@@TheTableTennisServiceGuy well you seem to laugh a bit about it, but did you talk to Benne since then and did he say, your coaching caused his latest success?
Not a single hidden or otherwise illegal serve - so great to see :D This is what will ensure the integrity of the game and illiminate many discussions on service rules.
I don't like this argumentation. It's like saying some people not committing crimes prevents crimes. IMO rules must be constructed in a way that they can be controlled, and then they must be forced. Rules that can't be controlled and forced are useless and should be abolished.
@@NoSpeechForTheDumb I think my comment is based on the current state of the relationship between the service rules and the way umpires enforce them. Certainly, it would be optimal to introduce VAR technologies or extra umpires like line judges in tennis and badminton. But it doesn't seem to be possible in TT for purely financial reasons. I am going on a Level 1 Umpire course in two weeks to learn more, and I don't know what ITTF's attitude is towards this, but to me it certainly seems like the common umpire is neither strict nor consistent enough. And as long as the umpires 'allow' for illegal serves, players will continue using them. If, however, the service rules were enforced to a greater extent, players would obviously stop practicing illegal serves. I guess the reason the rules were changed years ago, was because the game became ruined by the serves (correct me if I'm wrong). Points ought to be won (in my opinion) by skill and tactical understanding during rallies, and not due to illegal serves. And that's why I wrote, that I believe that serving legally helps the integrity of the game. In a perfect world, sure, I could agree that no rules that cannot objectively be enforced should be applied. But we don't live in such a world, and in practice we have to do something - hence the rules we have now. What are the viable alternatives? Neither VAR nor extra umpires are going to be implemented in national and 'low level' international competitions. Maybe at selected finals. Should we then go back to the old rules? I think that would ruin the game.
@@NonfoX please explain: Why is table tennis the ONLY racket sport which is considered "ruined" (by its own practicioners!) just because the service got better over time? In badminton and especially tennis, people show a completely different mindset. In those sports, a strong service is admired. A direct point on the service is called an "ace" and people applaud it specifically. I NEVER EVER heard tennis players lamenting about how fast or short their rallies were. Only table tennis players do this, all the time. Why?
@@NoSpeechForTheDumb I never said anything about TT being the only racket sport which is considered ruined based on the services. And I only express my own personal view. I may not have been clear. I distinguish between legal and illegal services. Of course the TT services have changed significantly over time. And I think the services are what makes the sport so great. But the top players that do illegal serves, are doing it purposefully! They know exactly what they are doing - they are going to the edge and beyond. This kind of mentallity is what I dislike. And it is only possible - as I said before - becuase the rules are not enforced properly. I also admire a great, technical serve - but why make it illegal? Obviously to get an unfair advantage. And that's what all the fuzz is about. I have no respect for players abusing the serve in that way - which is why I applauded Duda in this video. I'm just an amateur player, but his serves seem really difficult, and everything is visible and according to the rules.
@@NonfoX the way you use the terms "legal" and "illegal" gives me the impression that you entirely missed my point. In my opinion the major issue with "modern" table tennis is that it is not possible anymore to determine if a service obeys the rules, because the lawmakers established rules which are impossible to judge. This defective state of the system won't change if people "behave well" out of their own moral code. It's rather the opposite: The more people act "good", the more the few "evildoers" benefit because they have less "evil" competition. I leave it to your imagination what would be the real way out of this situation.
Its crazy how fast Duda can implement your coaching into his serves. Top level player and top level coach. Edit: I think the serves worked quite well against Lin Gaoyuan. Congrats!

With Duda doing so well after your coaching, I wonder who your next high profile client will be? As an American and a fan of hers, I hope it’s Lily Zhang.
Duda is very capable player, he was close to winning EuroChampionship 2024. I think he should try other top rubbers. Alex has no problems with the quality of top spin shots generated by Duda.
My former coach used to play frequently against Duda when he was a second league player. My coach has really good services which worked really well against Duda until a certain point. At that point hesaif Duda still has no clou about the spin, but he just flips through it.
If you make a video like that, which i highly support anyways, both for me as a player and as a coach, try to make a good audio. I want to understand Bennes thought process aswell as your coaching. Thats pretty hard here, since i cant hear him talking at all Oh and btw: does anybody of you guys have a tipp on where to start practicing deception for my serves. I mostly dont do it. The only variant i know, is to make a fake move before contact of ball/ show a othet direction and then come back for the first thing. Works just with lower level players. For stuff like this here, im really thankful on tipps where to start. My goto serves are pendulum side- under/ backhand serve with variations/ fast long down the line and sometimes i mix in reverse pendulum with top- side to short forrhand. Any Tipps?
I fully agree. Still learning a developing my RUclips skills. I didn’t know how I was going to showcase this. I had it more in mind to do some voiceover stuff but it didn’t work out that way. I turned the volume up on his thoughts and comments but that was the best I could do. It was a bit of an after thought. With deception, I would start with a serve and spin that feels comfortable. Then try the opposite spin and by mindful of the finishing point of the original serve. Record it from the receivers point of view, then you can start to make specific changes from what you’re seeing.
@@TheTableTennisServiceGuy so my most confortable is standart backhand serve. I can freely vary spin and placement on that. Most commonly i do side- and backspin to the short forehand, so i get a receive onto my forehand side (strong side). Opposite would now be top- and sidespin? Then trying to make it look the same? Is that what you're saying? I think its hard, because i have to lift the should/ ellbow for topspin/ kick. I could try to lift it after the motion when doing underspin aswell. Maybe i'll try that some times. Then mixing up spins and make the aftermotion the same? I think thats your take on that according to the video, right?
Most of the time yes. However, with the backhand serve, it tends to be much easier to disguise the backspin as topspin. As the elbow needs to finish higher for topspin, it’s harder to conceal it.
Hey Craig, i love the serve game, but i did not get why you serve, what looks to me, like a random number of times each? Can you explain please? Thanks for great videos!!
It’s 5 serves each. We got it wrong sometimes (and I still didn’t win). Not so easy to keep track of everything at once. I would suggest have a match scoreboard to keep track of the points and then it’s much easier to count the 5 serves.
