  • What a night at Wrigley Field, where the crowd booed Craig Counsell’s decision to pull his ace pitcher after seven no-hit innings. Imanaga, his catcher and the next reliever up didn’t even know they were on the verge of making history. And this actually started out as a bad day for the Cubs. For context, Sahadev Sharma checks in with Patrick Mooney from the postgame press box to discuss the scene, Imanaga’s seamless transition from Japan and what catching a combined no-hitter means to Miguel Amaya. You never know what might happen when you show up at the Friendly Confines.

Shota is the best part of this 2024 Cubs season. Even through the slog of May and June I'd still tune in to watch him pitch at the very least.
Now PCA has turned it up so I've enjoyed watching him figure it out at the plate. I don't expect him to have a .900+ OPS throughout a full season but if he can put up a mid to high .700s OPS consistently he's an easy 4+ WAR player.
If by some miracle he did put up a .900+ OPS over a full season he easily gets a couple MVP votes. Not that I think that'll happen but it's definitely a pipe dream I've been having as it would give the Cubs a true star player they've been lacking.
