Something I learned through training for child care is not to tell kids that what they're doing isn't hard. It doesn't make them feel any better and even if they aren't trying they're less likely to try. Because pushing through things you don't like or doing unfamiliar activities is hard. The best way to help them is acknowledge the difficulty and make them feel powerful and strong for overcoming it. Or actually ask them why it's hard, make them put into words and don't expect children to be ace communicators like your 40 year old mind is. If they don't see the importance of the action, make it important not inaccessible. Tough love is not good parenting because it enforces punishment with any success which isn't a sustainable for their whole life.

I just moved and was literally unpacking my own creative space while listening to this on Monday. One of the first things I did was mat and frame the print of you knitting together and hang it above my desk, so you can forever be slightly baffled by everything I do, but hopefully also inspire some continued creativity through curiosity. It's one of my favourite spots in the house now. ☺

Rhett, all bikes come in boxes, even the one that are built at stores come in boxes, the guys at the stores make them in the back. Five bikes start to finish take about 7 hours to build

Ear biscuits is a nice diversification from GMM. GMM is daily escape while EB can take on more gravitas. Smart.

maybe this is a pet peeve for others, but i absolutely LOVE how the first part of these almost always never have ANYTHING to do with the title lol. it always makes me wonder, wait, what did i click on again? why they talking about bikes? i love it.

Rhett, i grew up riding bikes in AZ and i used to get flats all the time from goat heads, then my dad showed me this stuff called slime that you put in the inner tubes, and it is like a stop leak that is always in the tire, it works awesome, maybe that’ll help you out my dude
Heck yeah, I grew up in Arizona too and the only way to survive the goat heads is with slime
I live with just my dog. I love that the world now is less messy when I go outside. I actively dislike being in public and I hope the lockdown never ends.

Speaking of creative spaces, I'm currently converting a school bus into a home for my family! We've never had a space that was really ours, and COVID has put me into a pretty good hault but I've always loved the record wall and all the different color variety in your sets 🤠❤ you guys inspire me

As a person who can't ride a bike bc it hurts my knees, I'm like dang Rhett I'd be crying by now, why so harsh.

We decided to go hiking to leave quarantine this weekend. It was supposed to be an intro to hiking. 1.5 mile hike. Went with our 7 year old and 4 year old. Needless to say, it didn't go as planned. 1 member of the family decided 20 minutes in that they needed to poop) and then we got lost for 3 & 1/2 hours. Trying to convince my kids to keep going was almost impossible. We made it (GPS 💖). I totally understand the "parent" feeling when you are trying, you screw up, get angry and try to keep your cool.

We're still very much in the middle of self-isolation and nobody aside from essential workers should leave home, so you're not crazy.
I am in the process of moving so I appreciate this Ear Biscuits episode for pulling together some thoughts I've been having.
My current setup has my office in my bedroom though I do have a record cupboard and book cupboard back to back dividing the space. My new home allows me a separate office. I've ordered tall, wide bookcases so I can utilize the room and get rid of my old bookcases that are too small as well as the ones that are falling apart. I was originally going to keep my laptop in there. The laptop ends up being a distraction to what my ultimate goal is in being a published author. My best work was always done old school with notebooks so this is what I'm returning to now.
Been sorting through my pictures and art trying to decide what goes where. Been trying to find some Keith Haring works and have it narrowed down to my favourites (thanks Link for inspiring me to check his work out).
I've been working on getting rid of the items I don't use. I'm moving from a space with an attic and a huge barn so I won't have that kind of space for storage. Am working on making sure nearly everything comes out of storage. I want to display or use everything in some fashion. No more bins or hardly any bins. Trying to hunt down the perfect filing cabinet. I'm excited about building this new creative space.
I loved hearing Rhett and Link's thoughts on their various creative spaces. I'm so happy for them and the joy they have at the idea of the finished creative house. Enjoying the tiktok sketches that have apparently been a result of that space.
Loved this episode. Has inspired me to make sure I take full advantage of this blank slate of an office I'm receiving.
My bookcases won't arrive until the end of July or beginning of August, a few weeks after I move, but I'm so happy I splurged instead of sticking with what no longer works.
Here's to a strong return to my artwork and writing.
Funny the stories of the teachable moments in fatherhood. Makes me think of my dad trying to teach me multiplication decades ago. He'd get so mad when I couldn't grasp certain ones. 9 x 9 and 8 × 8 will always be in my head because of how he lost his cool one day. He apologized later. Don't even get me started on when I had to learn how to tell time. I love my dad very much, but it's a good thing he didn't become a teacher. Though... he's the one who taught me how to drive in the city so I could get my license. My mom was too terrified. She hates other people driving - she wants to be at the wheel.
I knew it! I had a bike like that one time. I couldn't for the life of me figure out why it took so much effort until I used my wife's bike one day. The back tire on mine was rubbing and it was like climbing a hill constantly
Being an introvert, we miss people going out, so we can be home all by ourselves.

I'm an aspiring on comic book artist, my creative space is my bed room. (Living at home with my parents post college.) I think its a great space; has my desk, art supplies and tons of books. I literally have over a 1,000 books in my room, mostly comics. I like being in a space space with everything I need in reach.
Stand By Me is definitely my coming of age movie. I discovered it around 2004 or so. I was 12 going on 13 and that movie still sticks with me.

Interesting view on space. Since COVID I have set up this tiny desk in this small spot in our house for work. My husband keeps saying “But you have YOUR space”. But I don’t see it that way. It’s space for work, it’s not like I’m doing a hobby, it’s work. It’s not some sort of “get away” my kids are still yelling in the background and I can still hear my husband getting after them. I like my job, but I’d rather not have this small space.

Might i just say.. I am a pregnant mom with a toddler who has worked from home for 3 years. We have a way to show our “status” and I’m able to CC my supervisor on all communications so she knows I’m actively working. My employer gave me a 90 day period to prove myself as a remote worker. At any time this could be revoked if they feel I am not performing well. I just want to vouch for remote employees. Not everyone is cut out for it or wants to do it but some of us are & do. I would say employers should be more open to this test period and find reasonable ways for accountability in a day. that’s all! ♥️

Y’all asked how our spaces are contributing to what we’re trying to create. My dream is to have my own house that is more conducive to my creativity. Until then, I’m trying to
set up zones in my apartment that make creativity better. Some areas serve more than one purpose and have to be set up and taken down, but for now it works.
It’s easy to watch movies and documentaries and read books. What are you doing in your
neighborhoods? What are you doing to honor all of the lives you encounter face to face? What are you doing to change your hearts to have the capacity to show love and
acceptance? That is the real work.

I don't like to leave negative comments, but as a bike shop employee and avid biker who has dealt with customers like Rhett all through COVID, there are a few things that run through my mind I could say. but I won't. but I could. but I won't.
