After the show’s fourth season, Jackée starred in her own television pilot, entitled Jackée, found Sandra Clark moving to New York City and working at a health spa. NBC aired the pilot on May 11, 1989. The pilot was rejected, and Jackée left the show; however, she guest-starred in seven of the show’s final episodes.

I agree. It wasn't quite hitting the same mark that 227 did but it should have been given a bit ore time to 'bed in' and with a bit more 'developing out' it could have become quite an enjoyable light comedy seriies. Even with leser known charractors Jacke Harry had the effervecence to carry it thought until charactors were established and coming into their own ..
This often happened when secondary characters got their spin-off. "Sandra" worked better in small doses, surrounded by people that didn't quite see eye to eye with her, allowing her to steal the spotlight from characters like "Mary" from 227. Anyway, that's the way I see things. Thank you for sharing!!!
Hey well look at this way. Had this show stayed on air she may have still been under contract and not able to do the sister sister series which started in april 1994. Jackee should have stayed on 227 til the end. Show ratings sunk once she left and it got dropped.
QuadrantBottomHalf Right. Even though, the ratings DID decline back in the '88 season, the show still survived, because of Jackee. After the NBC producers brought in four new cast members, while replacing Jackee in the final season, the show definitely hit rock bottom.
I just watched the 1st season on DVD and the creator said the show could've ran longer because it was based on her life with so many people in her building. I doubt it unless they found another pretty lady like Jackee. Maybe then the show had a good chance to run another 5 seasons.
The problem when a character gets their own spinoff is that it loses some charm because a majority of the cast from the main show is gone. We're introduced to a whole new cast of characters when we're use to seeing Sandra w/Mary, Rose, etc. There wasn't a character here for Sandra to bounce off of or be an obstacle for her.
T A Yep...I see high top fades all the time now and I'm like "We were wearing those in the late 80s early 90s!" And the kids don't even know it. But they did the same thing with Afros about 15 years ago.

Just found out from the comments below that this was the only episode. I was so hyped up about being able to watch other episodes. Also, I was looking forward to the possibility of future cameo/guest appearances of other characters from 227. Major suck-zone of disappointments.
I never kneww she had a spin off!🤔 This was a good little episode!♥️ I'm still looking to binge watch the rest off 227 after season 1...lol I guess I skipped ahead😆
I think that the primary setting for this show would have been the reason for this shows failure, the producers should have went with a hair salon theme with Jack'ee as the business owner.
The theme music in this unsold TV pilot is composed by Kurt Farquhar, who produced the music for this show, also composed the music and theme songs for many shows such as New Attitude, Drexell's Class, Roc, The Royal Family, Rachel Gunn, R.N., The Sinbad Show, Thea, Sister, Sister, South Central, My Brother and Me, In the House, Ned and Stacey, Under One Roof, Matt Waters, Moesha, The Parkers, C Bear & Jamal, Smart Guy, Cousin Skeeter, The Corner, seasons 3-9 of The King of Queens, The Famous Jett Jackson, Soul Food: The Series, The Proud Family, seasons 2 and 3 of One on One, All of Us, Girlfriends, Dance 360, Second Time Around, The Game, Keyshia Cole: The Way It Is, Just Jordan, Bill Bellamy's Who's Got Jokes?, Lincoln Heights, Russell Simmons Presents: Brave New Voices, K-Ci & JoJo... Come Clean, Read Between the Lines, Free Agents, Keisha & Daniel: Family First, Triggers: Weapons That Changed Around the World, The Fright Night Flies, Single Ladies, Keyshia Cole: All In, Real Husbands of Hollywood, The Next 15, Here We Go Again, Stitchers, The Quad, Being Mary Jane, American Soul, St. & Sinners, The Neighborhood, Games People Play, Sacrifice, Black Lightning, The Proud Family: Lounder & Prouder, and First Kill.
Funny you should say that. I remember Morris Day co-starring in a short lived television show from the late 80's or early 90's playing a similar character. I think it was called New Attitude.
I agree with everyone else that said the show should have been called 'Sandra'. It made no sense to call it 'Jackee' because that is the name of the actress and not the character she played. I think the producers felt that because Jackee had become very popular on 227 and was a household name by 1989 they decided to market the show using the actress's name in hopes that it would bring in her fan base. NBC didn't even give the show a chance. They just pulled the plug after the pilot episode. I consider that a tragedy in television history because 'Jackee' had the potential to run for 5 seasons and possibly open the door to a 227 extended universe.
I remember this episode, but I thought it was an episode of 227 dedicated to Sandra Clark. Then again I was a kid when this aired and knew nothing about spinoffs at that time.
Exactly ... this episode was added to the sydnication package for 227. They removed the JACKEE opening credits and used the 227 opening. The actors in this episode are then listed a guest stars over the opening scene. Good way to re-purpose a failed pilot and it lets 227 fans see what happened to Saunda when she left DC.
David G. Why didn't the producers let her return permanently when her show failed? She made guest appearances a few times, and then she disappeared, and wasn't mentioned or heard from again.
Jackee is a very gifted character actress and it seems they should have had a much better story and setting for her, cause this didn't work. Saundra was awesome but the rest was pretty corny.
Instead of Jackee the show should have been called Saaaundra.
Jackee was so beautiful in her prime!

I thought it was him as well 🤔
Ditto.
Back then they weren't ready for this they hardly ready for it now
Her workplace set looks similar to a different world’s dorm hall in season 5 and 6
NBC recycles sets, probably.
Jackée was good should have had her as an actual fashion designer working with runway models that industry is crazy it would have been perfect
Seems writers became lazy. Fashion designer is perfect for NY.
That was an awesome throw lol
“I LIVE LIFE! I DON’T LET LIFE LIVE ME!” 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
I forgot about this. Good to see it again. ☺ It didn't make it like 227.
I liked this!!! Why wasn't this a series!! The had staying power!!! Aww😞
I LOVE THIS SHOW SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 💖💖💖💖💖💖💣💣💣💣💣💣💣💣💥💥💥💥💥💥
I Loved When Pearl Turned Around!!😃😃😃😃
I had to subscribe to your channel!! Thank you for having all of these good shows on RUclips!! Im sharing this on Facebook also! Our people could use some laughter right about now!
Just found out from the comments below that this was the only episode.
I was so hyped up about being able to watch other episodes.
Also, I was looking forward to the possibility of future cameo/guest appearances of other characters from 227.
Major suck-zone of disappointments.
Same!
I never kneww she had a spin off!🤔 This was a good little episode!♥️ I'm still looking to binge watch the rest off 227 after season 1...lol I guess I skipped ahead😆
I remember watching this show every Friday when I was a kid. It was great then and it’s still a great show.
Got that new jack 1989 soundtrack beat.
This is the backdoor pilot of "Jackee" also a 227 episode...
I think that the primary setting for this show would have been the reason for this shows failure, the producers should have went with a hair salon theme with Jack'ee as the business owner.
They really should have made this a series.
Sandra was a icon and still today
The 80s we all had a krush on saunnnnndraaaa u right though even though its called jakee

This needed to be a hit
Dude reminds me of Morris Day, way he talks....it was the 80s..
Funny you should say that. I remember Morris Day co-starring in a short lived television show from the late 80's or early 90's playing a similar character. I think it was called New Attitude.
Morris Day was on an episode of 227
i remember that show as well morris day was a big deal back then.
Every single outfit was a hit !😍
Isnt the guy interviewing Sandra, Harvey, from Cagney and Lacey? Mary Beth's husband?
Anthony Dixon, yes, he is. Lol.
OMG!! I love this.
She was just as great in sister sister.
AWWWW, that was so nice to have Ms. Pearl on the show. That was so sweet.
I remember this episode, but I thought it was an episode of 227 dedicated to Sandra Clark. Then again I was a kid when this aired and knew nothing about spinoffs at that time.
So she moved to NYC for one episode and then moved back to Washington, DC? LMAO!
Krayola D Yes and No.when this originally aired it was a show of it's own.but when they show it in syndication they make it look an episode of 227.
Exactly ... this episode was added to the sydnication package for 227.
@@josephclegg3562 because she still had heat with Marla Gibbs.
Jackee is a very gifted character actress and it seems they should have had a much better story and setting for her, cause this didn't work. Saundra was awesome but the rest was pretty corny.
The set for the gym looks like “Dorothy Height Hall” on ‘A Different World’ circa season 4-5
I said the same thing.😃
Some ADW extras in the background too...
Wow. I didn't even know there was a spinoff featuring Jackee. I would have watched it. This episode looked like a great start to a really good sitcom.
