Cab Calloway is a very important figure in Black History one of the very first well known black band leaders and performersof his era. I'll never forget his performances in Stormy Weather and the Blues Brothers movie, and how Janet Jackson paid homage to him in her video for "Alright". We must also pay Homage to his Sister Blanche Calloway who was also a great singer and often overlooked.

I agree as well, because they were so talented. And they enjoyed and appreciated each other so much!! I hope no one comes and blame MLK again, because he did what was needed for that time period. He didn’t cause redlining, and so many can now come to the US because of him, and other things he fought for. On the West Coast, they are finally returning some of our land, from a family who worked extremely hard on their ocean front property so African Americans could have a hotel to use around 1910, because they wouldn’t let us use their hotels.

Mr. Calloway is part of chain that extends from people like Fats Waller and Eubie Blake through to Little Richard, Marvin Gaye, James Brown, Michael Jackson and Fela Kuti. You can throw Miles Davis and Dizzy Gillespie in there and a bunch of other guys. They project a transcendence and an elusiveness to the handicaps of colonialism.

The man told me he saw Cab do a concert in Herrin, Illinois. The man was young when he saw Cab. That must had been iconic to see Cab. This was probably around the world war two era. When the man died he left a Cab Calloway album to me. I first heard of Cab on Sesame Street !! And then in the blues brothers movie. But now that we have internet /RUclips , I can see Cab alot.!!!!! Hello Mr. Brooks,
What an amazing video and such a wealth of information. I am a student at Morgan state majoring in journalism and find topics like this so amazing and interesting. I grew up in the uptown area right around the corner from your grandfathers home, and just found out a few years ago that is where Cab Callaway lives. I’m also very interested in what can be done to restore and rebuild my beloved community in the Upton area. I saw an article a few months back that a meeting had been scheduled last year to see what could be done to preserve your grandfather’s home. It sometimes saddens me when I ride through my old neighborhood and see how it has taken a horrible decline in the last 30 years. It’s such an vital community that’s rich with cultural history that not to many people in that neighborhood is even aware of. Sorry for the long essay, but this video and all the other videos I’ve watched on your Grandfather is so intriguing and interesting.

I don't even know how the YT algorithm pushed this video to me, but I'm glad it did. Growing up in a black household full of jazz enthusiasts, I've always known about Cab Calloway, but I never really knew anything about him personally. This gave me a little more insight. Naturally, after watching this, i searched for a more in-depth documentary on his career and life and was surprised and saddened to find none. Not on YT anyway. There's little clips of his performances, interviews, and movies, but nothing like a full on Biography channel documentary. I am truly in disbelief that there is such little in-depth information on an icon such as Mr. Calloway.
It's really shameful. What am i missing here?
Where's those Jewish producers, film, and documentary makers whose parents and grandparents loved him so much? I'm sure making a movie or documentary about his life is something that they can make some money off of.
