It was me that recognised you in the cafe! We had been in Prague for maybe 2 hours and I was telling my friends that I had seen your videos regarding scammers literally 10 mins before sitting in the cafe! Nice meeting you! 👊🏼👍🏼
I guess you're glad, the coffee place wasn't a scam :D
I met Janek on the tram a few days ago at night and shook his hand. We engaged in short small talk but I was really nervous xD
We got down in the same stop and said goodbye to each other.
Glad to have met the legend himself.
And I wondered with my gf where were you from, so now I can find out :)
@@janekrubes I'd have liked to talk to you for a bit longer, but I didn't want to bother you two too much xD
I'm from Tenerife, Spain. If you want to, I'd like to invite you to a couple of beers sometime. I'll stay here for 2 months more (but hopefully I can stay for longer), so let me know if you are up for it and I'll hit you up on Instagram :)
I’m in Prague currently. I’ve taken your recent food recommendations! Had Las Adelitas first, definitely true that it was good for locals and tourists. Service and food were incredible. Then went to Strídačka (the hockey bar), it took a couple of tries as it was so busy but we finally got in and the food was incredible also. I’m booked up for Pasta Fresca tomorrow and really looking forward to it. Also got the Větrník from Cafe Savoy (along with juice, a ham omelette and a ham & cheese croissant for breakfast). Everything you’ve recommended so far food wise has been amazing!! One thing my partner and I have struggled with is wondering what to do in the evening as we don’t drink. I feel like we will definitely return to Prague with a better list of things to do. I didn’t have a tonne of time to put together a large list of things to do this weekend on our first trip to Prague but I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my visit and have not been bothered by any scammers. I got my train ticket checked and the ticket checker showed me a badge which I initially thought was a scammer trying to sell me a key ring and I just put my hand up to him to him and said “no, no” without realising who he was at first so that was a bit awkward!😂 Loved it though! Been watching your videos for quite a few years and it is great to finally be in Prague after viewing it on my small screen via your videos for so long!
Also find it a shame how many public toilets you need to pay for. It seems silly to pay for that. I’d rather go to a cafe and buy a drink but if the more I keep drinking the more I need the toilet so there is no winning 😩😂
One thing you can do in the evening is visit a 'Black Light Theatre' there are different ones around the city but they all work the same way as a kind of speechless performance art event. Also look for places that have musical events on at night time...
@@lauramoscrop6106 i dont know how it is in Prague but in Germany you can use the toilet of the café, bar, restaurant... but for stand-alone public toilets you have to pay
Alebrijes is so much better for Mexican food though :D
@@stillx1211 I always feel that if I go to a restaurant or cafe it is common practice to buy something from them to use their toilet - I’ve been to a lot of places (not in Prague) who always request to make a purchase when using their facilities etc. I probably could have just gone into one to use their toilet without any problem but oh well haha.
Multitasking on another level: while chasing scammers, noticing a nice new cafe, and coming up with ideas for a new video.
I used to live in the second building Janek visited (with the artisan café, Vejvodova 445/1 or Jilská) and there is another interesting fact about it. As he already mentioned, it was called a ball room (ballgasse), because of its usage. But it is also said to be the first place where the modern version of tennis had been invented. Of course the game itself was much older, but the rules of the game that were used there were very similar to the rules we have today. It's something that cannot be proven really, but I found it nice and symbolic to live in a building that could've played a key role of inventing the sport I (and many Czech people) really love.
And the last fun fact. The building was originally built in the early 13th century and it is yet another example of having a building so old, that because of all the debris that accumulated on the streets throughout the time, the original first floor is today converted into a basement as the street level have risen since then. Of course since then the building had been altered several times and the current layout had been finished at the end of 1860s.
All in all, it was an interesting place to live in and surprisingly large. It is possible to rent a couple of spacious flats there (airbnb was used quite a lot unfortunately and some of the tourists were quite loud) or even buy one. The prices aren't low, but not as high as you could expect from such an old building. Just be careful, it has its quirks and for example in the winter tends to be quite cold unless you constantly run the heating.
In Germany we have a saying concerning your blindness for abvertisements.
Man sieht den Wald vor lauter Bäumen nicht - You cannot see the forest because of all the trees 😅
Great selection in this video, we have been to Artisan a few times - absolutely love it.
Another fantastic gem is Cukrárna Alchymista by Sparta Prague Football stadium, amazing coffee and cakes and garden area.
We also tried Las Adelitas from your last video, we usually have Mexican at Cantina but Adelitas so great, nachos and tacos with some drinks went down a treat guys so thank you.
I'd love if you did a list of the best Vegan restaurants in Prague. Seems like there is more and more now, and it would be great to see which ones are worth going to.
Yawn
Vegan Prague right by the castle on top of Nerudová, with a nice view of the Prague Castle :)
there is Maitrea by the Týn church, or was, the last time I heard :p
This kind of video is definitely my favorite from your channel. I love getting tips on beautiful and interesting places in Prague.
This was a great video, it’s nice to find places like the ones you showed. Please show us more hidden cafés and quiet places to study.😊
Kavárna Bazén is my absolute favourite - would love you guys to check it out in a future episode! I found it when I visited Prague a couple of weeks ago - you can drink a coffee in the old swimming pool (thankfully without the water!)
Artisan is great !
I was in Prague at the start of this month, arranged to meet a friend from Pardubice, who was working in Prague for a day, at U Vejvodu pub. Whilst waiting for Petr, I popped into Artisan, great service, coffee and interior
7:58 This shot absolutely made my day!! :-D I'm so glad there is shown how terrible is our situation right now, when we're walking to school every morning on this street, instead of using a tram
This vlog of Prague was amazing! The way the you captured the essence of the place was truly impressive 🤩. I loved how they were able to convey the atmosphere so well. Like and support from MP.
I strongly recommend one of your previous picks - Roesel. I've been there yesterday and everything was amazing, from the location to the food and drinks itself.
i also have no idea if it's mentioned in this video because im like 4 minutes through.
Yes pleeeeeeeease show more COFFEE SHOPS! MAYBE YOU CAN DO AN EPISODE ABOUT COFFEE ROASTERS IN PRAGUE?
2:04 "I actually found (this coffee place) by accident when I was chasing some scammer" That's hilarious. I guess you could say that scammer was your "dishonest (and also unwitting) guide" 😂
I was in Prague about 30 years ago for the last time, and wow has it changed! I really like to visit again.
The first place you went on vaclavske namesti looks like the place where used to be an ice cream bar.
Keep up the work guys, your videos are great!
Watching this channel for years and never thought to get to Prag - and now I'll be there end of June!
Saw your video on safe ATMs. Thanks for all your videos
All of these are really spot-on, thanks for the recommendations! But so far, the best coffee I had in Prague was in this little cute shop called Kolacherie in Old Town (and don't even get me started about their koláches, top notch😄)
Hahaha, sooo true! I still play confused when ordering a Espresso, and the waiter askes if I want it small or big - happens even in Vienna 😂
Hi guys, great video. You guys have saved me from scammers everywhere. Always good advice. I will definitely check these places out when I am there. 5 weeks to go lol. As always have a good one eh!😁🇨🇦
Mala Strana, or also traditional in german: Kleinseite (klein = little, small) is not Lesser Town! What is Lesser Town? Little Quarter in my Opinion is the "honest guide" Translation for the historical Quarter: Mala Strana/Kleinseite/Civitas Minor. In former times it was an own Town linked with Charles Bridge to the old town. Jan Neruda was an important writer in the 19th Century, who was born in Mala Strana/ Kleinseite or like to say in english: Little Quarter.
At 0:41 there is ad for "Kralovska vestirna"... what about doing an episode where you and Honzik will try all the most bizzare things like that in Prague? I think it would have many views 😁
I don’t think I’ve seen a review of Hradec Králové - my favourite Czech city. Any chance you might do one sometime? Love your reviews and the whole Czech Republic 😊
Hi, thanks for the nice video - I noticed in previous videos the time stamps along with the names of the featured places were posted in the video description - but this time they seem to be missing. Maybe you could include the information again, to make it easier to save the Czech shop names? :-)
Great video. Is decaf (ground from beans, not instant powder) available at many coffee shops?
Thank you so much. Just thought, could you What Three Words theses places also?
8 times since 2014, we lived at hotel u krize, Mala Strana. It's close to everything, old town, castle area and easy to get around in walk distance.
This is great! I cannot drink alcohol, so every beer place recommendation is a sad reminder that I am missing a lot living in CZ. More non-alcohol places please!
anywhere you can ask for kofola ou domáci limonada, they will ask what flavour do you want... Elderberry, raspberry, lemon, ginger, cucumber, etc etc
Just get a Birell.
I am curious how is the internet in the apartments for rent.
I can work from anywhere as long as i have internet so i was wondering if there is a place you guys know has a reliable network.
Or if for example if there is a tourist sim card of sorts with some gb to be used on the internet so i could hotspot for example.
City looks amazing and i would like to visit
Another great video. Thanks 👍
I highly recommend the cheesecake at Oliver's Coffee Cup. And this cafe is definitely a cool place!
You guys are great! Also want to say that Rick Steves is a wonderful human being.
My faforite type of video! Food!!!
is it weird that i've never been out of sweden but i still love the videos?
Last night we spontaneously decided to go to Prague and visit the National Museum and the first cafe you recommend is right next to it! You guys have incredible timing and now I'm a little bit scared, you can predict the future. (If so, please leave the lottery numbers in the comments, thank you)
I have a list in Google maps of all the coffee shops I want to visit or have been too. These are now definitely on there too.
Been walking around this square hundreds times but never noticed these gem coffee shops . I must have been suffered from blindness 🦉
Top, thinking of visiting it this year!
I ate lots of sýrevy snék from supermarkets whilst in Prague. Amazing
Hi Janek! I'm in Prague 1 on holidays from Canada, any meet & greet with your followers?
I can not remember if you have been to Coffe Cube? I recomend their place at Kotva. See you there in May 😉
Thanks!
Me and my (soon to be) wife will visit praque in may during the weekdays because of our honeymoon, how is the parking near the city any recommendations or do's and dont's? For some reason I hope to actually meet you there.
Hi Honest Guide! Please do a video of recommended vegan spots in Prague!
Hey, I speak some Polish, it looks like I should have no problem to move around in the Czech Republic, right? For example, when you were showing the coffee shop in the house of fashion - I could read the sign. By the way, my wife and my son they went to Czech Republic couple years ago and they just loved it. They went to a restaurant and boom the waitress right away brought a couple of beers. They said that you guys drink a lot :-) but the food is phenomenal. The major issue was exchanging money in the bank - the rate horrible. But they take visa everywhere. I also recommend taking the train from Prague to Vienna. It is a great trip, great food, and of course beer too :-)
It would be very odd to be given beer without asking for it anywhere here. You can use your card in most places and google or apple pay. For the few places that you can't, you'll just have to bring some cash.
Could you review Cat Cafes in Prague sometime? 😊
Was the L4 cafe the old Literary Cafe from back in the early 2000s?
The Globe Bookstore And Café is also a good choice. :)
Janek my vote goes to Coffee and Riot on Opatovická!
What's the track used in this video from 4:21 onwards?
I am studying all your videos for my next visit.
Piece of truth!
We just went to L4, update… now it’s closed on Mondays 😅 but we found anice hidden gem, Míšeňská, really cute cozy place.. and quiet, even being very close to the bridge
What about Headshot Coffee? They have 2 shops in the city centre around your favourite Františkánská zahrada❤
I suppose this is an old one, but I remember it fondly from 1970s: RADIOCAFE - Vinohradská 12. Yes, I am old.
Perhaps you could highlight some good places to get Hot Chocolate (the proper stuff, not powered), as not all tourists drink coffee.
Thank you very much! You are the best with everything!Money with best Rates Exchange, best Czech food or Burger und Great best place for Coffee!!!TOP
Good Video. Thank you Honza and Janek, i watch every Video. Sunday about 6 p.m. Honest Guide Time. In this weeks Video you dislike Starbucks, meanwhile last Week you praised Guiness (in a product placement show). For me Guiness and Starbucks is the same context. Buth multinational global Players. Therefore its worth to Support the locals 👍 Maybe you make an additional Video to your Guiness Show last week. I am in CZ about 12 Times a year, i do not eat Hamburgers, Sushi, Döner or italian Pizza in CZ (i have them here on every Corner and sry for that, cheaper and better than in CZ), i also do not drink German Schneider Weisse (famous in CZ) or Heineken or Becks there. I like the local Dishes and Beverages.
Once more, Janet is standing right next to my bench in Wenceslas Square and fails to mention it! They won’t be there after the renovations next year ☹️
Nice video. I tried to look up your old video, of cool places to go, it was very old video, couldnt find it. There was a spot on some tower near the bridge you can go to and other cool places. I guess you deleted it :(
super video, hoši !
Janek stop throwing shade at Starbucks 😂 just kiddin' keep goin'!
Smetana is also sour cream in russian.
I have to ask about the word at the end - isn't smetana only sour cream? Wouldn't you want krém in your coffee?
Krém (the cream) is usually stiffer, it is usually used for decorating cakes and desserts or it is a cosmetic product. Zakysaná smetana (Sour cream) is used to soften sauces and soups, Smetana ke šlehání/Šlehačka/Šlehačkový krém (whipping cream) is put in cakes, meat roasts, pasta, creams or hot chocolate and Smetana do kávy (coffee cream) in coffee.
@@vermull19 Ah, so you have an extra word to make it sour cream - I speak Russian myself (lived there a while), and smetana would *only* be sour cream. Thanks so much for the detailed reply 😊😊
Why not show off the "Mead museum" in New Town. Lots of great mead (even if I prefer less sweet ones), we enjoyed our tasting and talking mead with the owner.
Remember, mead is good for you! I should know, I'm from Sweden :-)
Prague is one of my favourite cities
More like this please!
That the people recognised you as ‘the scam video guys’ should tell you something.
Focus on the positives!
Prague is starting to be seen, you could move to a different city and start over. ❤
How is hot chocolate under soft drinks lol. What do you guys call a mocha? Coffee/chocolate.
Doubleshot has the best coffee in Prague
can you give those coffee shops to my city in the states? im tired of all the shitbucks... and sometimes id like to have someone make coffee for me instead of myself LOL
I love you 💕
65,- Kč for Fondánový věneček, that's really cheap - for Prague that is. Elsewhere it is about 1/3 of the price.
Coffee places: Go to great lengths of disguising themselves to not to become too touristy
Honest guide: So let me show you some places 😁
Jen bych upozornil na chyby. 4:00 ulice vejvodova ale v anglických titulcích je nerudova :)
the code for Starbucks toilet (old town sq) 2006
idk about starbucks but in KFCs around Brno the code changes after some interval idk how many days/weeks to avoid this.
I prefer mlieko in my coffee :D
Hmmm... I just wonder as a czech (not citizen of Prague, so no biases) why would be Malá strana translated into english as Lesser town? Why not just Small town? Is there some reason or lore to it? Or maybe.... just mabe, you used google transalte... JK :D Love your content
Great video, remember to press the like button 👍
Aight now yall 🤪
Just curious, do you like Marlenka cake? 😎 One of Czech trademarks imho
Marlenka Cake (Honey Cake) is neither traditional nor czech. It was brought to CZ in 1995 from Armenia. You can buy it at Supermarket. It is produced in a Fabric in CZ Silesia i think.
@@wernerleinberger9847 nice tip, thanks! This will blow minds of many people I know that tried this in Czech Republic only 😀
Will you EVER make a video regarding LGBT Prague and Czechia ?
I hope they will put back those lovely cobblestones after they have repaired tram tracks in the street.
Just came in after watching this video and found that the folks at adjacent table also came after this video😂
A “traditional” Czech trdelník chain café opening on every second street corner in the US & competing with Starbucks would be the greatest uno reverse card ever
we dont sonsider us our enemies
“Lesser Town”. I believe a more accurate translation would be “Lower End”
Do not speak I’ll of our savior Rick Steves!
How many times? It’s not advertisement, it is pronounced Ad-ver-tis-ment 4 syllables
Smetana... sour cream in Russian.
2:57 As an American, this confused me. 🤔
Lol
Some people find themselves stuck between a scam and a good place.
😍😍😍😍👍👍
Man follows scammers around only because he knows they got good taste in coffee 😂 jkjk
Damn. 3.5eur for coffee?
You can get coffee anywhere from 1.50 upwards. The sky is the limit if you really want to pay.
🎉❤❤❤🎉
As always, great channel, but please: Why this HIDDEN gems. In what way hiddden? Just a click-bait. As you probably know, there are a lot of people in town coming here, so not in any way hidden! Btw: What does it mean "hidden" in yt-videos? That being said: keep up the good work!
