    While I do think that the new Test Track is really good, there are many things that they should have kept. The old Test Track felt more 'complete', with the suspension and weather tests.
    The new Test Track replaced those two with 'scans' of the car, which is really nothing but a cruise through what was originally there. I can see why they took them out (maybe some riders felt uncomfortable with the bumps and heat) but I still think they should have remained on the ride.
    My favorite part about the new Test Track is how you can create your own car and view the test results. Being someone who likes coming up with designs and prototypes of cars, that is a great addition.

    The new one is no test track, it's appearance doesn't match the name at all. The first one was a more homegeneous attraction because it told a story and you were a part of it. The new one has no theme and does not refer to the future at all, nothing is tested, there is no story and there is only darkness and neon light. However the track- and the movements of the car are still the same. Alas, progress has it's price and nothing stays the same forever.

    • @jjperceval

      -appearance fits the name cause its still a test track in a simulated test environment
      -it has a theme. See above.
      -the story that youre apart of is testing your concept cars in a test setting. Almost the same as the original. Only youre not a CTD anymore.

    It all depends on what you’re looking for:
    If you want substance then the old version is for you as it was based on the actual processes used to test cars.
    If you want Sci-Fi eye candy and some fun designing and comparing futuristic (but not very plausible) vehicles you’ll prefer the new version.
    As for which suits Epcot better I’ll go against the trend and say the old one as Epcot isn’t about fantasy but the future based on what we can almost do today.
    Thanks for the comparison video!

    I like the idea of the new one, it definitely needed it and I love all the high tech stuff, but in the new one there's too much nothing. What I mean is where there was bumpy roads, brake tests, hot, cold, thermal imaging, etc. now there's just going fast randomly or looking into a mirror and nothing's going on to "test" the car... To be perfectly honest, I like the new Test Track a bit better than the old one.
    Why?
    Well, while the original was a great thrill ride, it's aesthetic was just sort of unpleasing, to me anyways., I don't like my "Immersive" Disney rides looking so, Industrial. I know that was the appeal for a good chunk of people, but it wasn't for me.
    The new one on the other hand, has a great aesthetic. Many people have compared the new ride's aesthetic to the world of "TRON" and, to be honest, That's part of the reason I like it so much. I've been wanting a "TRON" based ride ever since I saw "TRON: Legacy" in 3D a few years back. And,So Far, This is the closest thing we have to a "TRON" ride.
    And Let's be honest, It's still the same ride just with a new coat of paint. Some people don't like the new one,some people do.
    In the end,it's all opinion based.

    I like the new version much better. I feel that it is like your in a virtual testing environment, rather than an actual testing environment, which I think adds to it, because it is like a world that you can't actually go to, unlike the old one which was just "warehouse-ish". I do wish they would have kept the heat and cold tests, because the new things in that portion of the ride are very dull and lazily done, but overall I think that the new version keeps it generally more exiting throughout.

    • @SEH221
      @SEH221 9 лет назад +9

      Personally, the old version has my heart. While I love the new color scheme and the ability to design your own car to "test", I feel that the ride lost a lot of its original character, and it's fun nature of the warehouse feel. The subtraction of the heat and cold tests really made the ride rather dull, and while the new technology is very cool, it sometimes lacks the ability to be fun to be a part of.
      I always enjoyed playing the role of the "test dummy" in the old test track with thee practical tests and warehouse feel. Not only that, but I really enjoyed how the old test track went through a lot of car safety, whereas the new test track deals mostly with specs.
      (I may be a little bit biased, however. My grandfather actually invented the airbag, and it felt that the space for the airbag in queue was a tribute to him and his colleagues who collaborated on the invention. It was a very neat thing for me personally to see)

    The 2.0 version looks more like Tron, or Hotwheels acceleracers. Although the Car design station is unique, it's still annoying. It takes LONGER to wait for the ride for a stupid graphic not real car, and you can only use it ONCE. The 1.0 original one had a preview video instead, that showed much quicker. The original has more of the real design, instead of the new one with a video-game-like appearance. Honestly, I like the original better. The new one is fun too, (My parents work at Disney World) but it takes longer and takes away the perfect "testing" experience.

Yes, the new one does look like Tron but I like it since I'm a video-game junkie. The design thing was annoying since my cousin and mother were complaining that the car won't work. The old version was waaaaaaay better. The new design looks pretty bad and boring IMO, plus I believe the new version is hard on people's eyes, and more than anything I always hated Tron Legacy but glad I didn't see that movie. I rode on this ride twice: back in 1999 and in 2003, and I haven't gone to Walt Disney World since then. And if I do go to Walt Disney World again anytime, I will SKIP this ride.

  • @Xps3ubox60wii

    you are right in some areas, but you have to keep in mind... test track is supposed to teach people how companies (or more detailed chevrolet) test their "test" vehicles before they release them to the market. this new version of the ride, however, leans to a completely new theme that i cant understand. the old verson shows anti-lock brakes, barrier tests and etc, this new verison doesn't explain anything. they have some of the same test but they dont get explained enough. lack of theming.

    Then when you enter the actual ride, it immerses you into the full design aspect of a car because face it, we are in a world where everything is made by computers. You're in this world going through obstacles and actually knowing what you're doing and why. It's visually compelling and actually really fun! The only con I miss are the hot and cold chambers but the good far outweigh the bad. This is what EPCOT was built to be. About innovation and the step toward tomorrow. This is real Epcot enter!

    I am pretty partial to the old Test Track because I had a blast riding it as a kid, however, that being said, the new one looks really homogeneous. On the old Test Track you went through a series of real-life tests, but on the new one you're mainly just looking at a bunch of test results on futuristic displays, which doesn't look fun, thrilling, or educational. I appreciate the work the Imagineers put into the new version and like the futuristic concept, but it could have been better.

    I'm not gonna lie, while I'll probably still like this ride when I eventually ride it again, I'll always prefer the original Test Track. The Hot/Cold chambers were my favorite part, and now there's just some pretty holographics in its place. I was so excited on planning on having my dad ride this for the first time with the original theming, but I don't think he's a fan of TRON, and 2.0 reminds me of that. Oh wells. At least they didn't remove it completely.

    People are really upset about the design your car element. It's not geared to you, it's geared to young minds that would find such an interactive element really exciting. I bet the same people complaining are the same willing to waste hours on an Angry Bird type game. It's just another way to engage people while they wait. Who wants to pay hundreds of dollars to stare at posters and cheesy videos for two hours in a line?

    I may be in the small camp that prefers the new one overall but there are things I miss like the trick barrier test, they coulda kept it but I guess people got freaked out too much (but isn't that the point?) The Paint robots seem to have lived on in some way in Radiator Springs Racers with Ramone, so It's pretty much a nod to the old TT (along with Mack replicating the truck in both TTs). I like the visuals of the new one better because it's more retro and fits in with Retro Epcot feels. I hear there is a new version in the works that will play into retro Epcot even more so we will see.

    I guess it's just a matter of opinion. At first I shared your skepticism. But then I rode it. I think it's cooler than the original, although the original was fantastic. And you're right, the theme and story of the old version was awesome. But the tron-like theme of 2.0 is equally interactive. Maybe you're not a physical test dummy in 2.0, but in a way you're still a test dummy of sorts. Either way, opinions are going to vary about 2.0. I'll miss the original, but I absolutely love 2.0.

  • @BreakfastAtDior912
    @BreakfastAtDior912 11 лет назад

    The old version didn't even have storyline. Not everything in disney needs a storyline. Sometimes it's just about being immersed in an experience. Also, you're in the future world section of Epcot. Of course it's going to be futuristic. The original opening day rides were all futuristic [for it's time] 1.0 was just taking something that already happens and has happened for years and added 90's techno and reflector tape and you had a ride. This is about taking that step into the future..

    Actually it feels more like a testing thing more. It feels like you are in a computer program since they also say "sim ride" its supposed to feel like a simulations. Also when you almost crapped yourself were you at the ride or does it also happen when you see videos because if it only happens when you ride it I can probably guess you have not riden the new one yet so maybe you dont know the whole thing.

    Honestly, the second one looks a lot more fun but both have their own luster. The second one is more futuristic and eye popping plus its actually very appropriate for current Epcot. The old one is more science and truthful cause (in Disney's fun way) it showed how cars are actually tested. Even though I will miss the old ride, the new one is a welcomed change :).

  • @bhowable
    @bhowable 11 лет назад

    I agree and if they let us design our "own" cars, they should at least design something to where we can actually ride "our" cars. Like when you get to the loading station your originally designed car should pull up and you can get in it.

    I will say that both of them are great in their own way. The only thing I miss however is the Heat and freezing chamber, but hey, at least they kept the truck. I also think they should have renovated a little more on the outdoor tracks, along with the fact when being on those tracks would be much better at night since the indoors are all nightime theme. Just that blinding light hitting you after escaping that dark indoor area can be a little strange an irritating. But yeah, thats my thought on it.
    But I'm glad they renovated the theme anyways. Gives a more futuristic feel when you're inside a park that relates to the theme of the future.
