Great job, my m4400 fan just failed today, its been running on 24/7 for about 8 years, going to order the part Y175G to replace it, your video helped alot in terms of how to remove/put back the cooling assembly, thanks!
Fantastic video. Just picked one up a few days ago for less than 4 dollars, and got a QX9300 for less than half of that. They're dirt cheep now. There's a charm owning these beast-like computers from years ago, even though watching a RUclips video requires the fan to work real hard, even with newly applied thermal paste.
@@WasmachinemanUnbelievable, isn't it. Unfortunately, that's the only one I've even came across personally. I found both the Precision and that QX9300 at the same recycling center. That QX was in a bin of processor, and the auntie there was like " it's just another chip" and asked NT$70(a little more than US$2) for it.
Great job! Question is the amount of the thermal paste on your CPU originally from the DELL factory? (Just worried about my M6700 might have the same mess..) Is it recommended to overdo with the paste in the laptops?
I absolutely do recommend repasting your laptop. However, do not apply too much thermal paste. Too much thermal paste will make your CPU or GPU run hotter. In general it is recommended to use about a rice grain worth of thermal paste. Hope it helps!
my experience: the new paste should be spread so thin you can almost see through it. this produced a great low temperature, so i do not like any thickness in the layer of the paste!
Great video! I own an M4400 Precision laptop and I wanted to ask you a few questions hoping you could be of any help. 1. Mine has a P8700 CPU and I want to upgrade it to a more than two cores one, which is the best option in this case? 2. Upgrading requires any change in cooling system? 3. A Wifi antenna upgrade option? 4. Which alcohol are you using to clean up pasta (type not brand). Thank you in advance.
Really nice & clear tutorial, and helpful for working on many laptop models. Really shows the importance of repasting, with those temps at the end! But I was wondering, what is the fastest CPU & GPU that it could run without thermal problems? (sorry for late comment)
Thanks for your comment! The fastest supported CPU would be the Core 2 Quad QX9300 for this machine. For GPUs the configuration with the Quadro FX1700M would be a little bit faster than the FX 770M.
Wow, thx for replying! :) I'm trying to find out if there's a laptop with mechanical keyboard, 16:10 screen and pointer stick that I could play older/less demanding games on, and all I've found are this, the Thinkpad T410, Dell E6500 or E6400. I'd love to get your opinion of which ones would& be better for gaming, and if any can upgrade to quad core?
Excellent job on the repaste. I should do the same to my M4400 as it runs warm. Question: Do you know if the Precision M4400 can accept more than 4 gig of RAM? Cheers - Mike
Hi Mike, thanks for your comment. I do believe it will accept 8GB of RAM, but I would only do that if you already have two sticks of 4GB DDR2 around. The prices of 4GB DDR2 sticks are simply too high as they are hard to come by, so I wouldn't recommend buying them for a machine this old.
Thanks! great video - I'm going to upgrade mine ASAP! Any recommendations on RAM? I want to upgrade from my present 2G to 4 or 8, if possible (and add a webcam)- cost is a consideration - any suggestions are appreciated!
Hi, if I were you, I'd upgrade to 4GB (2x2GB). This is because 4GB DDR2 sticks are very expensive and hard to find second hand. However, if you can get hold them cheaply, I'd totally go for 6 or 8GB.
Nice instructive video. I just got a Dell M4400 with a T9600 CPU and a Nvidia Quadro FX1700 graphics card. TheIt is running somewhat hot when idling, and could probably do with a repaste.
I know, old reply, but the precision series tends to like to run at 90ish degrees centigrade. A repaste with some newer, better paste would definitely help take some load off the fans though.
I have a M4600 with Quadro 1000m GPU. I was told that it can be upgraded to the newer Quadro K2000M GPU. I found a few for sell on Ebay, but was wondering if the K2000M is supported by the rather old processor (sandy bridge generation); or whether the physical size of the cards are the same? Please advise if the upgrade is possible. Thanks
liquid metal but you really don't want that in a laptop because it can spill everywhere as it is not solid like paste I recommend thermal grizzly or noctua N1-H2 thermal paste
Tyson Jacobs The thermal paste is spreaded when pressure is applied by the heat sink when the screws are being tightened. If you spread the paste by yourself (by using a credit card for instance) if will create a lot of small air pockets within the layer of paste. Since air doesn't conduct heat well, it will decrease the cooling performance.
Excelente video.
Congratulaciones.
Muy profesional si trabajo.

holy shit a QX9300 for less than $4? Link please, i'll take your entire stock for that money!

nice vid! i'm glad the m4400 is fairly easy to reach the CPU, today's laptops are fkd up in that way, lol

Hi. Thank you, your videos are excellent. one question, the M4400 supports a core i5
not. Him maximum Core 2 duo t9900
Does this mean that the Core i7 processor can be placed in the place of the processor of the device ddell prrecision m4400Please help and reply ?
No, the M4400 can not accept a Core i7 CPU.
@@FullyBuffered what about i5

@@FullyBuffered What is the most powerful processor that can be placed in this device?

There above the blue battery (i assume) is a loose power connector, like a fan connector. Any idea what is the purpose of it, why is it loose?

hey bro is it the same on precision m6700
