Can we please get a Hamish Watson tribute? He's been outstanding throughout the autumn internationals and the 2017 6Ns.

Nice to see some sporting talent in Scottish rugby football given how few association footballers we have produced in recent decades. I am a Scot so it's not that I expect us to win anything, just not be so dire in the losing. Enjoying watching Glasgow and Edinburgh ( God I am maturing or nearing death ) playing in the Pro 14.

I watch him play for Edinburgh all the time and he is one of the best players in the team. He has the same qualities as Hogg but plays more throughout the game making tackles and defending

A good and promising youngster from Edinburgh in the backs. A rare thing indeed these days. But can anyone clarify something for me? Supposedly he can play 10 as well and I've heard rumours of people talking about that being his future intended position but since Edinburgh are playing him at full back amongst poor competition at 10 already, should we expect to see him moved in the near future or not?
I see those people talking about that and all I can think is A) Finn Russell is potential worldie at 10 already, with other competition coming through in the next year or two for him there's no need to change other players to a different position, meanwhile 15 has almost nobody coming through, and B) it seems similar to the people saying Hogg should play 10, which is something I do not believe in. There are versatile players who can play well in multiple positions but if you're world class at one, why try changing that for something else where it isn't needed? Different skills required at each position. Whenever Hogg's played 10, it's been in less risky games against weaker opposition and he's looked decent but nothing remarkable (e.g. against Zebre/Treviso earlier this season).
Anyway, Kinghorn looks classy and at 20 years old, that's looking good for the future, not only for depth at 15 for Scotland, but also as competition to Hogg, who is just made for the big stage. But not every player can play every game at their best and offer the complete package necessarily. If Kinghorn becomes a defensive monster, or great under the high ball, as well as offering offensive abilities, there's already a current case for him to be picked over Hogg in games where those skills are required (I mean being 6ft 5 and 2 kilos heavier than Hogg who's 4 years older is already a good sign as far as defence and aerial capability goes...). Far too early to judge in Scotland terms. 4 years younger than Hogg and it's his first proper season in Edinburgh (debuted last year but he wasn't a starter as far as I know, maybe someone can clarify that). He'll have his day at some point. Anyone good enough will, certainly in a team with only one out-and-out full back.

Röss Lämönt You're right. This is his first season as a starter. He's not going to play at 10 anymore in my opinion. The times he's moved to 10 for Edinburgh have not been good performances at all. Seems like Blair needs time to make decisions, which you don't get at 10. Also, he's very tall as you say and is very good under the high ball. Defence is improving but I would say that it's already better than Hogg's which we know is pretty poor. Future is definitely at fullback where there is little competition for Hogg. Although Kinghorn played at 10 a couple of times for Scotland u20s, he didn't do well then either. Whilst he played 10 at school and for the u18s, at lower levels coaches often want their most talented players on the ball as much as possible. That was part of the reason Hogg played 10 for Hawick. Anyway, there is Adam Hastings and Josh Henderson both coming through, and in their time with the u20s have looked far better players at 10. Blair should therefore stay at 15 where he can use his height for high balls and long strides for counter attacks/big clearing kicks. As he fills out his defence will also improve.

Thanks for the answers and background blurb. I can now counter those people talking out their rear end about position shifting. Never makes any sense to me unless you have no options, which isn't the case for Scotland at the moment in any position. Just demonstrates ignorance of the youngsters who are nearing making their appearance in the tier 1 pro teams.
I would say that while Hogg's defence isn't great, he's made a huge number of try saving tackles over the years, which are surely worth a bit of credit.
Glad Kinghorn made it through to Edinburgh though (Glasgow fan here). They've needed some promising backs to come through ever since Scott and Visser departed. Having him, Dean and Bennett all in the same backline will probably do Edinburgh a lot of good in the years to come. Ideally need a creative 10 to get the best of them. And of course, one day reduce the load on Glasgow for callups.

I wonder if he'll get asked to bulk up and play in the centres? He's got some speed and footwork, add some power and he can bash through some defences? Some pretty good footage there from less than a full season of top flight play!

He seems okay, but there's at least 20 fall backs in super rugby better than him, he'd be best spend a season in the Southern Hemisphere RUGBY, just needs consistency which lacks in a lot of northern players, their to hot'n cold.

RJ Ryan Well bare in mind he's only been playing pro rugby for a season and a half. You'd expect players with several seasons under their belt to be better. Are there 20 teenage fullbacks better than Kingorn in super rugby? Obviously not. I partially agree about the consistency issue in the northern hemisphere. I feel like there might be more off-field distractions in the Uk and France in comparison to the southern hemisphere.
