Definitely prefer the build quality of the LD over the Bose. However, the Bose have a better dispersion than my LDs. The dispersion mitigates mic feedback which can be mistaken for clarity. They also look more elegant. I always get compliments and people asking what they are when they see them.

I hate to pile on the categories, but I think a portability category would be helpful. A lot of us DJ's are solo so knowing how manageable they are in comparison for one person would be awesome. Thanks for the video!
The crazy part is i have seen the evolve 50, Maui 24, Bose 16 and JBL in action. Not much of a difference except the power output. The evolves sound just as good as any of the other speakers of you use them in the right application which is under 150 people.
Intro (00:00:00) Comparing column array systems: LDS, Bose, and RCF. Categories and scoring system will be explained. Time-lapse of setting up the speakers. Speaker Comparison (00:00:55) Lineup of speakers: LD Systems Maui 5 Go (battery-powered column array) Bose L1 Pro 16 LD Systems Maui 28 G3S LD Systems Maui 44 G2S RCF NLX 24S paired with LD Systems ICOA 18S (absurdity) Missing speakers: EV Evolve 50S (personally hated, destroyed by Bose and Maui 28S) RCF EVOX 12S (comparable to Maui 44 G2S, but Maui 44 G2S considered better) RCF EVOX 8S (Maui 28 G3S considered better) LD Systems has the best two column arrays on the market. Audio Technica microphone used for recording. Warehouse garage door will be opened to reduce echo. Accessories (00:03:15) LD Maui 5 Go: Bag for columns and subwoofer. Well-padded. Bose L1 Pro16: Long bag with smaller compartment. Decent padding. Space for cables inside the bag. RCF 44s and G3s/28s: Separate bags for arrays and bottoms. Good padding for arrays. Caster plate on 44s clamps on, while on 28s it just sits on the plate. RCF NXL 24s: Full-length speaker cover. Padded cover for the sub. Casters are bolted onto the back of the sub. The speaker set-up process will be shown next. Speakers (00:05:04) The Maui 5 Go has an 8-inch subwoofer, is battery-powered, and has three sections: a battery, a spacer, and a section for high and mid-range speakers. The Bose L1 Pro 16 has a 10-inch x 18-inch subwoofer, a speaker array, and an optional plastic spacer. The Maui 28 G3 has a 12-inch subwoofer and speakers throughout two sections. The LD Systems Maui 44 G2 has a 15-inch subwoofer, speakers throughout the array, and dedicated high drivers in the top. The RCF nlx 24s has large woofers, high ranges, and an 18-inch LD IOA subwoofer. Each speaker will be dialed in to exactly 100 dB at 15 feet. Three different tracks will be played: a hip-hop track, an EDM house track, and a track with a lot of vocals. After comparing the speakers on the three tracks, they will be put back up to their maximum volume and a variety of different music will be played to get a full comparison. Pink Noise (00:08:21) Maui 5 reached 100.7 dB at the limit. Bose L1 Pro 16 reached 111 dB. Maui 28 reached 111 dB. Maui 44 reached 114.6 dB. Nlx 24 reached 116 dB when raised higher. Every 3 dB increase is significant to the human ear. House EDM (00:10:50) All speakers were set to 100 dB for a fair comparison. No EQ was applied to any of the speakers. A house EDM track with a drop was played. A hip-hop song with vocals was played. The Maui 28 had more bass. The RCF and LD sub had a deeper and richer bass. In Reverse (00:13:47) The reviewer compares the clarity of the LD Systems and RCF speakers. The LD Systems sub with the RCF has an 18-inch speaker, which provides a deeper bass compared to the 44 G2s. The reviewer plays a different song to compare the speakers in reverse order. All the volumes are the same for a fair comparison. The reviewer provides a brief commentary on the speakers' performance. Price (00:18:40) LD Maui 5 Go: $1,000 Bose L1 Pro 16: $1,199 (without bags) LD Systems Maui 28: $1,600 LD Systems Maui 44 G2s: $2,900 RCF nlx 24s with ioa 18 Subs: $3,500 (subwoofer: $1,000) RCF 18 with tops: $5,500 Maui 5 Go: all plastic with metal grills Bose L1 Pro 16: all plastic with metal grills LD Systems Maui 28: wood cabinet, wood tops, metal enclosure LD Systems Maui 44 G2s: identical build quality to Maui 28 RCF nlx 24s: subpole mount, no real connections on column arrays Music Testing (00:21:16) Tested speakers at full volume with various music genres Songs played: "Beat It Off", "City Girls", "Knock It Down", "Freaky Deaky", "Touch Her Toes", "Summertime" Noted clarity, bass, impact, sheer loudness, and build quality during testing Final Scores (00:24:41) The RCF speakers outperformed the Bose and Five Go speakers in all categories, including clarity, bass, impact, loudness, and build quality. The RCF setup had the best overall sound quality but could benefit from a better subwoofer. The Bose system has an impressive subwoofer but lacks clarity in the high end. The Maui 28s have excellent clarity in the high end but lack bass compared to the Bose and RCF systems. The Maui 44s offer the best all-around package in terms of sound quality and features and are the reviewer's personal choice for most events. The Maui 28s are suitable for smaller events with up to 100 people. Future videos will compare the Maui 44s to the EVOLVE 12s and test battery-powered speakers.
Finally! This is the comparison we have been asking for. 24:08 tells the whole story. Just watch their heads. I have the 28 G3s and I am very happy with my purchase. Of course the 44s sound better, but for the extra money and weight I will keep my 28 G3 setup.
I "had" the Bose pro 16's and sold them after 4-5 parties. A ton of bass but the column could not keep up. Also the column connection weakness was bad. I Currently have both the 28 G3's Love them for under 100 guests in a smaller room. Big room and its not enough. My winner which I also own is the 44g2. All around great set up. My only gripe is no top handle on the sub. Makes it hard to load and unload when running a solo gig. I actually sold my QSC 181's and k12's and replaced with the 44 g2's.
Hi, I am looking to buy the bose L1 pro 16 and even follow some gig log that DJ seems satisfy with them. Can You be more details for your insatisfaction ? What kind of room you did your 4-5 parties ? how many people ? thanks to come back to me with that because it's such a huge amount to buy them.
@@ericarbour1283 Yeah for sure. Ok #1 is I dont feel they will hold up over the years of djing. Im very concerned with the way the column attaches to the sub. All it takes is one drunk person to grab it and pull for it to instantly break. That is my main concern. #2 There VERY boomy. The sub is actually fantastic where as the column in my opinion is too dispersed. Not enough overall volume going forward to the dance floor.. Those are my 2 main gripes. To follow up the rooms I were in had 2nd story ceilings. In jersey a lot of our venues are built with high ceilings. My experience even if I only had 50 people on the floor is the sound got lost. Just not enough sound moving forward from the speaker. Once again the bass was powerful just not the top. In the end im not going to lie, its a great speaker for specific parties. I just wanted a great speaker for all my parties if im spending that much. Conclusion. The Bose L1 "in my opinion" is perfect for a low ceiling room and can handle a descent up to 125 person gig. If you have the money to buy a pair of the Bose I instead would buy a used set of Evox 12's for the same cost.
Hey Rick. There is no NLX 24. you have the NXL 24. Are you planing to get RCF Subwoofers for the Tops? Would recommend the 8004. They play very well with the NXL24.
The Bose subs are suppose to be the equivalent to a 15" sub, so it should be next to the Maui 44. If you give the RCF two ICOA subs stacked you'd have enough to hang with them. Other than that, great video. I always enjoy your videos and reviews. Keep up the awesome work!
Original wood cabinet Evox 8's I feel hand with the Maui 28s. Also you are missing Turbosound Inspire models. DB Technologies ES1203 (In the category of the Maui 44's and Evoke 12s). Also HK audio makes some good line arrays. AND the true king of column arrays the K-Array systems for $20-$30k The one with the 21" subs hits 143DB, we were asked to no longer use it on the DJExpo Show Floor when I worked a booth there. But great review, just some holes.
As far as battery systems go I love the jbl eon one mk2 column array. I sold my jbl eon one compacts and I was disappointed with that speaker from the get go. It had a great tweeter that could carry sound but that was about it. But I love the eon one mk2. My main setups are the maui 44g2 but the jbl is fun to run cordless and holds its own with 2 of them.
I don't know why but in the UK and from my experience the most common speakers I see DJs using, are the RCF Evox J8 or the J12 or the original Evox 12 . My only guess to why, is that wedding venues in the UK are noticeably smaller. I would confidently say, that 85 to 90% of UK Wedding DJs use one of the variants I have mentioned.
That comes down to what speakers are easiest to come across. The shipping cost to the us for rcf stuff makes them significantly more expensive than other option which is why its less common
Great shootout! Interestingly, I have the far left & right speakers. I use the Maui 5 Go for ceremony and cocktail (probably based on a review by you). I recently got a pair of the RCF NXL 24-A-MK2. Before I owned them, I would see DJs using them with only a short pole from the sub and wondered why they had them so low. Now I understand. The vertical dispersion is only 30 degrees and the high end driver is way at the top. This is by design so that they can throw sound for long distances especially when used outdoors. However, when using them indoors near the dance floor, they need to be lower, otherwise the highs will go over people's heads on the dance floor. I think they would have sounded even better at this close distance if they were lower. I bought some short poles from Amazon as my regular sub poles were too long.
I’ve been using the Bose L1 model II since it was launched. it’s been great, worked like a horse, never had an issue. Although now I need more volume and punch. Both me and the venues demand it. I’m a performer (singer&looper) at different kind of events. I do need loud volume and firm bass but in a portable design. For example, I just did 6shows in 5 days. I need a quick in and out of venues. Tried the Pro32 sub1, it was good but I’m not sure it’s the best for me. Love the 180 spread and portable design, don’t like the build and the price. Any input on this…? Came to this video because I’ve started to research the Maui 28 G3
Was the microphone in the middle or was the mic aligned direct in line to the speaker, because some mics like condenser mics have a different Pattern and can sound different in an off axis position.
My GF and I are singers that do oldies, Doo Wop, Sinatra, American songbook Carpenters. Basically 50’s through the 80’s type shows with Dance music mixed in depending on the audience just got 2 of the 28 G3’s. They are fantastic for vocals because the mids just cut through so clean. And when I do the dance music I can crank the bass and they deliver. My favorite speakers of all The ones I’ve owned🎉
You also have to plan for coverage because the Bose does a wide coverage, consistent volume level, not grateful projection where the others will project further
especially through the mic, the RCF system sounded much warmer and more liquid from the midbass up and less boxy sounding than the LD arrays which probably project much harder in the mids and highs. the RCFs might sound brighter lowered to put the tweeter closer to on axis with the mic, but the warmer treble almost sounds silkier as/is. I'd get pair or two of 4x12 sealed subs instead of an 18" and RCFs based on what I'm hearing through the mic through those... very easy on the ears sound and less shouty than the smaller arrays. It would have been nice to hear JBL, Yamaha and others, but liking the nice laid back new to me RCFs
Nice Speakers War, Maybe you should thinking about to purchase a couple of RCF SUB 8008-AS to pair it with the RCF column that you have, will be great for big Parties.
Would live to see speaker war with jbl srx815p/vrx932lap versus RCF 945/NX945/HDM45 or even TT25mk2 and of those are really good i have 8 945s. And BASSBOSS dv12 in lineup. Really like the review. This series are really interesting to your folowers including me. Keep up the great work!
Hi Rick, First let me thank you for all that you have done and what you continue to do for mobile DJ's. I am super old school (started in 1979) You have definitely taught me some things to help me into the Twenty First century ! Regarding this video, I may get a lot of hate over this, but I spent a month shopping for a pair of column array speakers to supplement my EV ELX-15P speakers. I watched a lot of videos asked for advice on FB and took in a lot of data. I just want to ask why you didn't mention the Harbinger MLS-1000's. They are at least half the price of any of the speakers you tested. It came down to budget for me so I got them 3 months ago. I have used them at a number of gigs and they are amazing and a customer even commented on how good the sound was. I just wanted your opinion in case I am missing something here. Thanks!
Well yes if your replacong just a pair of zlx speakers that might be viable. There option are replacing sub and top combinations in the higher end categories like ev ekx line.
Awesome Rick! I have a lot of the same speakers. I also use the 44G2’s for 80/90% of my gigs, I have the Evox 8 for smaller and DB Tech IG4T (very similar to Rcf NXL24)over Icoa 18’s. The Icoa 18 subs sound awesome, but then run out of gas and like you said the tops keep going.
The look on their faces says what their bias voting wont.... The Pro 16 is better than the Maui 28's!!! 3 LD products and LD wins? tell me which brand youre pushing without telling me🤣wheres the L32's
LMAO my sentiments exactly on the Evolve 50s. Great speaker shoot out. I am considering the Evox 12 for a little more push, but more portability over the LD 44s. There is a 20lb difference on the 2 subs 44s vs Evox 12. Absolutely agree on the 28s, I have a set and they can handle 100 people weddings easily.
I bought a set of the Icoa 18a and I took them right back. They need a super hot signal just so they can sound right. I picked up some QSC KS118 subs and they of course blow the Icoa out of the water
How about easy set up time, and ascetic look. In white the 44g2 is the top choice. Look at the whole picture, but how many people do you think the 44g2 is rated for? Great Job, I own DB Technologies IG3T. Look into what they can do. They are stackable columns, and have a directional sound steering on the driver's in a stacked mode.
Maybe a stupid question, but are the top columns from the 44G2 identical to the 28G3? I have the the 44s but in the ideal world would love to just get 28 subs to allow interchangeable situations when I don’t need the much heavier bigger subs
In this test it looks like you guys were secretly most impressed with the Bose. It's the most practical in terms of weight, sound, capabilities and price. Great review. 😎
I have a couple of the l1 pro 16s and every time I bring them out I get SO MANY compliments and questions from people who love the sound. They’ve truly exceeded my expectations.
@@Ronniezim those are the best columns in my opinion. I've heard a bunch of columns that can get "louder" but they're not balanced. What I mean by that is the Bose is the only column that I've heard where the subwoofer matches the columns output.
@@DJRickWeb I agree with what you’re saying…I’m using these with treble at unity and the bass turned down two or three “notches”. I use with the tonematch off. It’s even more bass heavy if you set the tonematch to “DJ/Playback”
Most column systems need a low cabinet that will go up a bit higher than a typical sub. I've been pairing 16-driver tops (3" or 4") with dual-12" or dual-15" low cabinets that reach up to 200Hz, which takes some of the low pressure off the column. Takes some management around 250Hz but gets a lot of compliments for size and punch.
I'd love to see a battery-powered roundup as mentioned at the end of the video. The Soundboks Gen 3 has really impressed me for the price, with the only real letdown being that you can only run it off wall power at a maximum of 50% volume (above that and it cuts out because the wall adapter is only meant to charge the battery, not power the speaker).
The acoustics of your warehouse affect the spl meter. Especially since most of these throw sound pretty wide. The spl test would’ve been good outdoors.
I’ve tried the evolve 50, Bose, pro 16 and the RCF J8 Returned everything or sold them and went to my Bose pro L 32 with a sub to truly amazing! I’ve been opposed user for over nine years and now I’ve upgraded to the new pro 32. Best decision! The worst speaker for me was the evolve 50! RCF was OK. Just more involved with step and takedown.
Hi Rick, as we know you are not fan of column array. but I would like your opinion here and maybe you could do a video. What would you recommend between: point source (for example) 2x RCF ART 712 + 1x RCF 705 sub VS. 2x MAUI 28 G3 ? Do Maui 28 G3 are good enough for 250 people outdoor Salsa, Bachata, UrbanKiz, Reaggeton events?
I own The L1 16 for the money it holds its own against the 44's for the money. In person it is just...dominant. There is just no way else to describe it. Why no Ev 50's or JBL's ?
Bose has its own sound. If you are used to loudspeakers with horns it is certain that you will find that it lacks high but it is much less offensive.. once you get used to it you will not go back to horns. but hey.. it is light but fragile.. For DJ, I am flat, no EQ, use an XRL TO TRS cable in channel 3 is the best solution if you use an external mixer or DJ console. IF you are a singer, install the Bose application and do some testing with the Tonematch
Wait which one was battery only? I own the LD Maui 5 GO a white pair, use them for ceremony, cocktail hour and small events, never over guest of 100 or more because Duh they're only 8 inch subs. I think that's a huge factor, battery, clearest in my opinion of them all, and option of battery and come in white-cant beat that! Im a hug fan of LD and RCF, used them both on gigs I did last year for another DJ company and do have to say the RCFs and LD 44 are beast-but as mentioned it all comes to application. Overall, great video and very informative. Thank you,
yeah that's what I'm saying, its a small speaker, the features of an 8 inch sub against what your putting it up common man. seriously I think it was the best. for the buck hands down best smaller speaker set up
Thanks for the great video! I've heard all of these systems live and the RCF definitely takes top spot, but for the money, the LD's are hard to beat. All of the Bose I've heard in the last 3 years sound mehh, and this is no different. A lack of refinement to the sound, and I like the "walk in front of the speaker test."
The entire identical product series from 2023 and 2024 and also their variants with battery are affected by a faulty circuit design on the XLR-Lineout: JB Systems PPC-081 McGrey E-208LA Fun Generation ColumnMix Proel SESSION1 All columns were tested both with an XLR cable and with an XLR to jack adapter and also via DI box with different attenuations. Other pin assignments on the XLR were also tested alternatively, in case it is just an incorrect pin assignment on the XLR lineout. The result was always the same: much too much noise plus whining even with the controls on the hall mixer slightly turned up and also on other mixers and other line-in receivers. In the meantime, the Fun Generation ColumnMix from Thoman has also arrived, which is identical to the JB Systems PPC-081 and the McGrey E-208LA from Kirstein. As expected, the lineout is also noisy here. So I have now tested a total of 4 identical columns from this series, both from 2023 and 2024. And they all have the same error. The noise and whining is identical and equally strong on all columns. The whining may be slightly different in frequency from column to column. When I switch the column off, the noise and whining also subsides after 2-3 seconds, i.e. as soon as there is no more voltage in the column. However, very few customers will notice it because they may not have used the XLR lineout before. Incidentally, the XLR lineout signals from other columns, such as the LD Systems columns, are flawless.
My question is where do you come up with the money for these speakers. I can barely afford EV ZLXs. Im not questioning the cost of the speaker but I'm surprised people can stay afloat spending so much money on 1 speaker.
Hi, I've watched quite a few of your videos. We are looking for a versatile sound system for a range of activities. Mainly MCing at events and functions outdoors for groups between 100-300 people. We want to spend under ~$2500. I was wondering if you would recommend buying 3x maui 5's to link together for the larger events that way we have the ability to place them around the event for more coverage over 1 LD Systems Maui 44. Cheers,
Already commented under Daryl's video but... going to do that here as well. Column speakers are fashion product! I used to own RCF Evox J8 and HK Polar 12 and I have also done gigs with some other models. They are fine for a room that's maximum 100 sqm. Over that, columns are just not a way to go! Why?! Because most of them become rather noisy and sound muddy when the volume goes up. The second issue is that columns do not provide enough pressure for larger rooms and events with 100 or more people. They are almost never good for any outdoor event and almost no band wants to use them. Also, for MC-s they are a nightmare: the coverage is super wide, they almost never can provide decent strong and clear sound when the mic is used in a very crowded event. When I had columns, I had to consider hardly before every event if they are sufficient or not. And most of the time - they weren't! I was constantly pushing them to the limits and then the sound got horrible and distorting. What is the point in having them?! Columns are perfect if you can use them for background music and at a maximum 60% level of their capacity. Forget about aesthetics. Speakers are speakers and people are used to them. If you want to make your setup look nice, take a look at the entire thing: the room, the dj booth, stands, cables, lighting control etc etc. Fundamentally, you can never go wrong with a classic 10 or 12 inch top combined with 15" or 18" subs! Just get a decent set of these and you are good to go any time, anywhere for years to come. Plus - point source systems with different elements can be combined according to the needs and specific to the event: subs needed or not, maybe just 1 sub sometimes? Or if you own many of them, you can use them as side fills etc etc. Or if you are going to an event with an existing PA, you can just grab one top for your monitor. I will never waste my money on fashion products again. Going only forward with classic top + sub setup and never going to consider any column stuff again. Maybe the exception here is RCF NXL series, as they have already 6" woofers and these can push out some pressure on mid frequencies, have to try. At least what I could hear from this video, RCF NXL had wayyy better sound, I could easily make a difference between this and others when listening to claps, vocals and other mid level sounds. The problem with the demo here is that ICOA is not a best sub with NXL series, as its just not powerful enough. So if you want to just linearly crank it up, it might become an issue and sub can suffer some over heating other issues..
@djbentertainment9176 I have heard them side by side enough times to tell you the difference isn't much. For a wedding the evolve 50s are more than enough. It must be my market, but none of my clients want heavy excessive base
@@nodaysoff2005 I've seen a lot of people out here in California use the Evolve 50s along with a subwoofer. The good thing about the Bose is that they have excessive bass if need be but you definitely don't need to lug an extra sub. For almost the same price the Bose is a much better deal and sounds way better. Bose covers more of the frequency range. Just recently I heard a band performing through to pro 16 and the bass guitarist what's connected to the mixer and out through the pros. Do you think the evolve 50s can handle a bass guitar in a live situation? Like Rick said they are good side fill speakers but that's about it. If EV had been thinking they would have made the Evolve 30s with a 12 and the evolve 50s with a 15 or 18. Instead the Evolve 50s sound bad and the evolve 30s sound worse. This is the same thing that I think about the JBL PRX column array. Column arrays should not use 12 inch subwoofers in my opinion. If that were the case you would see a lot of people just buying 12-inch subwoofers with tops. People didn't become interested in 12-in subwoofers until column arrays and some of those people have already regretted it. I can tell because a lot of column users are bringing extra subwoofers. In all honesty though, the columns are a waste of money. For the price you would pay for a column system you can get a lot more sound with a traditional setup. 😎
Love the channel. Long time subscriber. Appreciate the work that went into creating this (and every) video. Full stop. However, I feel like this was an exercise in the obvious. It really wasn't a speaker WAR. Every single result you shared would be expected, simply on the size and cost of the speakers from lowest to highest. This was more an exercise in which speaker can I use for which situation (Crowd size, room size, application, etc.). Just my 2 cents though!
Another test should be how sturdy the columns are when mounted in the sub. If someone was to grab on to the columns, bump into or learn against them. Too many times someone has back up into my speakers while dancing. Or some drunk girl trying to use them to pole dance
Pair of either Maui 28 g2 vs bose l1 pro 8 got a opportunity to buy either in good condition used ,. Would be used for events of around 120 , as a setup that could fit in a car ?
I bought the L8's first and brought them back. Probably great for house parties but the bass is night and day from the 16. 2 16's are pressure trust me
@davydepraetere1984 absolutely for the sound quality alone. Now can they take the abuse of EV50's idk. I bought a pair of titan arrays from Rockville with 2 10'S per sub and was really impressed with the volume....not the greatest quality but definitely usable for 90% of what I do.
Still using my old L1 model 2 and B2 bass but i add an F1-sub to get that complete bass missing from the B2 alone..not buying sooner cause you need to calculate your ROI to make profit..not like impulse buying when your still paying for your old stuff😂

Thanks for the test. The Bose bass is crazy. They all have pros and cons. But all sound good 👍

Very good idea! Portability and weight can be a factor
I feel like the bag/accessories category touched on this, but you definitely could go more in depth with it
28 G3 wins for me, not too heavy, but heavy enough to kick.
@@DayNNyteDJs Do you think 2 would handle weddings up to 200 ppl and a gymnasium prom?
Bose blows them all out of the water when it comes to portability....except the 5 go
The crazy part is i have seen the evolve 50, Maui 24, Bose 16 and JBL in action. Not much of a difference except the power output. The evolves sound just as good as any of the other speakers of you use them in the right application which is under 150 people.
Intro (00:00:00)
Comparing column array systems: LDS, Bose, and RCF.
Categories and scoring system will be explained.
Time-lapse of setting up the speakers.
Speaker Comparison (00:00:55)
Lineup of speakers:
LD Systems Maui 5 Go (battery-powered column array)
Bose L1 Pro 16
LD Systems Maui 28 G3S
LD Systems Maui 44 G2S
RCF NLX 24S paired with LD Systems ICOA 18S (absurdity)
Missing speakers:
EV Evolve 50S (personally hated, destroyed by Bose and Maui 28S)
RCF EVOX 12S (comparable to Maui 44 G2S, but Maui 44 G2S considered better)
RCF EVOX 8S (Maui 28 G3S considered better)
LD Systems has the best two column arrays on the market.
Audio Technica microphone used for recording.
Warehouse garage door will be opened to reduce echo.
Accessories (00:03:15)
LD Maui 5 Go:
Bag for columns and subwoofer.
Well-padded.
Bose L1 Pro16:
Long bag with smaller compartment.
Decent padding.
Space for cables inside the bag.
RCF 44s and G3s/28s:
Separate bags for arrays and bottoms.
Good padding for arrays.
Caster plate on 44s clamps on, while on 28s it just sits on the plate.
RCF NXL 24s:
Full-length speaker cover.
Padded cover for the sub.
Casters are bolted onto the back of the sub.
The speaker set-up process will be shown next.
Speakers (00:05:04)
The Maui 5 Go has an 8-inch subwoofer, is battery-powered, and has three sections: a battery, a spacer, and a section for high and mid-range speakers.
Pink Noise (00:08:21)
Maui 5 reached 100.7 dB at the limit.
Bose L1 Pro 16 reached 111 dB.
Maui 28 reached 111 dB.
Maui 44 reached 114.6 dB.
Nlx 24 reached 116 dB when raised higher.
Every 3 dB increase is significant to the human ear.
House EDM (00:10:50)
All speakers were set to 100 dB for a fair comparison.
No EQ was applied to any of the speakers.
A house EDM track with a drop was played.
A hip-hop song with vocals was played.
The Maui 28 had more bass.
The RCF and LD sub had a deeper and richer bass.
In Reverse (00:13:47)
The reviewer compares the clarity of the LD Systems and RCF speakers.
Price (00:18:40)
LD Maui 5 Go: $1,000
Bose L1 Pro 16: $1,199 (without bags)
LD Systems Maui 28: $1,600
LD Systems Maui 44 G2s: $2,900
RCF nlx 24s with ioa 18 Subs: $3,500 (subwoofer: $1,000)

LD Systems Maui 44 G2s: identical build quality to Maui 28
RCF nlx 24s: subpole mount, no real connections on column arrays
Music Testing (00:21:16)
Tested speakers at full volume with various music genres
Songs played: "Beat It Off", "City Girls", "Knock It Down", "Freaky Deaky", "Touch Her Toes", "Summertime"
Noted clarity, bass, impact, sheer loudness, and build quality during testing
Final Scores (00:24:41)
The RCF speakers outperformed the Bose and Five Go speakers in all categories, including clarity, bass, impact, loudness, and build quality.
I would love to hear the Bose L1 Pro 32 with the Sub 2 vs the Maui 44 G2. Can you make it happen Rick? 🙏🏼
considering the price point difference between the RCF and the Bose, I think the Pro 32/S2 would have been a more balanced comparison...
For the money the maui 28 is cheaper and overall a better speaker sound quality and build quality
@@DJRickWeb 100%
I can tell you're either young or stay in the gym😂
i think you should do side by side of 44 and the rcf evox 12, seems like a hot topic. good work by the way.
That's a realistic pairing I feel.
44 beats the evox 12’s. I just listened to them both in a showroom and bought the 44’s
Ready for the prices of these to come down a lil
Just got the 44’s , they are GREAT
Hey Rick. There is no NLX 24. you have the NXL 24. Are you planing to get RCF Subwoofers for the Tops? Would recommend the 8004. They play very well with the NXL24.
Yeah its in the budget plan for later this year maybe next year. Had to put more money into projectors screens and video wall first
You can feel the 44G2s through the speakers goodness
do you recommend the icoa 18" subwoofer?
It seems to be a good one just based on some internet hear-say
Yes we bought 4 now. They are solid
@ impressive!
- thanks for the reply and may 2025 bring you success
Facts.
😬😬😬 surprised that the clarity of the Bose did its thing!!!! And of course the last set is no fare but sounds great too!
Everyone seems to forget about the Bose F1 array system. By far my favorite!
For the size, the Bose delivers hard and deep. The RCF combo obviously goes very deep, the 44s almost match the RCF's, but don't go as low.
All inline. The mic is omni directional.
I would like to see a compare between rcf evox j8 and hk audio polar 12
Exactly what I needed, thanks! This really helped narrow the market down for me. :)
My favorite speakers of all
The ones I’ve owned🎉
Thay are amazing. I want to pick up 4 more.
Would the Bose Pro16 be better or at least the same in mids? I also sing oldies, crooners ...
Nice video..
Do ld 44
Evox 12
Ev 50
That wouldn’t be an equal comparison. The better comparison, with all 12 inch subs, would be
LD 28G3
RCF Evox 8
EV Evolve 50
You also have to plan for coverage because the Bose does a wide coverage, consistent volume level, not grateful projection where the others will project further
The projection of the Maui 28 is better than the Bose Pro 16??
Great job on the video. Well done. A wealth of knowledge for sure.
missing the most widely used wedding dj system out there right now, the RCF EvoX 12
especially through the mic, the RCF system sounded much warmer and more liquid from the midbass up and less boxy sounding than the LD arrays which probably project much harder in the mids and highs. the RCFs might sound brighter lowered to put the tweeter closer to on axis with the mic, but the warmer treble almost sounds silkier as/is.
Yeah its a budgeting thing at the moment
Bose for the size it’s a good one I use two of them the 8️⃣ it’s and the only problem is it doesn’t have a long throw
44g2 speakers are over priced I can get a ev speakers and subs under 2k and they are pretty good
Bose L1 Pro 16 surprised me. I like that it's compact with a punch.
The look on their faces says what their bias voting wont.... The Pro 16 is better than the Maui 28's!!!
3 LD products and LD wins? tell me which brand youre pushing without telling me🤣wheres the L32's
@@Freegameisthenamehey I have nothing to say about that. I will stay neutral. 😎😎
The Icoa subs are not very good for the price, the LD Stinger 18ag3 is much better.
They top out at around 200 people. Of course depending on room size
I love mine two L16 pro
Maybe a stupid question, but are the top columns from the 44G2 identical to the 28G3? I have the the 44s but in the ideal world would love to just get 28 subs to allow interchangeable situations when I don’t need the much heavier bigger subs
They are different. Very slightly
Which one would you choose, RCF EVOX J8, YAMAHA DXL1K, MAUI 11 G3 OR HK POLAR 12 ? Thank you in advance.
very good speaker test!
More impressed on the bass. The high / mids sucked
We all would actually say the opposite. The highs and mids cant keep up with the sub
@@DJRickWeb I agree with what you’re saying…I’m using these with treble at unity and the bass turned down two or three “notches”. I use with the tonematch off. It’s even more bass heavy if you set the tonematch to “DJ/Playback”
Any thoughts on the JBL PRX ones? Been debating on selling mine for the Maui 28s
Are the 44s still shutting down?
love the video but no EV or JBL?
I'd love to see a battery-powered roundup as mentioned at the end of the video. The Soundboks Gen 3 has really impressed me for the price, with the only real letdown being that you can only run it off wall power at a maximum of 50% volume (above that and it cuts out because the wall adapter is only meant to charge the battery, not power the speaker).
if you had to pair the NXL24-A MK2s with a different sub would you go with RCF SUB 8004-AS or Bassboss SSP118 MK2s?
What‘s the name of that skrillex remix? 😍
You didn’t review the BOSE L1 32 with the sub 2 or Sub1
What single 18 would keep up with the 24mk2’s? Or single 21?
The acoustics of your warehouse affect the spl meter. Especially since most of these throw sound pretty wide. The spl test would’ve been good outdoors.
Good point. Hearing them side by side is the better testing
This is exactly what I'm looking for. I wish I could've been there live
Great information. Do you have any recommendations for less expensive column array speakers?
I’ve tried the evolve 50, Bose, pro 16 and the
RCF J8
Returned everything or sold them and went to my Bose pro L 32 with a sub to truly amazing!
Rick, can you compare the ld icoa 18 to the qsc sub?
Will work on a sub comparison video
I just purchased 2 Bose L1 Pro 16 what is the best eq settings and do I need to buy tone match for better sound
IF you are a singer, install the Bose application and do some testing with the Tonematch
out of the box? I use a Flow8 gives tons of head room
Thank you,
Maui 5 go was the only battery one
yeah that's what I'm saying, its a small speaker, the features of an 8 inch sub against what your putting it up common man. seriously I think it was the best. for the buck hands down best smaller speaker set up
So you mind explaining why you dislike the EV Evolve 50?
Wow the maui 44 G2 system blew me away. Hmmmmm.
Same. I was kinda surprised
Where is the point-source, sub and line array wars videos?!?
Next up? We shall see
Ricky has some Bose hate
Not fair comparison simply because the real competitor L1 pro 32 sub 2 bass model is the deal…‼️😂😂😂💪
yes need pro32
Can you toss the Yorkville EXM Mobile Tower into the ring. They’re loud, clean and long lasting battery. Would like to hear how they compare
Do the RCF NXL24 have a crossover in the DSP? Thinking of pairing with a QSC KW 181 until I can afford some new subs.
Yes they have a high pass mode.
These are the mk2
I have the kw181s too, thinking of going with nxl24, ig4t or ig3t
What about the PEAVEY ln1263? It looks good spec wise but i dont see many reviews. Also like the JBL prx one
I'd like to suggest the LD systems curv 500 TS.
I hope you can test db technology es1203
How do i find the 2end song you played that was 🔥
They all are good in their own ways, but I could never ever use them in mid size events. I like them for like BBQ or family gatherings.
agreed. 100, to 150 MAX . Reallistically 60-80 comfortably.
Agree
Great video but what was that oh my God track. That’s fire!
Yeah baby thats Skrillex nice sprites and scary monsters. Sick track
I would actually like to see the evolve series out there up against these. Just out of curiosity.
Unless you are getting the 15 inch sub version, I will tell you that the evolve 50s are the same as all of the other 12 inch sub system's.
If the BOSE 16 sounds that good i wonder how the 32 sounds 🤗 twice as good ? The LD 28 lacks low end
I mean you can hear it on the video and everyone knows youtube videos dont replicate sound accurately! Pro16 is a beast the 32????
@@Freegameisthename the bose L32 pro . The bigger brother of the BOSE L16 pro .
Why don’t you like the ev 50?
The array is way to low. People block the sound. The sub is under powered
Why not set the db meter at (as close to) ear level (as possible)? Isn't that the most realistic listening scenario?
Learning lessons. At ear height we couldnt see the screen lol
Love to see you review an LD Systems MAUI P900
The entire identical product series from 2023 and 2024 and also their variants with battery are affected by a faulty circuit design on the XLR-Lineout:
JB Systems PPC-081
McGrey E-208LA
Fun Generation ColumnMix
Proel SESSION1
All columns were tested both with an XLR cable and with an XLR to jack adapter and also via DI box with different attenuations.
RCF J8 with LD Systems Maui 28
Bose !!; miażdżycy bas swlektywny i czysty dzwiek ładny srodek czego chciec więcej
My question is where do you come up with the money for these speakers. I can barely afford EV ZLXs.
Im not questioning the cost of the speaker but I'm surprised people can stay afloat spending so much money on 1 speaker.
Amazing tests of these kits. Any chance of adding in the DB ES1203 for a review?. I feel it has a top class sound and output.
Do you have the es1203? I am considering buying them - have been thinking about them for a few years
Hi, I've watched quite a few of your videos. Cheers,
Personally I would get mackie thump go speakers or mackie thrash go 12s and use there bluetooth linking feature. Better bang for buck.
What you think of evox 12 is it better than g 44
Basically it's same same. I think the 44 has it beat in bass output and can push a tad bit louder
Just bought the 44s 2 weeks ago
how is it?
@lucas_fpro absolutely perfect for my mobile gigs
Sorry, gotta disagree on your assessment of the EV Evolve 50’s?! To me, hands down the best column arrays period,IMHO
As a side fill speaker sure. They are not main speakers
The Bose Pro16 slaughters the Evolve 50's. I know a few DJ's who got rid of their Evolve 50s cause they lack bass.
The war was in the first test going over clarity and bass of each speaker at the same output level.
Probably great for house parties but the bass is night and day from the 16. 2 16's are pressure trust me
@@Freegameisthename You recommend 2x Bose 16's?
@davydepraetere1984 absolutely for the sound quality alone. Now can they take the abuse of EV50's idk. I bought a pair of titan arrays from Rockville with 2 10'S per sub and was really impressed with the volume....not the greatest quality but definitely usable for 90% of what I do.
Well done!
Still using my old L1 model 2 and B2 bass but i add an F1-sub to get that complete bass missing from the B2 alone..not buying sooner cause you need to calculate your ROI to make profit..not like impulse buying when your still paying for your old stuff😂
