@@wisemankugelmemicus1701 Well, there are a few exceptions. For example, Josuke goes "DORARARARA", Giorno goes "MUDA MUDA MUDA", and Joseph goes "I love cheating on my wife"
I know we've only had one chapter so far, but I'm really into having someone like Jodio as the protagonist especially if this is the last part. He's almost the complete antithesis to Jonathan, with only the love of his family keeping him from being any different from a one-off minor villain or even prenatally another Dio. Also love how his name is jest Jo and Dio put together.
oh yes, his introduction is very similar to a mix between johnathan and dio. Johnathan as his love and care for his family and Dio in the sense that his main motto was to be rich. I guess in the future this might change kinda like how Dio's goal was, but in a more righteous path.
Their motivations as gangsters are also completely different, Giorno aims for the position while Jodio aims for the wealth. heir bosses are almost polar opposites too aside from their gender. Giorno's is all shrouded throughout his series and doesn't even aware of his family, while Jodio's is already revealed in the 1st chapter and seem to have a stable family
My BF and I noticed something interesting: Jodio is basically how Giorno would've ended up in a more realistic situation. Both Jodio and Giorno grew up surrounded by crime, having to do underhanded things to survive, but whereas Giorno had this larger-than-life gangster to watch over him and make sure his sense of justice never died, Jodio experienced what many teens in real life experience, growing jaded and cynical due to the environment around him. It kinda reminds me how Johnny and Jonathan are similar in that way too; both of them grew up with a not-so-great father, being told that "Dio" was better than them at every turn - but where Jonathan turned out to be a righteous gentleman anyway, Johnny reacted how any of us would've, becoming bitter and hedonistic.
Josuke and Josuke also are parallels in which they both grew up in morioh but one became a gay idol and the other literally fused with another man which is way more realistic
This was a really cool opening chapter. Not only do I love tropical settings but I love the characters too. Jodio is a gremlin with a really unique stand for a Jojo and I like that the main cast for this part are criminals. I’m excited to see what they get up to

I’ve gotta say, it’s truly otherworldly and a literary feat to be writing a series for 36+ years, and still make your series feel fresh & new + being able to have it be a mixed fusion homage of past events, taking place in an alternate modern present day as a reflection of our world. In regards to the story, this is just a prediction for now but I firmly believe it’s going to be Jodio making money off of these islands while being able to fully understand the mechanisms behind how everything in this Bizzare world works, and claiming them as “The JoJoLands” off of himself, and maybe even, to take it a step further, possibly have his stand November Rain Evolutionize itself to somehow connect to the original JoJos continuity. Outsiders don't understand the traditional Mahu role in our culture. It is not really a separate gender identity (in the western sense). Traditionally the role entailed being male, but not taking up traditional responsibilities of males like hunting or leadership. Instead they took up spiritual roles. They were in some minor ways similar to the catholic priests of old, never starting families and living spiritual lives instead of engaging in manual labor. When portraying gods and goddesses in our dances in our holy places, women where often not allowed, so Mahu had to play the roles of both gods and goddesses. Similar to how Europeans often used men in their plays to portray female characters, the Castrati actors. That being said many Mahu were asexual or gay men and often Mahu would have sex with other men. Mahu had a different role in the tribe but were not a separate gender. At least not anymore than catholic priests, actors, crossdressers, or being gay are a separate gender.

amazing review! here are a few things i think you missed: - Part 9 Chapter 1 is the longest chapter in Jojo history, at a whopping 70 pages. - “jodio” is a spanish word that means “fucked up” and is most commonly used as slang in puerto rico. - “dragona” is the spanish word for a female dragon. - dragona’s stand appears to be very similar to mista’s stand, in that there are multiple little critters that have numbers on their heads.
My theory is that the mechanism Jodio is referring to is interpersonal relationships as well as networking and building yourself a good image among the people around you. He already did so to gain the trust of the organized crime in the island where he lives, as well as to protect his mother and give her a good life. As such, I think his goal is to become the most influential person in the society around him, as a sort of nod to Giorno's dream of becoming a mafia boss
MAN it's great to have this back! It's so refreshing that Araki is just cutting to the chase with this first chapter with a good summary of multiple main characters and three stands already established without that slow buildup that we saw in most other parts.
2:25. You bastard. I'm writing a Jojo fanfic taking place in the "Irene" universe with a new cast. I spend FOREVER rewatching the "how Araki comes up with characters" video, look up how many songs, go through 6 drafts and I finally feel comfortable designing and coming up with Stand ideas... and you pose yet ANOTHER way to look at how Araki comes up with Stands that uproots everything I thought I understood.
With Tsurugi being an adult in part 9, it would be natural to assume he's now the head of the family, so he'd more likely send someone like joshu or even josuke to america instead of himself
I saw someone point out that in the Japanese version, Dragona uses femine self pronouns, so it could be the case that Dragona does prefer to be referred to as female but let's their brother refer to them as male (since this chapter is all from Jodio's view). This could be because Jodio doesnt understand Dragona's gender and they are alright with that, or Dragona let's Jodio refer to them as male since it's what the little brother is used to. The latter seems more likely, a friend of mine explained that actually does happen with some trans people. But we just have to wait til Dragona reveals what they see themselves as
@@scott--1629 exactly. Since english doesnt have anything like that, it causes an aspect of the character to be lost. I feel like a translators note should have been added to correct that.
@@fullmetalpotato1258 well if the person translating the chapter was english, they themselves would have a hard time figuring out what it actually says. but i can see araki coming out either sometime soon or after jojolands ends to clraify for us
It’s pretty insane and inspiring to me that Araki has kept up his quality since starting the new universe. Easily one of the best opening chapters of anything in my humble opinion, and what we saw of the Hawaiian scenery was breathtaking. Had “Blue Hawaii” playing the whole time.
OMG the part about him touching the truck beforehand is such a nice catch! Being able to transfer an object's properties to rain drops would be such an interesting ability.
It also would be in line with the trend of having an initial ability that changes when the story develops that has happened since even part 3 with Kakyoin’s usage of Hierophant Green and the two uses of Star Finger.
I think Joshu being the Japanese tourist could be interesting, it would give him a chance to show off his stand again and to show us how the Tooru incident changed him
I feel like November Rain is like a new universe Weather Report, but instead of emulating weather, it can produce various weather-like effects with unique effects, like raindrops that act like 3 Freeze, or sunshine that can obscure him with mirages or something along those lines.
We can actually nail down the timeframe a little more, the mask mandate was lifted in Hawaii in March 2022, which means JOJOLands takes place sometime from March 2022 to now
Honestly watching so many reviews on JOJOLands really showed me why the popular Jojo accounts are on top, you guys really understand the work and break it down in such nuanced ways.
i am hyped for this manga, and love your idea of the November Rain stand. Like it probably has to touch something in order to make the rain react in a way
I'll be honest, November Rain's design immediately became one of my favourites next to Crazy Diamond the moment I saw it due to how simply tall and huge when it appeared, it just looked super cool and menacing from the first 2 panels of his appearance. It's exactly what any kid younger or as young as Jodio would imagine their powers or stands will look like being exceedingly bigger and scarier than themselves, and I love it.
I'd imagine the team's stands are gonna be very useful together in sequence as opposed to them being seemingly alright separately for the heist(s)...like a mechanism
It'd be really funny if Dragona was a similar situation as Anasui in Stone Ocean, only to a more extreme. He appears feminine at first, then disappears for a short time, and then when he returns he looks MASSIVE. With a build like he was pulled straight from Battle Tendency or Stardust Crusaders. And nobody acknowledges it. Just gaslight the audience, we all just pretend like Dragona has always been like this. Next we see Dragona looking a like a Pillerman.
Can't wait for more! Having you break down each JoJolion chapter as they released was an integral part of reading through it for me. Explaining concepts, pointing out details I missed, etd. You can bet I'll be around for every chapter review of part 9. Keep it up man!
Im probably wrong, but i have a gut feeling that mechanisms will be a game changer. Part 1: Hamon Part 2: Evolution of Hamon Part 3: Stands Part 7: Spin Part 8: Evolution of spin Part 9: Mechanisms
Your channel is so synonymous with the series to me at this point, after reading I immediately was excited to have your chapter commentaries back in my rotation. Here's to the ride, and here's to The Hustle.
The part will only get animated once its done. Itll most likely finish in 2033 cus thats how long jojolion took. Then the anime would have had to have gone and adapted through the two longest parts of jojo by then. So ur looking at more than a decade easily
All the memes about Mechanism males and everything have been some of the best stuff to come out from this one chapter. Super excited to see where the part goes from here
Alright. Hear me out. Jodio's father is Emporio, and November Rain is Weather Report reborn- and it's going to probably evolve to resemble the strongest stand in the series as Jodio develops.
Adding on to what you think November Rain will do, if it is able to take properties from other objects, I hope it’s worded as it taking “mechanisms” from something, and that as it evolves and Jodio grows that it’ll be able take more abstract mechanisms.
Man it’s crazy I started jojo at the start of Covid and since last year was waiting on the finish of jojolion and now watching feels like time traveling
Hearing Covid being mentioned in a Jojo part is hilarious considering in the alternate universe the origins of stands can be traced back to an alien virus.
My personal theory on Mechanisms in the context of Jojolands is that they are less a phenomenon like stands and moreso a philosophy of Jodio if that makes sense. It's his way of seeing how the different events of the world collaborate together I guess we'll see where the concept of mechanisms goes with Jojolands
The whole thing about the mechanism bringing fortune reminds me of the power of the holy corpse from part 7 and that along with Giorno and by extension Jodio being a christ allegory makes me curious if the corpse will be involved somehow.
I think Paco's stand has some HUGE potential. He could cover himself in tough objects and make an outer shell with them as defense. He could cover himself in sharp objects and make it difficult for anyone to attack him. He could probably use the ability to grab onto walls and climb on vertical surfaces. I don't think this should be labeled as one of the worst stands.
Droplets before falling start out as perfect Spheres so it makes me think Joido is going to learn at some point how to use the spin on his stand's rain
I really appreciate you acknowledging the complicated situation behind the fan translation and Dragona's identity, I'd really like to believe that they're our first major trans woman character but I'd be fine with whatever Araki decides to do with them.
Thank god someone has addressed the principle being an alternate polpo. I didn't want to seem like I was fat shaming but you brought it up so casually.
i wouldn't call it anywhere near fat shaming, all you did was notice that 2 people were similar weight. but these days anything you say about weight is somehow "fat shaming"
This whole part starting with a heist going incredibly wrong is about to be one of the strongest part starts ever
I’m not sure if this’ll happen but I would love for the heist to end with Gappy beating the shit out of them with Soft and Wet.
I'm pretty confident that jodio is gonna steal the diamond with dragona ain't no way he's gonna keep only 30k out of 6 mil steal it for himself I mean

Or maybe Jodio coats his hands in the heavy rain droplets and delivers a rush himself, since they don’t seem to affect him.
It gotta be something more complicated and interesting than just that tho
yea
amazing review! here are a few things i think you missed:
- Part 9 Chapter 1 is the longest chapter in Jojo history, at a whopping 70 pages.
- “jodio” is a spanish word that means “fucked up” and is most commonly used as slang in puerto rico.
- “dragona” is the spanish word for a female dragon.
- dragona’s stand appears to be very similar to mista’s stand, in that there are multiple little critters that have numbers on their heads.
he saysthe first thing u listed multiple times
My theory is that the mechanism Jodio is referring to is interpersonal relationships as well as networking and building yourself a good image among the people around you. He already did so to gain the trust of the organized crime in the island where he lives, as well as to protect his mother and give her a good life. As such, I think his goal is to become the most influential person in the society around him, as a sort of nod to Giorno's dream of becoming a mafia boss
That makes a lot of sense considering a lot of people who are rich or successful are so because of networking to some degree
I love the idea of the Smooth Operator stand! Also I really like that November Rain is a massive, super imposing, quadruped.
MAN it's great to have this back! It's so refreshing that Araki is just cutting to the chase with this first chapter with a good summary of multiple main characters and three stands already established without that slow buildup that we saw in most other parts.
The NEO TWEWY music fits this part's vibe already- and all-round is excellent taste on your behalf!
Tsurigi: "Joshu gtfo josu8ke you stay"
Joshu: "Why"
Tsurigi: "I am head of household plus josu8ke isn't annoying af"
I saw someone point out that in the Japanese version, Dragona uses femine self pronouns, so it could be the case that Dragona does prefer to be referred to as female but let's their brother refer to them as male (since this chapter is all from Jodio's view). This could be because Jodio doesnt understand Dragona's gender and they are alright with that, or Dragona let's Jodio refer to them as male since it's what the little brother is used to.
The latter seems more likely, a friend of mine explained that actually does happen with some trans people.
But we just have to wait til Dragona reveals what they see themselves as
it's well known that it's hard to translate pronouns and masculine/feminine terms from japanese
@@scott--1629 exactly. Since english doesnt have anything like that, it causes an aspect of the character to be lost. I feel like a translators note should have been added to correct that.
@@fullmetalpotato1258 well if the person translating the chapter was english, they themselves would have a hard time figuring out what it actually says. but i can see araki coming out either sometime soon or after jojolands ends to clraify for us
@@scott--1629 that makes sense
Love how you did the reaction unedited reaction on Patreon and then you do another for RUclips! The content 👏🏾
We can actually nail down the timeframe a little more, the mask mandate was lifted in Hawaii in March 2022, which means JOJOLands takes place sometime from March 2022 to now
Your monthly jojolion reviews got me to read the rest of JoJo's after I finished Part 4 so I can't wait to see you continue with JoJolands.
Araki adding a GNC character into JoJo is the biggest W in manga
Huge brain is to swap it back and forth every few chapters for maximum trolling
Can't wait for more! Having you break down each JoJolion chapter as they released was an integral part of reading through it for me. Explaining concepts, pointing out details I missed, etd. You can bet I'll be around for every chapter review of part 9. Keep it up man!
Jodio's expression while telling us about himself at 14:28 reminds me of Rohan during his 'I refuse.' scene.
And after reading chapter 2, I'm hoping this was intentional. 😂
This aged amazingly
Dude saw into the recent future like Diavolo
Love Jodio's stand "Noviembre Sin Ti", perfect name Araki chose
Im probably wrong, but i have a gut feeling that mechanisms will be a game changer.
Part 1: Hamon
Part 2: Evolution of Hamon
Part 3: Stands
Part 7: Spin
Part 8: Evolution of spin
Part 9: Mechanisms
Your channel is so synonymous with the series to me at this point, after reading I immediately was excited to have your chapter commentaries back in my rotation. Here's to the ride, and here's to The Hustle.
It's kinda crazy to think we’re experiencing this part that likely won’t be animated for at least another 4-5 years.
More like 10+ lol
@@xForts Bro really said 4-5 years like it wont take that long for just Steel Ball Run to come out
@@bc1176 Yeah, I was probably being overly hopeful
The part will only get animated once its done. Itll most likely finish in 2033 cus thats how long jojolion took. Then the anime would have had to have gone and adapted through the two longest parts of jojo by then. So ur looking at more than a decade easily
I like how, on the stand page, it shows major antagonist and protagonist stands, and then also Ebony Devil is there.
Araki remembered this weird little stand.
I consider "the mechanism" to be an extension of "the flow" that had been mentioned in Part 7 and 8 (e.g. Pocoloco, Love Train, Wonder of U)
Been a MINUTE since a jojo chapter review, I've missed these man. Glad to watch these again, looking forward to Chapter 2 and your review of it!
The Japanese tourist is definitely gonna be Yasuho, since she corresponds to Koichi, who was featured in Part 5, where he was (almost) robbed.
Josu8ke: "GTFO AWAY FROM WIFE!!!"
Jodio: "OH SHIT I THOUGHT NO ONE WAS HERE"
All the memes about Mechanism males and everything have been some of the best stuff to come out from this one chapter. Super excited to see where the part goes from here
Alright. Hear me out. Jodio's father is Emporio, and November Rain is Weather Report reborn- and it's going to probably evolve to resemble the strongest stand in the series as Jodio develops.
I can already tell Jodio is about to become my favorite JoJo
Fiiiinally there. The new characters are already iconic and so sweet!
This is the best chapter review for part 9. I've watched them all and this is the best for sure. Can't wait to watch every review you make.
Man I cant wait to wait for more jojolands chapter to come in the next 100s of decades
Adding on to what you think November Rain will do, if it is able to take properties from other objects, I hope it’s worded as it taking “mechanisms” from something, and that as it evolves and Jodio grows that it’ll be able take more abstract mechanisms.
Today I learned X Forts likes dua lipa and that does put a smile on my face
Man it’s crazy I started jojo at the start of Covid and since last year was waiting on the finish of jojolion and now watching feels like time traveling
Dragona, we have to cook.
The shop name "Iko Iko" is a reference to the song of the same name by Justin Wellington
Which is a song featuring islands
Hearing Covid being mentioned in a Jojo part is hilarious considering in the alternate universe the origins of stands can be traced back to an alien virus.
Giorno will not like this
Giorno: Is that a F***ing WEED!?
Jodio: Weed
My personal theory on Mechanisms in the context of Jojolands is that they are less a phenomenon like stands and moreso a philosophy of Jodio if that makes sense. It's his way of seeing how the different events of the world collaborate together I guess we'll see where the concept of mechanisms goes with Jojolands
xForts explaining mechanisms is like that one cool teacher everyone likes doing fun work
The whole thing about the mechanism bringing fortune reminds me of the power of the holy corpse from part 7 and that along with Giorno and by extension Jodio being a christ allegory makes me curious if the corpse will be involved somehow.
That was very blunt 💀 6:43
I think Paco's stand has some HUGE potential. He could cover himself in tough objects and make an outer shell with them as defense. He could cover himself in sharp objects and make it difficult for anyone to attack him. He could probably use the ability to grab onto walls and climb on vertical surfaces. I don't think this should be labeled as one of the worst stands.
I can't wait for the story of this part and of course, your chapters' reviews!! your videos are my faves so far ^^
Droplets before falling start out as perfect Spheres so it makes me think Joido is going to learn at some point how to use the spin on his stand's rain
Ive watched like a thousand jojoland review but im always waiting for yours and you doesnt disappoint
I really appreciate you acknowledging the complicated situation behind the fan translation and Dragona's identity, I'd really like to believe that they're our first major trans woman character but I'd be fine with whatever Araki decides to do with them.
I really thought he was a girl now I feel duped
@@peterpiiper They may still be
vibing with this TWEWY background music.. just so you know, I really appreciate it 😎
Thank god someone has addressed the principle being an alternate polpo. I didn't want to seem like I was fat shaming but you brought it up so casually.
i wouldn't call it anywhere near fat shaming, all you did was notice that 2 people were similar weight. but these days anything you say about weight is somehow "fat shaming"
Man you so good and in depth.....i love it ..
.W post
....can't wait for new chapters and your reviews
I'm surprised you didn't bring up Ebony Devil just hanging out with Tusk and D4C and stands way more important than it
Ebony Devil is S teir
here we go, cant wait for November Rain to be able to be able to summon raindrops that tear through the fabric of the multiverse
araki said acab, trans rights, and wear a mask all in the first 30 seconds lmao
Real
Holly hell I've lived so long that I'm older then a JoJo main character
Go find alessi
