came here and was terrified of this, i always had this memory of being in this dark room with animatronics terrified and i thought it was made up but apparently it wasn’t. i’m glad i finally got that closure lol

Update: Dandy Bear has a mask on his nose, but it recently fell off.

Just leaned about these guys from twitter. Wish there were more videos of them. Any chance you plan to go back? If so could you try getting frontal closeups of what all the characters look like? It's hard to tell from the only videos I could find. They look like retrofitted cyberamics, so I'm curious as to the backstory about how they got them.
A set of cybers was retrofitted for their Hialeah location that closed, four of those cybers are now static and on display at the Kendall one. This video is the Kendall one and is the last one open, the animatronics in this video are built by VP Productions, the same company that retrofitted the cybers.

Why is Dandy bear's mouth moving?
It’s supposed to, it’s an animatronic that talks and sings.
The location is now closed and has been since March of 2022. Dandy Bear's mouth was not working that well at that point. This was recorded in 2017

I'm not one to troll but Jesus dude you should have been recording more than just that bear and a split second of everything else here and there.
They didn’t let me in the showroom because there was a party and also everything else was basically completely broken anyway, but I agree the angle I recorded this doesn’t show much but I really couldn’t have gotten a better one due to the circumstance of not being allowed in the room. Lol

Anybody here remember the laser tag in the second floor of the Hialeah location?
There were 3 Fun Day Bands made, the first of which, was a CEC retrofit by VP Productions. These are not them. The other 2 sets are fully complete minus Dandy and on display there.
