Thanks for making this. I have the same bike and am looking at setting it up as an ebike.
Watched the vid to the end and I learned a little so thanks for doing it.
Glad I could help!
I also like the BB7 brakes. I can lock them up with one finger, not because I am Popeye, but because I (1) semi-regularly take them apart, and clean out sand and salt and dry lube them a bit, (2) use the JagWire segmented housing, and (3) use JagWire polished, mandrel-drawn brake cable. It is soooo much smoother than any cable that is not mandrel-drawn.
I’ll have to look into that! After 3 years of heavy use, I’m realizing I need fresh cables and housing for sure. I do love the sram sintered pads tho
Good info. The HD/e complete e-bike does come with the shift sensor. It's mounted below the top tube.
Yeah, I listened to the whole video 😂, big Jones fan here 😁.
I've got a Jones lwb hd/e frameset on order but in the meantime I installed the bafang bbshd on my Salsa Fargo. I opted for the Box 2 Prime 9 groupset and have had a lot of trouble getting it dialed in. My chainline seems fine but its a 73mm bottom bracket. I'm hoping it will work better on the Jones frame with the 68mm bottom bracket and better chainline. I can't wait because I'm really enjoying the ebike.
I hope the Box works out but I'm a bit doubtful after having so much trouble adjusting it on the Salsa.
That's interesting, Jones spec's his new bikes with the Box drivetrain. The SRAM set up has been working really reliably, but you will be shifting a ton. I'm curious how a grip shifter would do, I love it on my analog Jones.
@mathias5171 I got rid of the box groupset. I'll never buy Box again. The Shimano Cues works great.
2.8 vs 3.25... Chain rub is an issue with the duro crux 29x3.25 with a 3mm inside offset, 11sd cassette, hde sans the e. Currently considering thinner tire options.
I feel like, unless your are in the lowest gear climbing a ton, chain rub really isn't and issue. It's non-existent on the HD/e.
Mentioned getting tires when available, how long do they last and what pressure do you run ?
Thanks
4 point socket is definitely the way to go if installing a bbs- motor. 👍
the speedsters tend to last a pretty good amount of time, several months depending on your riding variables. Getting the heavy duty socket is the way to go when installing, for sure. Hasn't budged since install; thousands of miles!
Maybe I missed it, but what size battery?
52v. I forgot the amp hour. It’s the Luna dire wolf battery. They don’t make them anymore unfortunately. It weighs 14.5 lbs is the only drawback.
What kind of double kickstand is that?
It's the Jonesbike double leg that they sell on their website.
would have a surly be your 2nd choice in this catergory??
Surly's are okay for regular riding, but i bought a second LWB to ride analog because it rides so much better! In fact, I had the ebike setup on an Ogre, but the frame broke. A lot of lighter riders use the Ogre though, it's the only Surly frame to my knowledge that allows install of the BBSHD motor.
biking to be simple and free. but now tech bikes,!!! the new world order!!

fix that crack with fiber glass cloth and resin!
