  • In this video I'm going to set up my iKamper SkyCamp Mini Awning in real time and explain how to set it up.
This is part of my overlanding / camping setup with my F-150. Check out my other videos to see the tent setup video as well as tour of everything I've managed to cram in the truck!

I started leaving the guy lines tied to the grommet holes. On take-down I tie the lines into small individual bundles to avoid tangles. There is enough room in the grommets for both the line and the tip of the pole. This saves some time tying knots and the cords are always right where needed.

Not a bad idea. With my luck I always figured they’d just get all tangled.

Awesome video - this was all I needed to realize how badly I do NOT need this accessory :) - what a pain in the ass.

Glad it helped with your decision! The usefulness really depends on how long you stay somewhere.

Thanks for the video! Except you just cost me another few hundred dollars cuz that looks like something I "need"! :)

The awning is one of my favorite parts of the setup. Having a dry/shady space right at the bottom of the stairs is pretty awesome.
Only downfall is the rain fly has to be on, so you can’t use the top window was a vent if you do that currently.

We were curious as to how the awning set-up worked on the iKamper. Thanks for the informative video!

Thanks! I do wish it connected to the tent instead of the rain fly. But the setup is pretty easy at least!

    Long

Yeah, it does take a while to set up in comparison to the tent.

I’m having real (first world) dilemma on RTTs, the iKamper mini ticks the box as I think (?) it’s likely to be one me and my partner can actually lift off out of season or if we need to use a roof box instead.
I like the simplicity of the RTT setup but as soon as you go beyond that, such as awnings, it then feels like a real faff if you wanted to travel somewhere for the day. So I continue to think about use cases, scenarios to weigh up RTT vs a quick setup ground tent. A nice problem to have I guess 🤣🤓🙏

I know the feeling. Having the RTT and especially the awning makes you think twice about packing it up to drive somewhere. It’s fast, but still kind of a pain.
I’ve started bringing a bike with me. As long as I don’t have to go buy stuff in town I can get around the park I’m in quickly at least.

@@vagabondexplorer do you think you could detached the awning and leave it there whilst your out for the day?

    • @vagabondexplorer
      @vagabondexplorer  Год назад +1

@@scmtbcoach2477 It would fall over since the awning uses the tent as an anchor point. But as long as you parked in almost the same place you should be able to reattach and adjust it without fully packing it away.

I got this with my ikamper but hadnt used it yet. Its way more faffy than i expected, so will probably let someone else have it. The fact youve done this before and it still took 15 minutes to do methodically its ludicrous

I use it when I won’t be moving for like a week or if it’s going to be raining. I really do love the covered space in the rain!
But it isn’t as fast setup as the tent itself and if you’re moving frequently would be a decent bit of added time.

i like watching the full real time setup. I also like the running board trick.

Thanks! Using the running board worked out better than expected, but I’ve also walked into that guy line a few times in the dark!
