    +Christopher Anderson You should use thin yoyo lube on the Velocity. You can try other things besides yoyo finger wrap, but we have not found anything as effective.

    I can't believe how smooth this made my Sage yoyo. The past week or so, I really thought I was getting worse instead of better. Sometimes the yoyo just wouldn't come back, though I was landing my string tricks more than ever. I unconsciously started throwing the yoyo harder and faster to get it to come back.
    I thought it was my string. It's been two week since I got my Sage from yoyotricks and the string was no longer "fluffy". It was hard, getting "thin" and twisty (around 2/3 hrs a day practice). So a few days back I ordered new strings and the thick lube - though I have to admit I was skeptical about the lube helping. I wasn't really sure how it could help. I was sure the new strings would do it.
    I got both strings and thick lube today. First thing I did was change strings. Eagerly I tried it out, but no luck! The yoyo was as unresponsive (never really understood that word till today!) as ever. It would wind round and round the yoyo, but wouldn't come back up. I was really sad and depressed. Then I thought I might as well change the lube even though I didn't see how it would work.
    I followed the instructions in this video and gave the Sage a toss.
    Oh. My. God. First thing I notice is the almost complete silence while the yoyo spun. Before the lube, it used to "whir" and make a _huge_ racket. The first throw after lubing was so quiet! And then...a slight tug...and it came back to me! I was so shocked, I almost didn't catch it - it was awesome! The yoyo was never this good even when new.
    So it was the lube all along. I had to see it to believe it. Not the string, but the lube. I guess I don't really understand the mechanics of the yoyo fully, which is why I didn't believe the lube would help. I never previously understood words like "responsive" and "unresponsive", and now I know. There are no other words that can be used.
    For the past hour, I've been throwing breakaways, forward tosses, man on the flying trapeeze, and around the world as I went to have my daily afternoon coffee. I was actually singing away, still marveling at how the Sage kept returning to my hand almost immediately. Once again...wow!
    Few observations. Is it my imagination, but has the lube reduced spin times a bit? I'm not really sure. I feel it doesn't come back with the same _force_ as the unlubed yoyo...or is that a function of the string? Do older strings give higher spin times? Maybe I should put on the old string on the new lubed yoyo and do a comparison.
    Second, the new strings you sent over were much longer than the one I got pre-packaged with the Sage. I learnt later that the yoyo is supposed to touch the ground when it starts at your belly button. But I've gotten used to doing my tricks with a shorter string and I don't like the feel of the longer one. So I cut it to what I'm used to - the length of the string when I first got the yoyo. Is that ok?
    Finally, the new strings seem...I don't know..more _elastic_? I like it. Do strings lose that over time?
    Thanks for the awesome products and the great video. This lube makes me feel like I have a whole new yoyo - better than even when it was new!

    • @yotricks
      @yotricks  8 лет назад +1

      +Bhagwad Park Thick lube will reduce spin times a bit, especially compared to a dry bearing, which is practically what you were using at the end there. This is a big reason why players prefer completely unresponsive yoyos.
      It is okay to use the string short, but I would suggest adding two inches or so as it will make a few more tricks possible as you get better.
      Stings are more elastic when they are new.
      Thanks for all the feedback. It is difficult to communicate how important all the little details - like lube - are for new players. We always appreciate hearing how things play out in really life for people using our products. Keep in touch as you progress and let us know how things are going and if there is something you feel we could do better.

      yotricks Wow, I didn't know that unresponsive yoyos had such high sleep times. So if I've mastered the "Man on the flying trapeze" and want to get into unresponsive yoyo'ing, which one do you recommend as a starter? Am I right that unresponsive yoyos are not the same as the ones for looping (Oracle etc)?

      You are right. I would recommend getting an unresponsive bearing for your Sage to start. Since you are already so familiar with that yoyo you will immediately appreciate all the benefits.

    I recently got a Yomega Fireball. I use it to do basic string tricks like Barrel Roll and Split the Atom. I looked up some yoyo lube on my local online shopping platforms and I saw three options. There's thick lube which they use for loopong yoyos, there are two types of thin lubes. One is for semi-responsive play and the other is Mk II thin which is for unresponsive play. I chose the thin one which is also said to be for looping yoyos too, albeit semi-responsive. Is this one okay? Or should I go for the thick lube? Thank you!

    • @yotricks

    I think I might have goofed!
    So I got (at least what I think is) thick yoyo lube from Amazon. Since I didn't see this specific product there, I bought something else. On the bottle it says "Yoyo Factory performance oil (loop/response). For classic and Looping play." Sounds about like what I'm looking for (And comes in a bottle not too different from the one in this video). I've used it on my Duncan Bumble Bee. While it's become more responsive after I've cleaned it and used the "performance oil" on it, it doesn't quite have the "Out of the box" response it once had. Did I purchase the incorrect item, clean it improperly, or lube it improperly? Thanks.

    • @yotricks
      @yotricks  8 лет назад +1

      That is the right lube, most likely you just need to add a bit more, especially since you cleaned it. That being said, old school yoyos like the bumble bee are notoriously difficult to get like they do when they are new. The person who designed the bumble bee recognized that problem and more recently brought the Oracle to market which keeps it's original response much much longer.

    Yotricks , all my previous yoyo bearing rusted,how can I prevent that?

    • @yotricks
      @yotricks  9 лет назад +1

      Tan Le Shen Lube should help, but it may be a climate issue. I have never had a bearing rust, myself, but I have bought yoyos from some places that are a bit more humid, and the bearings in those yoyos do come rusted some times. It seems like if you play with your yoyo often enough, and keep it lubed that should keep the bearing from getting rusted, though.

      You should also know:
      If your yoyo is going through long periods of not being used, then you should lube it before you put it away to preserve your bearing. Oxygen in air reacts with metals to make rust, the lube (aka oil) seals the metal from the air. Don't let you bearing go dry.

      @yotricks  8 лет назад

      If you use the thin lube for the responsive bearing, it may make it play less responsive than you would like. If you are planning to use the yoyo as a responsive yoyo for a long time it is a good idea to get thick lube as well.

    • @yotricks

      Lube will thin out over time. If the yoyo is not consistently responsive right after you lube, that means you are not putting in enough. Another thing you can try, however, is to wrap the string around the bearing one or two more times when you put it on the yoyo. That may make it play as consistent as you like.

    What would you recommend for someone who would like to switch between responsive and unresponsive bearings "on-the-fly" style? Would the two lubes end up interacting with each other and cause issues?
    Also, as a joke: why not combine the two and make a universal lube that you can use for responsive and unresponsive yoyos? Gosh, bad bisnuss practices, forcing your customers into buying more things! *LOUD, EXASPERATED SCOFF*

    • @yotricks
      @yotricks  6 лет назад

      Not sure what you mean by "on the fly" but if you want a yoyo that can go back and forth without changing the bearing - like the Velocity - you only need thin lube. However, if you want a yoyo that switches bearings you will need both lubes.
      It would be nice if one lube worked, but for lube to be thick enough to make a yoyo play responsive it will automatically be too thick to allow a different bearing to play unresponsive. We can dream though ;)

    • @benregnier2291
      @benregnier2291 6 лет назад

      yotricks what I mean by "on the fly" is that it means that you would switch them out whenever you want. What I want to know is if I would have to clean the thick lube off the yoyo before I put an unresponsive bearing in, or if it'll be just fine leaving it be. I only ask because it would seem that because of the application methods, that thick lube would end up getting into an unresponsive bearing.

    • @yotricks
      @yotricks  6 лет назад

      Ahhhh, I understand. I would recommend wiping off the yoyo to get the thick lube off. It is easy enough, it could be done with toilet paper, a paper towel... your sleeve. It will not leave any residue so there is no problem.

  • @kevinnightmareszzz6140
    @kevinnightmareszzz6140 8 лет назад

    hello just a quick question um I noticed that when adding thick lube to the bearing seat instead of directly on the bearing that it makes less noise but doesn't reduce the spin time as much as applying it directly on a responsive yoyo so would doing that with an unresponsive yoyo make it responsive and another thing I heard that silicone oil for like guns n stuff works ok on unresponsive yoyos is that true?

    • @yotricks
      @yotricks  8 лет назад

      +Kevin Velazco I have not tried gun oil, but my guess is that it is not thin enough for unresponsive yoyos. Unresponsive lube is not meant to affect how yoyos play, it is only to protect the bearing, so it should only be applied to the bearing itself, and not the yoyo. It could make the yoyo responsive if it is applied wrong.

    Hey, a few months ago I bought the Arrow Elite from YoYo Factory. A few weeks ago it stopt responding properly so I did my research and found out that you need to lube certain YoYos. So I bought the YoYo Factory lube for loop/responsive play. At least thats what it said. I applyed it just like the Vid states and for like half an hour it was fine. But then it was the same as before. Looking at the Amazon page of the order, the bottle i got looks different than the one in the picture but the same as their "decrease responsibility" lube. Could it be that i got the wrong lube or could it be something else? because everytime i apply the lube, the yoyo spins fine for jjust half an hour or even less. On top of that the yoyo seems to spin way less long.

    So my responsive bearing on my sage has started to make a VERY slight Gritty or ringing noise recently. I can see the lube on the yoyo if I look at the bearing seat in the light, and have only taken the yoyo apart a few times, and never removed the bearing completely. What you are describing is normal, and not really problematic. I say "not really" because it does not affect overall performance, but I could understand if one finds it annoying. 30 seconds on a responsive yoyo is not bad, actually. Unresponsive yoyos sleep much, much longer. Lube will not help, as the lube is only designed to make the yoyo more responsive, not to help it sleep longer. Have you watched the Trapeze tutorial we posted today, we give some tips in there that might help extending your spin times with the yoyo on the string.

    How often should I be doing this? Is it just a feel sort of situation? This is my first foray into throwing a proper yoyo (my previous best is was a Fireball). I received my Sage 3 days ago and out of the box it was completely unresponsive with the included string. Luckily one of the 10 pack that I ordered worked (kind of) but I found I really had to yank back up and the yoyo wouldn't wind clean. There would be a lot of slack around the bearing before it would return. Lubed it and it got a little better. Double looped the string, got a little better But that was short lived. The last attempt seemed to really help since I added more lube than the previous time. trouble is, it's already back to being super inconsistent. Could it be that I just need to let it build up a bit and then I'll have to do this less often?
    I'm sure part of the issue is me dealing with a learning curve here but the fact that it was basically unresponsive out of the box has me slightly concerned. Fortunately I bought the starter kit so I have everything I need to tweak it or I would have a yoyo I couldn't use.
    Sorry this is long. Love your content and despite all this above I'm actually seeing improvement.
    Thanks

    • @yotricks
      @yotricks  4 года назад

      The unresponsiveness of the Sage when it was new does not signal a deficiency in the yoyo. It just means the factory didn't lube the bearing as much as they should have. The fact that putting a lot of lube in the bearing worked showed that the yoyo is working as expected. With the Sage it is designed to allow a range of responsiveness depending on how lubed the bearing is. How long are you able to play after lubing the bearing to the level of responsiveness that you prefer?

    • @Goofyfoot004
      @Goofyfoot004 4 года назад

      @@yotricks I didn't mean to imply a deficiency... sorry I worded that slightly wrong. I tend to play in smaller spurts of anywhere from 5 minutes to 30 each time over the course of the day so it's made it a little tough for me to track total time. I will try to pay closer attention since it has been anywhere between half day to a little more than a day. I start to hear a little more sound out of the bearing than it starts getting unresponsive on all but my hardest throws so when it does grab it rockets back. This kind of makes ending tricks a little frustrating since I have to rush or end them early just to have the yoyo come back way to fast for me to catch or wait a little longer and have it not respond at all. I'm sure this is a learning curve issue. When watching some of your vids I notice you talking for quite a while (with no edits) and yours comes back up with just a little tug. that is obviously my end goal lol. When I lube it lately I try your lube the channels that the bearing sits in method then a drop or two in the bearing if needed (which is usually). Thanks for responding (since I haven't found anyone local to bug :) )

    • @yotricks
      @yotricks  4 года назад

      Goofyfoot004 Ok. I mostly just didn’t want you to feel like you had gotten a dud 😉 I don’t recall if I had mentioned this to you, but the two things that can make the lube last longer is if you wrap the string around the axle one more time, for a total of two times, and sometimes the Sage needs to be over tightened just a little. Maybe 1/8 of a turn. Making the gap just a little smaller off and solves the problem.

    • @Goofyfoot004
      @Goofyfoot004 4 года назад +1

      @@yotricks Sounds like I've been on the right track. I have been double looping the string and suspected the tightening (even though I've been hesitant to over tighten the sage since I don't want to break it.)
