    When you are older, you don’t lose your straight line speed and hops that much, because these are power based, and power is something that you can keep very well as long as you stay in shape.
    What you lose the most as you get older is your reflexes and your ability to change direction, and your ability to do anything that’s higher intensity than running straight and jumping every once in a while.

      Running and standing vertical jumps are way different physically. Standing vertical is cool, but is kinda useless for an NBA player unless you're a big man that needs that straight up jump to defend and block shots. Almost every single jump in the NBA (AND NFL) is running or with some drop-step start. My standing vertical was bad because I had a weak posterior chain (glutes and hams) because of APT (anterior pelvic tilt). I had a 24" standing vert and a 34" running vertical as a junior in high school. It doesn't take a big run-up for me, but there's a difference. I'm also a 1 foot jumper. My VMO on my left leg (teardrop muscle on the quad) is still bigger than my right leg because my left leg is more conditioned to explode. Everybody's different. Running-one-foot and running-two-foot verticals are by far the best ways to achieve the highest vertical jump. Generally, you should be able to achieve your best jump with a running two-foot jump. Look at the best NBA leapers. Standing vertical only looks at explosion from the glutes and hips from a standing position. You don't cheat by running lmao. Then that means both Olympic lifting lifts are cheating because they rely SOLEY on technique to lock weights out.

    As an athlete it always frustrates me how “vertical” is calculated. It’s not your jump it’s how much higher you reach than your standing reach. Just by lifting your hip and one side of your body / arm you can get 4-6 inches higher in reach let alone jumping on top of it.

    • @troliskimosko
      @troliskimosko 2 года назад

      Well it’s cheaper than using one of those force plates, and using the height of your head like some people suggest isn’t accurate either as you can throw your arms down to move your center of mass, makes your head go higher. Vertec is fine
