I Don't Understand Why This Hasn't Been Patent? You definitely haven't seen such devices yet!

- Hey! Despite the presence of machines in my workshop, I often face the problem of how to accurately and beautifully cut round blanks, for example, for tables or wheels for decorative carts or something else. All devices offered on RUclips always imply the need to center the workpiece, i.e. it is necessary to drill a hole in the center of the circle and fix compasses, etc. on it. I solved this problem!
In my design, you do not have to drill anything, the workpiece will not suffer and its surface will not deteriorate, in addition, my design allows you to accurately determine the cutting radius, in addition, it is completely suitable for use both on a sawing machine and a band saw machine.
So guys, I'm waiting for your comments, thanks for watching and subscribing! 🔔🔔🔔

That is an interesting construction. It hasn't been patented because one of the requirements of a device that might be patented is that "It is not obvious to someone skilled in the art". You are skilled in the art of wood working and you came up with this device but it isn't much different than some of the devices used to position materials in a CNC machine. It does on fact look very much like the mechanism used to position the work head in a CNC machine. It just happens to use wood as the main material and components. By the way, that tool you made is really neat.
The US Patent Office has granted patents to devices that were previously patented by others many years before and it is obvious to me that the patent filers simply copied a previous art. A perfect example is the patent by Ferdinand Porsche for a trailing arm front or rear suspension where ball joints were used to locate the wheel hub where it attached to the trailing arms. This was used in the Audi Grand Prix machines of 1930. This morphed later into the front trailing arm suspension used in the Volkswagen Beetle where a king pin or pins replaced the horizontal ball joints.
In about 1960 or there about two engineers working for one of the American auto companies applied for and were granted a patent also for horizontal ball joints in the same manner as the Porsche patent of the 1930s. How did this happen? It is quite simple in that the patent examiner was too lazy to do an adequate job of searching the existing records. Even before computers there were ways of searching the patent records to find similar patents in the past..
If you are interested in how things that should not be patented get patented see the Dr. David Martin interview associated with the Lockdown Video. You may find the same interview or one similar if you look for the interview between David Martin and Reiner Fuelmich on BitChute. David has some really interesting things about our patent system.
Been using such a device daily since 1999, all the genuine good stuffs been invented decades ago.
He could, however, likely seek a design patent...
@@tuffguy007 he can't, as he has now put it in the public domain by publishing this video.
@@pierrechardaire8525 I believe this is public disclosure, not public domain. He should have until 12/12/2022 (one year from public disclose) to file a non-conditional patent application assuming he hasn't profited from this or any derivative. To everyone but the inventor, this is prior art from the day of publication.
besides, once it has been disclosed publicly like this, it not eligible for a patent. It's now obvious.
I just made one of these and it's brilliant! I have to admit that reconstructing something without plans was a challenge, but so worth it. Now I have an incrementally adjustable circle cutting jig that can cut from 5" to 23". Yeah, I could have made it 4 to 24, but I volunteer in a hobby shop and our stuff gets chewed up. Less than 5 inches can easily be done with cutting waste and smoothing on a sander. More than 23 inches and you'll have to use the jig saw in our shop. The size I made is safe and easy to use and I can take things I learned and apply to other projects. The current jig is wonky, way too large for the deck of the largest bandsaw, and isn't accurate. This will be such an improvement over our old, non-functional and frankly unsafe jig.
Thank you for posting! And thank you for the exercise in rational thinking (with math). That incremental mechanism will be perfect for many more jigs!

You need to put an expansion joint in the table slot runner and tighten it up when making a circle. Keeps it from moving back and forth.
The 2nd cut shows the table sliding forward and ruining the circle.

This is a jack screw principle. Used for many applications including extending & retracting flaps & other controlled moving wing surfaces in an airplane

I agree. It's pretty difficult to locate the right video in a later date. 😕

It probably has. Someone else started out with something as complicated as what you have and worked on simplifying it until it was practical. This is how the patent system works these days; come up with something practical, effective, and that can be manufactured relatively easily. Why haven't you patented your device?
I LOVED that video!
So clean. I felt like I was looking over your shoulder. I had been thinking of a small mechanism like this.
Thank you
BTW. Beautiful Shop/Craftsmanship.
It can't be patented because it was in old books and is an old concept. We have been doing this and making bowls on table saws also for 100 years
Your right. Something so simple as this should of been mass produced by now. Excellent concept and design. 👍🙏🇦🇺 thank you for sharing.
That's a great tool. It appears it has to be backed-out to enter the material and then set to the right radius blindly. Adding a couple locking nuts to the side of the slide opposite of the adjustment drive could allow the proper radius to be preset by dead-nuts. Then the material can be backed-out to start, then the slide set to the dead-nuts for the radius cut accurately.
Muito bom excelente trabalho

TOO MUCH.
You should add in some type of wedge or pin locking device to stop the jig from drifting. You can see it move just slightly and causes the one circle to be a smidge out of round.
Great Idea for the Bandsaw, but I would think a little dangerous for the table saw.
Hi, I'm not realy into woodworking because I don't know that much. But I must say this is a great idea and I think this will help a lot of guys. Keep up the good work.

I never really read video descriptions. The whole time I was trying to figure out what the heck is he making. Not even sure why I was so intrigued. I don't make anything. But I like to see how things work. When the end came and I saw him use it, thus revealing to me what it was.....mind blown. Awesome Video

Patents are a legal vehicle to protect secrets, FYI. A patent application will be rejected when discovery reveals it isn't a secret. That's why.

Seen loads of people cut circles using a bandsaw that way. They just use a much simpler jig but the same principle - mount the workpiece on a rotating centre.
I bought one of these when I saw them at CES several years ago, I saw it being demonstrated and bought one at the show. A couple of months later It was stolen (someone broke into my truck while I was on a job and took my laptop and mine was in bag) and I didn't replace it. Please note: The following comments are just my personal evaluation of the unit I owned and not on any new models that might have addressed these issues.
For me I had several issues with the model they had out then. In no particular order
- I had a hard time getting it to stay calibrated on a paint textured surface - Orange peel or knockdown seemed to bother it because you had to keep the device in constant contact with the wall or it would go out of calibration and the texture messed with that.
- The unit scratched up easily - it came with a piece of plastic film that you were supposed to stick on the sensor side but it scratched up and would get caught on the texture too.
- The unit I had used my phone for the display, it connected to my phone via a Micro USB cable (supplied) but you had to hold the phone and the device together to use it which made it awkward . It did come with a 2" disk of reusable gluey stuff that allowed you to "stick" the device on the back of your phone, but that didn't really work well for me either - It was a cumbersome hybrid device that was difficult to use - every time you lifted it from the surface (wall, floor, etc.) it had to be recalibrated. Plus it was bulky trying to use the phone with the device stuck on the back and blocking my phone camera or to answer a call.
- The pretty pictures shown on the video (distinguishing a stud, a wire, a pipe) are using the device interpretation mode - it gives it's best guess as to what is behind the wall (which might or might not correspond to what was actually there). The raw image looks sort of like a colorized heat pattern map (you can see what I mean if you watch the video of the mouse behind the wall) colored blobs.
- As I recall, it used my phone battery for power - which would need a recharge by Noon if I used the device for any real work.
- on the plus side it would tell you something was inside cinderblock walls, so you could get some idea as to what was there, and there was a guy who showed you could tell if a person were to walk past on the other side of a cinderblock (and I guess sheetrock) wall.
For me, I just didn't find it as useful as I had hoped. It might have matured a little by now and these issues are fixed. I just saw commercial for another company that had a similar product (Bosch?) but I didn't delve into what technology it used or if it worked any better or worse that the Wallbot I had. Just my 2 cents on these - I'd like them to work but the technology didn't seem mature when I had mine.
Ha - ok this was in response to the video I was watching about the Wallbot. I don't know where that video went - perhaps it was an ad - sorry for the off topic post.
Putting a twist on the same mechanics that CD players and game consoles use for moving the magnetic reader back and forward to read disk I like it
Great Jig!!!!. A TEN from me!!!
I may have missed it in the video, but how do you lock the adjusting mechanism to prevent any movement while cutting???
This is Awesome! Thank you so much for sharing!!! 👍
As a bandsaw jig - great! 🙂 Thumbs up! As a tablesaw jig - OMG that's scary! 😲Thumb off! Just pray the double-sided tape holds.
Hahaha at first i was wondering what on earth is going on, but certainly worth waiting for. What a clever invention. I had come to see how to cut plastic edging length ways for kitchen and bathrooms.
Because it's a jig. Anyone can build one, even sell it to someone because you'd be selling the crastmanship of the build more than the idea. Like trying to patent a drafting compass.
sensational, Like 35 Mil, very creative and very useful, congratulations friend!🙂

That is a great tool, thanks for showing it to us!

I used to cut circles on a band saw using a piece of ply wood clamped to the bed with a sharpened nail just sticking through, to set the radius of the circle you just measure from front edge of the blade to the pin , simple and it only takes a few minutes to set up. you drop the item to be cut onto the pin ,about centre and tap it down
Mantap ide yang cemerlang👏
Das ist ein wirklich kleveres Werkzeug! Wow!
I really enjoy watching your videos! It may be silly to some people, but you make me nervous with your bandsaw guard being set so high. There are probably a few people who wished they had only lost the tip of a finger instead of a much worse scenario.

It hasn't been patented because there is nothing to patent. It's just straightforward application of basic engineering principals.
7:30 Spoiler alert. It's a jig to hold rectangular pieces of wood to cut them into circular pieces. Just tell us that at the start.
But some of us like the suspense of what the final outcome is!

A lot cooler than I expected from the clickbait title. I might have to build one
How about lubing the wooden ways with candle wax and the lead screw with either silicon spray or a light grease? And you could coat the whole thing in paste wax, especially the part that slides in the saw table. Or not...
That really is a wonderful piece or equipment. All credit to the designer.
Crazy Workshop; Take a Bow. Good work my friend.
Those wooden discs would be useful as lids for garden latrine.
People have latrines in their gardens? For fertilizer?
Very clever and well built!
I just use a wood screw through what will be the center and into a board clamped to the band saw or into the cross slide box.
Superb ingenius well done👏
that is really cool..if only I needed to cut a plywood circle..Well done..
A router circle cutter will do the same thing
Now that’s thinking outside the box! No pun intended.. clever indeed!!
nice job. now all you need to do is key all your rounds so that they fit on the jig with out the adapter.
After watching the video I still don't understand what you made, or why some people should feel happy or good about it. 😆
