Kuruk had a truly sad life as well. Everyone considered him a useless Avatar that just drank and didnt care about anyone but himself while he was actually sacrificing himself little by little protecting them in the spirit world. He was actually pretty selfless the people just couldn't see it since they cant enter the spirit world

    Kuruk is so underrated.
Not only did he do all the things that you talk about, He did them with no desire for recognition.
People thought he was lazy because he would fall asleep in meetings because he was up all night fighting spirits in the spirit world.
He had to bring balance back to the entire spirit realm because of all the mess-ups from the previous avatar.
And he didn't want to taint her name because he was so noble.
He bought the strongest benders in the physical world, Then went and fought the strongest spirits in the spirit world.
All while the world thought he was lazy.
    I absolutely love him.

There was this theory I saw (not mine) that each avatar's biggest mistake/regret they made in there lifetime the next avatar fixes, example: Roku's biggest regret was not stopping fire lord Sozin before he could start the,Aang fixed it by ending the war. Aang's biggest regret was not being there when his people (the air nomads) were killed, Korra fixed this when she brought balance to the world she brought air benders back. And so what im saying is that Korra losing connection to her past lives is her biggest regret the next avatar (forgot his name) will somehow regain the connection to all his past lives again.

I remember a discussion where people were talking that this could be retconed with the net avatar finding related objects, storys or anything related to the previous avatars and has he or she is doing it it gets easier because the previous avatar has already a connections with the other ones or even he or she goes on a jorney to reconect with Aang for example( most recent one other than korra) and one would lead to another and BOOM conection restored

Dropping this in with everyone else who pointed it out:
His fusing with Rava did not give Wan the other 3 elements, that's what allowed him to KEEP the elements. He went on a walkabout with her and received them one by one, switching them out through her as his body could not handle them all at once. Fusing with her let him use them all at once and gave him that Avatar buff.
Kyoshi being bad at earthbending isn't inaccurate but it's a little misleading. She was bad at control. She could rip up entire chunks of land easily but struggled to move small rocks with precision. The feat of hers that made people think she might be the Avatar was her pulling up bedrock from underwater in the arctic.
Other abilities of hers not mentioned were her ability to bend glass and to flashfreeze blood

@@BigDyl0023 Roku didn't kill his best friend leading to him going on to genocide an entire nation and ensure the destructive Fire Nation imperialism causes suffering for a hundred years.
Szeto focused only on building the Fire Nations prosperity the consequence of which being they became the most technologically advanced society that saw themselves better than the rest of the world.
Yangchen ALWAYS sided with Humanity never once ensuring the Spirits were equally represented causing the nature of reality to become imbalanced with Humanity constantly making things worse the Spirits justifiably are beyond pissed at this many of them transform into dark spirits.
Kuruk sacrificed his life force to constantly and consistently hunt down and defeat the Dark Spirits...The consequences are he didn't regulate the politics of the mortals causing further imbalance with each nation becoming more and more corrupt breaking the philosophical ideals of each bending style. Like Fire instead of being fueled by Energy was replaced by Rage, The Earth King becoming a Tyrant etc.
Kyoshi was pretty damn good...But even she left a negative impact on the world with the creation of the Dai Li. It could also be argued her policy of albeit justified violence left the world believing that Might makes Right.
Aang didn't deal with the existence of Blood bending just ignored that fact, Didn't give the Spirits a greater voice he sometimes fought them refusing to see their side of things and sometimes he did but he never gave them equality with mortals, He didn't give equal treatment to Non-Bender and saw the rise of tech as more threat than progress.
ALL Avatars make mistakes that disrupt or break the balance. They're Human Beings too. They can't foresee the future only what's present and in their hearts. Yangchen and Kuruk and Roku came to partially hate themselves for their mistakes and kept trying to explain to Kyoshi and Aang that True Balance whether for Oneself or (really and) the World is not a simple thing to achieve. That the Avatar is not a Deity they're a Guide and Bridge to something beyond the Mortal Realm while also being Innately a Human Being for better or worse.

Kyoshi and Yangchen are the greatest avatars of all time. I see both of them as the personifications of might and force, and wisdom and truth respectively. Both have what I consider the greatest feats out of all Avatars. Szeto being able to bend 4 volcanoes in one shot is nothing compared to bending an island that, theoretically, weighed more than 25 million real-life elephants. Szeto's power like that is also nothing to like you stated with Yangchen, moving the entire sky (like seriously, how the eff do you move the sky?). But, it does not mean the main canon avatars (Aang and Korra) are stronger compared to the two being mentioned. All of the avatar's powers have bounds but their knowledge is boundless as the number of past lives they can connect and talk increases. But the next Avatar's knowledge and mental capabilities can be weak if in his time and existence, the Avatar cycle is not restored. But who knows, we'll find it out when the time comes.

Through those the spirits basically "infested" the physical world. Wan only put an energy wall on each opening, after most of the spirits had left willfully.

Okay, so a personal understanding/theory regarding how the cycle works adds to Wan being the weakest with proper feats. See, the way I understand it is that each previous avatar's life force is added to the next by Ravva, which explains why each one is more powerful than the last. On top of that the instincts and experience of the previous avatars is carried over, making them more efficient and granting 'natural' talent (case in point, Aang speedrunning avatar realisation). Without either of these factors, Wan doing as well as he did when he was the one who kicked this process off is fucking wild.

Aang literally created a huge water figure half the size of the northern water tribe at 12 years old. That's a feat on par with Kyoshis island feat and he did it at 12. He knows lightning bending, was arguably the best air nomad of all time, and created a giant water being all before his balls dropped. They all have their perspectives on how they should move forward with their role as the balance between the Human and Spirit Worlds. So it'd make sense that somewhere down the line an Avatar might say to themselves "I should probably take in all aspects of Bending to see if it can aid my efforts" It doesn't mean that everyone now needs to learn all Sub Types to their respective element. It doesn't even mean that the next Avatar after them has to learn all Sub Bending Types. It just means that we'd get to see the idea of Bending as the Avatar taken to its final stage.

@@_darrinsmith Because destroying a 10000 year cycle, leaving a whole new spirit portal open, allowing spirits to invade the physical world, considering their wonderful track record, getting her ass whooped at every turn even against non-benders and what not, while the show intenttionally kept saying, you are the best avatar ever, is definitely a mark of a true avatar.

    • @_darrinsmith

@Sibin Sam Thomas I guess running away from the responsibilities of being the Avatar for 100 years, still defaulting to running away from serious problems after, allowing for the genocide of every air bender/nomad, allowing yourself to be killed in the Avatar state and effectively ending the Avatar cycle permanently (but you know plot amor 😂), and being a terrible father to your kids because they weren't air benders so not worth any attention makes for a better Avatar right? There's no argument to be made for Aang being a better Avatar than Korra. She was a better bender, fought more powerful villains, better development, and never ran away from her responsibilities and overcame every challenge thrown at her. So yes it's absolutely insane for anyone to rank Aang over Korra and not have it be due to their personal bias against her 😂

@@_darrinsmith You wanna talk plot armor? Randomly getting airbending even after getting your bending taken away, transforming into a giant spirit even after losing the spirit of the avatar and pulling mumbo jumbo from Jinora because the writers were pulling crap out of their asses. Yeah far better. Better bender, don't know how you came up with that, but considering korra couldn't beat Vaatu with 10000 years of experience while even Wan who had no experience to draw from managed to beat him. Oh yeah, real good bender. And unless you get a direct fight between Aang and Korra, then she is a good bender only if you have some wild imagination. Fought more powerful benders? Amon practically got whiffed by a 2, 3 airblows. Vaatu was bull crap that I explained earlier, Zaheer is the equivalent of learning to swim from the internet. Kuvira is literlly the blandest Villain i have seen, who needed a giant spiritual cannon to be taken seriously. Really good villains indeed. Better development, the only development she had over the first 3 seasons were hit harder than in the previous season. The last season is the closest she gets to a development, and that too PTSD, the most common plot device for character development, what a wonderful character arc indeed. She never ran from challenges? she was literally about to jump of a cliff because she lost her bending, if it wasn't for Aang we would be getting a (hopefully) far better earthbending avatar. The show had to go out of its way to pat themselves on the back to tell the viewers that Korra was the best avatar. Though at that point it makes sense, since all the avatars were erased from existence. The only way for Korra to pass for a good avatar is if the list only includes her. Oh and let's also not forget no consequences for Korra. She gets her bending taken away. That's alright lets just give it back to her. Open the spirit portals, well lets just whip out some crap with new airbenders, that'll make ot seem ok. Lets have her wreck the avatar state, but we will still let her use the avatar state because, why not. Also i see your sense of irony is not that great considering the only way Korra is even passable as an avatar let alone get compared to Aang is with your "Bias".
PS: You said something about getting killed in the avatar state, didn't Korra get captured and posioned? Despite being the better bender 😂

respectfully yangchen shouldnt be so high up, she the reason kuruk had to fight dark spirits by neglecting them so he died early
Edit: Btw if we're talking by power heres my personal ranking
8:Wan 7:Roku 6:Zveto(ik he dont have many feats but he bendes 4 volcanos simultaneously, so he alr higher than roku lol) 5: Yangchen 4:Korra 3:Kuruk 2:Kyoshi 1:Aang btw this isnt to say aang could never lose to say kyoshi or kuruk but i believe majority of the time he wins, or bare minimum standstill
