I have a set of Thornbuckers in my PRS custom 22 Artist with ebony fingerboard and the rotary switch. The stock pickups sounded dull and overwound. The Thornbuckers made the guitar come alive and be useful in all 5 positions. No more mud in the neck position and the bridge position is so sweet and with clarity without becomming shrill.
I just put a raw nickel Thornbucker (1) set into my precious McCarty. Didn’t really have the money, it wasn‘t planned, I have another guitar on the bench… but I couldn’t resist. And don‘t regret it! I made a test record with both sets and the humbuckers sound 99% the same. BUT in split, while I thought the PRS pickups did a great job, the Suhr really do it. Wow. I‘m gonna play the next gigs with that guitar only.
@@ElliottKleinguitar it‘s a standard USA McCarty, almost 20 years old, lightweight and responsive, with beautiful flame top and wraparound bridge. You might see it in a old video on my channel
While I enjoyed the Thornies in my 594 thinline (all mahogany) I ended up putting them in a Les Paul Traditional where they seem to be more at home. The 594 now has Planet Tone 59 specials which are alnico 2 and absolutely SING. Just a a spongier feel and thicker midrange. Also considered Thornbucker 2 bridge which I still wanna try.
I literally just dropped a thornbucker 2 in the bridge and a standard thornbucker in the neck of my custom 24. It's really articulate and amazing for lead.
I have a thinline 594 also and have lambertones cream’s in it. It’s great for the neck but I’m also wanting something a little beefier for the bridge. It definitely can make pickups sound brighter somehow.
@@ElliottKleinguitar I have a lambertones grinder bridge in another guitar and I love it, so I’m considering that, but also looking at thornbucker, or I have a PRS 57/08 bridge pickup I could put in. Tough choice to be made haha.
The best split neck I've found so far, try lowering the body and raising the poles and see if you like it. So much clarity too in the humbucker. Love these pickups, looking forward to trying the II.
How is the TB+ on your Vela? I was considering that or the non + for mine. I’ve tried a few already and most seem to make that guitar insanely bright even though it sounds warm and clear acoustically.
I put a Lollar El Rayo in the bridge on my vela and it matches the neck fralin low wind mini humbucker very well. I almost got rid of the guitar but the El Rayo made it incredible!
@@seangaskinmusic2300 I’ve tried 3 humbuckers in the bridge of my vela and this is the first time I’ve felt like I have what I was looking for. El Rayo is definitely a great choice for Vela.

Oh nice, congrats! Was it a core or S2 (or like McCarty McCarty, not 594)?

@mbaraka92 oh awesome, I shall go take a look!
@@mbaraka92 it sounds awesome, also awesome Parker and tie dye guitar!
Sounds great!
Thanks!
sounds great
thanks Sorrn!
I have a TB set on the way for my 594 Thinline too.
hope you enjoy them!
@@ElliottKleinguitar they’re fantastic!
Sean mate I am here wondering if I should drop a set on my 594 single cut.

Oh looking forward to the 2!
I'm planning to replace the prs s2 McCarty pickup with a thornbucker. Which 50mm or 53mm is better for the bridge?
I think 50mm since you're closer to Gibson scale length than Fender

Whatcha thinking for the bridge as a replacement?

I'll have to check that out! Curious what that does. Also I gotta hear some demos of the II!
@@ElliottKleinguitar My guess is it changes the magnetic field to be a little closer to a single coil pickup.
The two is brilliant. Loving it in my prs. Happy to see my 85/15s gone.

I have a pair of thornbucker that I want to apply for my prs custom se 24 but it turned out that... the thornbuckers are too wide for my prs...
Oh weird, that’s quite unfortunate. Hopefully you have a luthier your trust to make space for them
