- The first port of call on my Alaska cruise was Ketchikan - here I spent the morning exploring the picturesque town and in the afternoon I opted for a shore excursion booked directly through Celebrity Cruises. The shore excursion that I went on was Misty Fjords Flightseeing and Crab Feast.
The Misty Fjords Flightseeing excursion involved a seaplane tour over the Misty Fjords National Monument with Taquan Air, followed by a stop at a restaurant where we got to try locally-sourced crab. There were other options available if you didn't want to try the crab.
The seaplane tour itself took about 15-20 minutes and we had great views over the Alaska scenery. We even flew over the town of Ketchikan and our cruise ship, it was very cool seeing our cruise ship Celebrity Solstice from above. It was a safe and smooth journey in the seaplane, and our pilot was friendly and knowledgeable of the area and local culture. It felt like a very authentic Alaskan experience, one that I highly recommend doing.
