This turned out to be a good video- Thanks. I skeptical when I saw the drill come out....was waiting for you to put your hand inside and drill through into it. You saved my faith in humanity by not only NOT drilling your hand but actually succeeding in removing the cleat! Good Job!

Amazing simple fix for a nasty problem. Have been trying to remove a couple of stuck spikes on my foot joys for 18 mos. Almost threw them away, even though every thing else was like new. Amazing how simple solutions are often hard to find. Everyone thinks of problems in different ways, and your way solves it. Keep solving problems. It is so satisfying to work these things through. Thanks.

I've got the exact same shoes (Nike air rival 4... Like 4 or 5 years old!) and hadn't changed the spikes ever... couldn't get them out and the spike wrench was ripping the old rubber apart. This made it sooo easy. Thanks man! Shoes have now got a new lease of life!

This was exactly what I needed. I was either going to ruin my hand the night before a round or end up trashing the entire shoes. With this video, I could salvage the shoes. Thank you very much,

I was able to use a needle nose pliers after drilling. They spikes were easier to remove than using the standard spike tool.

Thank you for this!!!!! It worked! For the extra ‘caked’ on spikes, I suggest soaking the shoes on a cookie sheet of water prior to removing the old spikes.

Not sure if you’ll ever see this but THANK YOU SO MUCH for making this video!!
(Attempting to) Swap the spikes on my ultra boost 360’s has been the most frustrating thing since well.. I started playing golf.
Before I’d get maybe 1 done in a 15 minute sitting before getting frustrated and giving up… was just able to swap all 16 spikes in under 10 minutes doing this.

Hey bub thanks for the idea but i got something for the guys with no spike removed tool, i drilled slightly bigger hole on the spike, not deeper just bigger and i use a short handle needle nose pliers, and twist it right out, the pliers wont work with the regular size spike with you can't get Leverage but widen it and the pliers fit in, shorter the pliers means more grio and power. Thanks for the idea.

I have a pair of Nike’s with scorpion spikes. Using needle nose pliers to pull on the corners of each spike to loosen them and then soaking in warm soapy water for a few mins, they came out pretty easily via the 2 prong cleat wrench.

Thanks, I was hoping there was an easier method but I guess there isn't. If I had the wrench it might help but not a whole bunch. I used needle nose pliers to get the first one out. I think with both shoes I have about 11 more spikes to remove. Vice-grips or channel lock pliers might save a little time. It seems like Nike don't want you to be able to get them out.

I agree with the shock of using a hammer. Similar idea to an impact drill. Loosens the compacted dirt under the clear. Personally I use the reamer attachment on a Swiss Army knife to dig out stones and dirt. Just be careful it does fold onto your finger 😮

A couple comments. First don't let your spikes get that worn. Second soak the shoes in warm water mixed with dish soap to remove the crud under the spike (as shown in the video). Third and most important get a cleat ripper from Softspikes. Super easy to use and you won't destroy the shoes by using drills or prying hard with screwdrivers (easy way to destroy the spike receptacle).

    • @matt7iron

Bub you gotta drill the holes a little bigger with a bigger drill bit then the needle nose pliers fit in for more leverage, mines are coming out right now that way and they were frozen in.

Just push the 2 prong removal tool though the studs. Not just in the holes but through the bottom of the holes and through the stub and twist. You'll be good to go then.

Break all the plastic off with a needle nose pliers. If the spike has been on there awhile they will basically break into many pieces anyway. You're left with the threaded metal cap with holes all the way around. Remove the cap with your pliers. Bingo. No drill or bit needed.
