My nerd-self started tearing up within the first 2 minutes of seeing the tour because this is 100% what I want to be doing in the future. Thank you for inspiring me even further to go after my goals! This is awesome.
I studied Animation in Uni and at my time at Uni I suffered from mental health. It effected a lot of things including my confidence. I graduated with no confidence as I got low grades & I assumed nobody will hire me. I still have a burning desire to get back into Art in the industry. You’ve inspired me to keep on going, thank you.
I'm on my first year in college, studying cartoon and animation. I have never hated drawing and making art more in my life. I have no belief that i'll be able to graduate and then im like "hell yeah i'll graduate". Videos of animators on disney are helping me to keep going since it's my dream to work there. idk why im commenting but i just feel like we kinda went through the same thing so i wanted to share it with you. It's been 3 years since your comment so i hope ur doing better now.
Being a Disney animator or artist is my huge wish. Everytime I hear disney theme I just imagine "what if I was a part of making this cartoon" and sadly I live far away from the animation studios, but I practice often to learn how to draw like Disney...hopefully one day...?
Yeah, i wish i could work at disney too one day, but unfortunately us policy doesnt allow you to get a visa unless you had a university deegre (& i am self taught).
Just curious how it works when the show is over.. do you move to a different show within disney? Or is your contract up and you have to find work elsewhere?
YES for the pen tool tutorial!! I heard my friends use it but would love to see how you use it. Love the videos you have been coming out with this year! Can't wait for more! :)
I'm in Graphic Design, and my office is also always FREEZING. They think I'm crazy when I never take off my winter coat, and use a blanket. It doesn't help that the vent in literally right under my desk. I feel you.
I used to be an intern at a laptop refurbishment store, it was also freezing as well (everyone looked at me weirdly as well when I didn't take off my coat) and almost everyone, including the boss, smoked cigarettes out the window, totally not understanding how wind directions work and that I'm pretty much allergic to cigarette smoke and the cold sooooo.....
Hi Laura The pen tool is definitely something I struggle with so a tutorial on that would be awesome. Also this is a great video and very inspirational.
I’m currently waiting for the results of a position I’ve applied for at Disney, and watching this, makes me see how much artists at Disney work with, and it’s amazing. I only hope I can get the job and be a part of these outstanding and incredible films and shows -💕
Ah! This sounds so exciting! And very useful!! I always wanna be an animator but if that doesn’t work out I wanna do stuff like story board artist or anything else art related on a big production! And this really helps getting an idea of how things work as a background painter for the show!! I’m proud that you were able to get the job and you’re having the best time there! And it sounds pretty cool they let you bring your cute dog there!
Awesome vid! I had the opportunity to tour Disney Feature, Nick and Cartoon Network and getting to be in those environments changes everything. I'm working to be a bg/layout artist as well. Thanks, Laura!
I am a senior animation major, I was just curious how do you learn all the procedures and stuff for jobs like this like all the nuances of how you are supposed to organize and procedurally do things? like did you know how to do all this stuff before you got on the job? like how to know how to look at the animatic and how to look at the color scripts and how to hook up backgrounds with others? Is that all stuff you had to know or learn before hand, or was it something you learned on the job? I feel like as a student I learned a lot about how to make entire animations start to finish (concept art, backgrounds, modeling, rigs, rendering, sound) for the most part except for occasional group projects with 1-2 other people, I do the whole process myself and so if something is done a little differently or unconventionally it doesn't matter since I am the one who has to work with it, with my animations and illustrations its not so important as to the process being a strict thing just whatever the final product turns out, where I imagine in a studio environment its more important HOW things are done because you are working with a team and passing things off.
Bubby707 I learned everything on the job! I started at nickelodeon and the way the assignments were organized there vs how they’re organized on my show at Disney are completely different. your production team will explain how things are done whenever you start a job, and you can ask questions at any time :) the way things are done at animation schools are totally different since at an animation studio job each artist has a very specific task they handle, and it’s a huge collaboration whereas animation schools you have to do every job. at a studio job a lot of people will have to view and edit your files so the production team for each show will have their own guidelines about how they want layers organized and how things should be submitted. hope this helps!
This... this right here was my dream job as a child. All I wanted to do was be a Disney animator. This was back when all animation was 2D, but it was still all I wanted to do. I had planned to go to Ringling in FL, but I couldn't afford it. Life got in the way, and I ended down another career path. But what a great video! I LOVED hearing about a Day in the Life! So, now, I'm off to watch more videos. Thanks, Laura!
im so ridiculously jelly of your job! and life!! I also always wanted to be a (Disney) artist when i grew up. sadly i grew up in northern norway so despite drawing all my life, posting it on dA, insta and so on, i never made it to Tangled-the series lol. But im superhappy for you, you must have the best job ever! Even if you just put in a glowing sparkly mushroom instead of a rock during a days work ;)
Question, has your work become more difficult recently? Since most movies and cartoons are beginning to move into a 3D setting and using modeling materials
I mean she started being a background painter in like 2014 which is around when this upswing in 2D animated shows happened so she's probably doing fine.
I just discovered your channel and while watching you draw and paint a character I thought, "I bet she works on Tangled". I'm glad I was right. Also, I'm super glad to hear that someone else had to learn the pen tool, especially at the professional level you were at! I loathe that tool. I can use it effectively one day and then the next I've got curves and points all over the damn place. Keep up the good work and thank you for making this channel!
Thank you for posting this video. You have given me a view in what would have been my dream Job. Unfortunately, I took a different path in life. An you look like you enjoy every moment of it. Thank you.
OMG! I love the stories. Synchronicities are very affirming. So I love how your art was an inspiration for the show style! Keep making the videos. Your confidence is contagious!
I need to practice with the pen tool. I have worked with Illustrator and recently re-acquired it. But, it's been a good decade since I've used it. So, I do at least have some knowledge of the pen tool. Right now, to get those crisp lines, I use the ellipse tool to ink my cartoons. Then just erase or draw to edit those curves. It's tedious, but it works. Though, I know getting back into the pen tool with make it easier.
I only watched two of your videos, and I’m in love with it!! You’re so positive and sweet and charming! I started crying since I’m a bit worried about my future, and hearing your journey has made me a bit more confident about mines. Thank you for sharing this, I loved it!! 😊
You have an amazing career. Watching this video made me think back to when I was a kid dreaming about wanting to become an artist/cartoonist. I feel inspired in wanting to draw again, thank you.
I just discovered your videos today (my two teen daughters want to go into animation). And more amazing- my oldest got to work on Tangled the Series. She voiced a younger version of Cassandra on two episodes (the bratty "Kid Cass").
I love these videos! It's cool to hear about life in a Disney studio. Also, the pen tool is amazeballs. I'm glad I at least learned it a long time ago, cause I use it ALL the time. :) Looking forward to the next video!
I’ve been wanting to discover a new RUclipsr to follow and thought to myself, I bet there’s a Disney artist vlogger by now and tada, I found you! I love your videos thank you for your channel and your videos ♥️
Definitely do a pen tool video! I just graduated college with a graphic design degree and STILL struggle with the pen tool. I’ve been getting more and more used to it but I’m not completely comfortable with it yet.
Great upload, I’m considering Disney or other big time animation companies to work for. I wish Disney had an office in Charlotte, NC ha ha. I’m watching this video for guidance, as I don’t know where to begin other than take digital classes on art. I’m a good artist, my portfolio is almost complete. I’m also very critical of my art. My standards for excellence in art are high. I do realistic art. I can draw a little bit of everything. Cartoons, animations in general are a piece of cake for me to draw. I’ve also done a couple of paintings.
This video was sooo great, thanks so much Laura! I'm super happy that you got to work at Disney and super jealous. :) Was also really cool your own art was in the inspiration book.... very cool :)
Love this! I found your video through something someone shared and I’m so glad I did. I’m a school librarian and former teacher. Always wanted to sing at Disney (I did in show choir in college 😊 but of course it wasn’t a job. Your job is a dream (except I have no artistic talent). Thanks so much for sharing this to inspire others! ❤️
I think the pen tool is so odd in photoshop and illustrator's pen tool is much easier. Then again, I just have more experience in illustrator and its all about the pen tool. Love to see a tutorial from an artist perspective.
I would love to see a pen tool tutorial!! I'm in the same mentality as pre-pen tool use and have absolutely no idea how to use it. Also thank you SO much for all the useful advice!!
Girl I had to watch the bit where you said "dylan obrien" several times cuz I didn't think I heard right and then you said he's your favourite person.... I love him so much hes also my favourite person. I respect you sm 💗
I recently discovered your channel recently and I am even more inspired for pursuing to work in animation production. Whether it be working at Disney or even other animation studios etc. Love your art work too it's amazing :D
Thank you for sharing this! Working in Disney Animation Studios was my childhood dream, and it's so interesting to hear about it from someone inside. I had no idea you work in the dark, but it makes sense now that you've mentioned it. Love that they let you bring your dog to work!
I really enjoyed this video! I like how you really go into the details of your tasks, how long your lunch is, etc. I am in fashion design and animation is kinda sorta far from my personal industry, but I enjoy getting the inside scoop on the animation world, or at least a smidge of a background painter :) Keep up the good work Laura! I have been watching your videos non stop ever since I've discovered you a couple days ago!
I absolutely love your videos and how you present your topics. As a student of animation both in school and teaching myself; watching your videos inspire me to keep rolling with the punches and hopefully one day work in a studio or make my own someday.
Laura I absolutely loved this video! I work with youth and a few of them last semester were interested in digital art...and I can’t wait to show them this video! Really appreciate you sharing this....and your pup is the cutest!!! Have a great day and again thanks so much for posting this!!!
HOW I GOT A JOB AT DISNEY (my art journey)! ruclips.net/video/Tlxh4zWoc3w/видео.html
You are the BEST you-tuber ever and you have inspired to have a franchise named maple when I’m older!(thank you for making your videos)
Yeah please tell me how did you got a job at Disney? And please tell which course must I take after my higher studies to become an animator?
Is it possible to be an artist for Disney Animation without a degree in Animation and as a freelance artist?
The fact that a Disney animator keeps fanart on their walls and is just as big a fan of Tangled as the fans makes me happy 😊 Thanks for sharing Laura!
My nerd-self started tearing up within the first 2 minutes of seeing the tour because this is 100% what I want to be doing in the future. Thank you for inspiring me even further to go after my goals! This is awesome.
I love how straightforward you are about the tougher parts of the job! So many dudes sugar-coat the whole process when they talk about it.
Toon Crate thank you!
It definitely sounds sugar-coated though
I loved watching how your day was! Definitely looking forward for more videos from you Laura! :)
thank you!!
CypherDen I love your vids
Hola !
I studied Animation in Uni and at my time at Uni I suffered from mental health. It effected a lot of things including my confidence. Same.

Build your dreams, make your own, Traxie. :)
Omg me too😍😊I live on another continent...😂
I give you all my luck!
Yeah, i wish i could work at disney too one day, but unfortunately us policy doesnt allow you to get a visa unless you had a university deegre (& i am self taught).
I'm so glad such a thing exists as a career as ''Background Painter''....I think i enjoy creating environments more than creating characters.
Just curious how it works when the show is over.. do you move to a different show within disney? Or is your contract up and you have to find work elsewhere?
I’m pretty sure she moves to a different show. She’s mentioned before that she also drew some bgs in Steven universe (I think I’m pretty sure she did)
I know how late this is but she said in other videos that she's also worked at Nick, and that you can move around!
Thumbs up for Pen tool tutorial :D!! and great video :)!!
thank you! and I'll definitely do one!! ❤️
Yay! thanks Laura :D
You literally have my dream job. I start art school to major in concept art in the fall, I hope to end up with Disney someday! Thanks for the videos!!
It made me so happy to hear that your painting became an inspiration for the style! It made my heart warm. :)
You probably don't even realize how inspiring this video is! I got slightly emotional when you said you found your own paintings in that folder!
Ahhh I love that there's artwork by Burdge on your office, makes me feel very happy about wanting to put some of the artwork from my favorite artists
This job sounds so interesting and refreshing. I love hearing about jobs I didn't even know existed. Thanks for sharing -B

Did you get the job? Hope you did
So it's not just my office that's freezing haha! A nice insight. Pretty similar to the way my workplace runs as it turns out!
Ah! This sounds so exciting! And very useful!! I always wanna be an animator but if that doesn’t work out I wanna do stuff like story board artist or anything else art related on a big production! You paint 7 - 10 backgrounds in two weeks? So up to 1 background per day? That's a lot of work.
