ZEIMBEKIKO - greek dance originated from Minor Asia

ZEIMBEKIKO - greek dance from Minor Asia. Originally performed by partisans ZEMBEKIDES around a fire. At 20th century was brought to Greece main land with the greek refugees from Smirne. After that was widely spread and became popular all over Greece. It symbolize the readiness to sacrifice a life for a great idea, having the body buried to the ground and the soul to ascend to heaven. Initially performed exclusively by men, but the latest years women started performing it.
