Interesting commentary. I think it's good to try to get girls/doll ppl messages about animals; but I can also see why they think the animals hobby is overdone. I think it's also a little lazy on production's part, obviously a small animal toy is easy to write about and produce. They could get a little more creative.
The target demographic was not alive when some of these original versions of repeated products were made and then retired. So, finding complete and affordable sets is really hard to do. But dog plot lines are definitely overdone in this line. The last five GOTY have had dogs, which is too much.
