This song is so insanely powerful to me! Tyler wrote it after having conversations with young Clikkies about their mental health struggles, and wishing to help them, which makes me want to cry honestly! 😢

I wish I knew where to find where this was originally said but I got this text saved about it and its what tyler said about this song
Tyler Joseph about Guns for Hands :
"There was one show in particular that this song was inspired by. I was playing a show in Cincinnati, Ohio, and it’s just this kind of a barn full of kids, and after this show, more than usual, there was kind of an unusual number of kids came up to me and felt inclined to share with me what it is they were going through. You know, a lot of their struggles, a lot of their, whether that be depression or suicidal thoughts, a lot of stuff along that vein. And I just thought, I was like wow, I mean I’m-am I just in a hotbed of kids going through stuff, is this just kind of like a crazy ratio of everyone struggling with this thing? And then I remember not too long after that, I was in New York, I think I saw like a pizza shop or something and I saw a magazine that was at the entrance of the pizza shop, this big article about this specific town in New York that has a lot of kids, high school age, going through a lot of the same stuff. And I realized, this isn’t just a - it’s not just an isolated event, it’s something that there’s a lot of kids throughout the entire country - even the world - that are struggling with the questions that they have, you know, ‘what’s the point?’, ‘what’s my purpose?’, ‘why am I here?’ and when you don’t have the answers to those questions, sometimes it can lead you to do something that you ultimately shouldn’t do."
"So, Guns for Hands is talking about I wanna tell you that I know you have the ability to hurt yourself. You do. You have that ability. I feel like a lot of the older generation when they hear about someone struggling with it, their first reaction is like, “No, you’re not, you’re not struggling with that. Don’t think about that, you know, think about something else, you know, you’re just trying to get attention.” But this song was really trying to say like; “Listen, I know you have the ability to hurt yourself. I recognize that, but let’s take that energy and let’s point it at something else, let’s divert that, let’s kind of shift that momentum and look at something like art, or something like this music specifically, or even point it at me, you know, just point it anywhere, but don’t point it at yourself.” And so that’s what that song’s saying and that song will always be important to me. And I’m not a professional when it comes to this topic, but I write songs, and I feel like someone should say something about it."

One of the Clique symbols is a gun and a fist. He mentions his own disorder; self deletion. Encourages everyone who feels that way to take that idea of a gun and turn it into a fist of power. Doing so with the help of The Clique. The music was groundbreaking at the time to have such a serious topic with an upbeat

Cinematically I love how this opening scene ties to the scene in Navigating where Josh gives Tyler the Clancy mask 💛🔥
I always love how they pair very deep meaningful lyrics with such upbeat music. This one is for the fans who struggle with ideas of self-deletion and self-harm. Tyler wants to encourage them to not give up, turn the gun to a fist, and let the music help them fight.
Josh struggles with social anxiety, but you saw that he takes off the mask the moment he’s at his drum kit. That’s where he comes alive and he gives it his all every time.
The fact that their music takes you to an introspective place is exactly what Tyler wants. He writes music that makes people think. Even the name of the band has significance, it comes from Arthur Miller’s play “All My Sons.” Tyler puts so much thought into every aspect of their work.

The video was directed Mark Eschelman, aka Reel Bear Media. He’s been with them since the beginning and has done a lot of their videos. He also shoots a bunch of behind the scenes stuff. Incredibly talented and does a great job bringing their vision to life.

Such a great song and really shows how connected they are with the fanbase. This is a prime example of what I mean when I say sometimes it means so much to just feel seen. So many of their songs make me feel that way, this one especially.

I always feel a little bad for Josh as he stated he became extremely claustrophobic with the tape over his face and basically had to be reassured through a panic attack while they were filming this video. He is such a trooper for always committing to the bit. Tyler is just in peak form here too. Top 5 top video.

all of their videos, unless stated otherwise on the description, are made by Mark Eshleman (reel bear media) who is their videographer since 2011 and creative/media director. he is imo the third member of twenty one pilots. he shots all their tour series as well, and manages their social media. he is a fantastic guy with a great sense of humor, fits perfectly creatively with these two while also being their best friend. if you ever watch any of the livestreams they have up on their youtube channel, he's right there with them.
