    I've watched hundreds, maybe literally over a thousand guitar tutorials and I've never seen any presented better than this Diary of a Madman series. Not only did you nail the song just the way Randy did it (At least it sounds exactly correct when listening to Randy's guitar track), but the presentation together with the tabs is fantastic. What an excellent bunch of videos. This is quite a bit beyond my ability at the moment but I will work on these until I get them down and look forward to your other videos. This is EXCELLENT! \m/

    Great intro. There’s a modern classical player, Leo Brower I believe. Can’t remember the name of the piece but I played it when studying music. You can definitely hear where Randy might picked up the overall idea and made it his own. Pretty sure that was the word around at the time.

    Just stumbled on your channel and wow! Fantastic playing and teaching. My only suggestion would be to play the part at the start of each video as you did in this video. Great work.

    I just stumbled on this Diary of a Madman lesson series. GREAT stuff - been waiting years for a comprehensive and accurate tutorial on what I think is one of the greatest rock songs ever written. Thanks! I am now a subscriber. More Rhoads please! How about S.A.T.O. next????

      Thank you very much for that compliment, I too think it's one of the greatest songs ever written. This song was a very defining moment in my life, when I heard this song I knew I was gonna be a guitar player the rest of my life. I will look at S.A.T.O and maybe get to that in the near future. Thank you for subscribing!!

      I can relate to that. When Diary came out in '81, it changed my perception of what rock guitar could be and do. Rhoads's use of classical, unusual chord structures and "modes" (or whatever the right word is) to create the epic yet rock-ish sounds in this song took my ears to new realms. Just imagine what he would have done had he lived. Am glad his legacy lives on and he has influenced many players in a major way.

    Would you consider doing a detailed lesson on Rush La Villa Strangiato (studio version), including the acoustic intro and all chords/riffs/solos? I think this would be right up your alley.

    Whats the exact tuning for this?

  • @eloygarcia8723
    @eloygarcia8723 3 года назад +1

    Take note specifically at A minor add 2 over G in relation to what you have in tabluture or ( notes ) and anything you play after that...review this video and you will see that your choice of notes in contrast to what you have in your notes are not in sync to what you are playing...I am a novice player and have very little experience with a guitar ...You will see what I mean...I respect you and am learning off your videos ,However;I did notice this and thought I would let you know...I hope you will take this constructively and look forward to learning more from your videos you most certainly are a talented musician!

    Hey Steven I am struggling with the stretches on this song, it's really aggravating, any suggestions?

    • @stevemindickguitar
      @stevemindickguitar  6 лет назад

      Elmer Shiflett, if you look at the fingering of the first chord you'll notice that it's one fret per finger. If you go over the old warm up exercise your fingers will start to build the hand strength needed to play anything that feels like a big stretch. The warm up exercise is this..... starting on the low E string play 1 2 3 4 and repeat that on every string. You'll feel it in the back of your hand and it's a good thing! A couple of days of that and these chords shouldn't be a problem. Keep playing!

    Am I the only one who is really struggling to play this? I can do it, learned the chords it doesn't sound fluent at all though. The picking is not difficult but especially my pinky hurts from stretching and pressing the strings down. The fifth chord especially. Is it supposed to hurt. Is it because my hand is really only used to bluesy playing? Your guitar sounds great btw.

      Big stretches on my fingering left hand has caused a lot of hand ache, my tutor helped a bit by pointing out that my thumb needed to be more centred relative to my fingers on the back of the neck. Stick with it though, I've pretty much nailed this part now with a lot less hand ache. Tonight I fished out my classical and found it a lot easier, especially with the little vibrato at the end of the 2 string picking bit. Now to find the next part. Good job Steve, thanks!
