We did this for our area-all state choir. At first we all hated it but when we added the the drums and clapping and all the voices it just moved. It was the best piece we did!
i was in the Connecticut All State Chorus this year directed by Dr. Thomas. We did the same selections and it was fantasticc. He was so awesome. and i loved this song. awesome job with it.
My New Choir Director, Natalie Colgan's old choir director is the guy, Brad Holmes, who arranged this. We're doing this song at Warren's Winter Concert in Gurnee
@Joester1515 -I know it's and African song and dialect, I sang this a week ago in a concert. I meant during the last hold, the women do this Native American sounding yell, it was just interesting.
there definitely is, my school is using it, but unfortunately i do not know where to get it. I ll try and figure out what the name of the composer is for you though.
I know this is the All State Honors Choir and everyone wants to sound all pretty and stuff, but what ever happened to having fun in choir? This song was created by the Africans to make their everyday lives more leisurely; that's how they used music! Why not express it that way?
@aseretkavon I totally agree...The choir sounds amazing, but they need to have spontaneous, un-choreographed movement for song...It would be so cool :)
Noel, Noel Yesu me kwisa ku zinga ti beto Noel,Noel Yesu me kwisa ku zinga ti beto Kana nge zola ku zaba mwana Nge fwiti kwisa ku fukama Kana nge zola ku zaba mwana Nge fwiti kwisa ku fukama Translation: Noel, Noel Jesus has come to live with us Noel, Noel Jesus has come to live with us If you want to know the child You have to come kneel If you want to know the child You have to come kneel
I think we could have done so much more to show our enjoyment. It's too bad he didn't take ideas. Of course it's understandable, the director already has only 3 days to teach us everything they want. :D
you can always tell if a person is a good singer if you can visibly see the words that they are singing. Clearly some can do this and look like this, :D good singers while others look like this '_' not so good singers.
Not to be mean or anything, but being from the original choir to sing this arr. with Dr. Holmes; this choir sounded really boring. It was like there was 0 emotion to the words being sung. It was fast and everyone singing looked like they were bored and didn't know what they were even singing. This song is meant to bring joy, but watching this made me feel sad that the choir didn't really get to experience the greatness of the text with this music.

I sang under Brad Holmes in undergrad-- and Andre Thomas as a graduate student. Both first class conductors and amazing teachers and mentors.

Brilliantly rendered.

this song was so fun to sing in choir ❤❤😃
Cannot wait to do this song soon :D
I just sang this with my high school choir on Wednesday. We were a lil bit slower than this. We even used the same choreography.
Can you share the lyrics?
I like this song much better with a bit of a slower tempo. Adds more emotion
i think it being faster makes it more powerful and sticks to its roots
Andre Thomas is @ FSU
Yeah it's easy to rush! because everyone gets excited:) The guy who arranged this is a professor at my alum Millikin University
I’m singing this song In choir for our mass price

In some versions of his song there's stomping involved. Personally I think it makes this song even better. It gives it more of the African effect.
Hey noodle, you can buy it from First Step Records. They're the publishing group at Millikin University where Brad Holmes (arr) is from.
this is a nice song. i would like to have a copyof this piece. can somebody please give me a copy.

use your arms, people -- have y'all ever sang joyfully and NOT swayed an arm or grooved a shoulder when getting into the beat and rhythm?!
