I had the same problem! I solved decreasing the cpu to 2 cores. Than after the installation I switched back to 8

Downgrade VMware? Uninstall your current version of VMware, and install the old version. Mind me, my computer is powerful, but a bit laggy.

depends on your computer specs. My laptop is powerful but even it lags too. Mac OS doesn't run that good on virtual machines like on real hardware.
