I remember when I did mine many years ago I was a motorcycle mechanic in the eighties, in Queens New York. I had a 77 in red and then later on a 78 in I believe they called it Moon dust silver the same color as yours. I had Italian leather saddle bags and a Tracy Vortex II faring with the 50 Watt stereo system, wish I still had it.
Hi great video manual, I wish this was around 20 years ago when I did my kz650 rebuild. I am about to replace the head gasket on my kz650 you mention the two bolts down the front and rear cam chain tunnels I know these are easy to over tighten what was your tip. You forgot to mention them it in the next videos. I have also been advised to apply a little gasket sealant (which I don't like doing) to the two outer O rings left and right to prevent them from distorting, apparently a design fault. This is where my head is leaking from. Thanks.
You didn,t put your front chain guide 2 little rubbers on top before your head gasket on otherwise your chain will rattle when idling unless its slightly different engine to mine, they are like the chain tensioner rubbers but smaller 4 little rubber bushes for both idler and tensioner anyway great video buddy
Though this video series was shot well over four years ago, I believe one of the videos does speak to cam timing. As I don't recall which one, nor do I have a record of each video content, you will have to look through the different videos to find the one in question. If I'm incorrect and the timing is not include in one of the videos, then it doesn't exist here as I don't have a video on that specific step.
***** The engine is all-original, including the lower end, cylinder and head. The only items replaced were the wear items, i.e., valve stem seals, gaskets, etc. The cylinder and head were blasted with bicarbonate soda, which I described in one of the early video segments. The lower end was simply cleaned the old fashion way... elbow grease and patience.
Are you referring to the rubber dampers for the cam chain tensioners and these elevate the head above the block deck? If so, I'd just make sure everything is oriented and installed correctly (and the correct dampeners are being used) and tighten the head down.

Oh ok thanks. I found a new nos head for a kz650 but it's like $500
How did you get it to lay flat with the rubber dampers in the way?! I’m struggling to get it to sit flat
