I still say Shao is the most badass looking character in this game. He is the last character on this entire roster that I would want to meet in a dark alley. He has awesome aesthetics.

I recently started playing shao and he's really really GOOD, i can't even down play. Also this guide came at the perfect time, thank you!
Tremor is also a very good cameo for him, 40% command grab in the corner even after the grab scaling nerf
Sub zero is one of shaos best kameos especially after the recent buff! It negates one of his biggest weaknesses with being zoned. And it gives him another option vs mashers w parry. Also 43% hitconfirms 🔥

Kano is also an incredible kameo for him. Getting axe down on block is so huge.
I usualy do sweep to condition low and check mash, you dont even loose your turn because of pushback and -3, i legit never see a shao player ask for buffs, he is insanely strong
Trust me Shao players downplay him ALOT. And some people actually think he's bottom tier just because he doesn't have a mid check while as you said he has that sweep if that's the case then Ermac is bottom tier cus his fastest mid is 14 frames 🤷🏼. People just forget about a character,s strength and overvalue their weaknesses sometimes
@@abel_thelion I also main ermac, and you downplaying him bad bro, his d4 got mad reach, his overhead got mad reach, his backdashes are amazing, the character forces you to block from really far and forces you to keep blocking with cancel pressure, also throws pulls people out of pokes and his has the most reach in the game (he has throw combos)

Agreed,treat his sweep Like it's plus on block because S2 will beat out any button they want to press and if they want to down poke a little walk back B1 or B2 will catch them
Don't forget Shao's amplified command grab is unbreakable. You forgot his axeless armor break move too.
What's the armor break move?
@@davideputeo8223 The move where his ax goes up and then down. You have to block it high and then low if it's over top of you. It also sends a projectile along the ground. Do you know what I'm talking about? I don't know the actual name of the move.
It’s his projectile axe slam, idk the input but it’s where he levitates it and slams it on the ground. 2 hits if they’re on top of the axe so free armor break in corner

@Xombat thanks man, as someone who is a ghostface main, I love these character breakdowns as they kind of allow me to take a character I don’t know anything about really which let’s face it is pretty much everybody on the roster except for my main character ghostface and at least get a basic idea of their gameplan so when I face them down as Ghostface in Kombat League I have a solid understanding of what they want to do.
I seriously hope you do one of these for every character in the roster man as they are super helpful for gaining an understanding of how every roster member likes to play so I can focus on defending and punishing what they want to do.

Sonya plays with him like lao but with added mix, better recoveries, and a safe divekick to get in on zoning. Its actually really crazy how good they work together

An important thing about Motaro! You can do fatal blow combo ending with him, when normally his axe throw not connects!

I Play Shao now for longer and can say the Kameo depends really on the matchup
Shao and scorp got great s2s but don’t forget about barakas! Barakas is ridiculous and the string is even better
Definitely gonna have to take these character breakdowns to gain a basic understanding of these characters once I learn the basic mechanics and how to play my main character Ghostface once he does come out on November 19th in early access.

I find Shao's low into Tremors uppunch is a pretty good way to get more damage. You can then sometimes do the overhead head bop with the back of the axe to keep them afraid. I love Shao.

Mavado also obligates people to take his mix ups in the corner because of the OTG

couple things from day 1 shao who be in the lab: arguably his worst match ups are reiko and raiden because their pokes reach so far that b1 is hard to whiff punish with. against those types of characters b3 works wonders as a replacement cause of its longer range, and since he lifts his leg he slightly avoids the hitbox. f2s hit stun can be used not only for combos, but to counter kameo safety. things like shadow kick into knives you can do f2 and recover from the knives and still full combo them. also been saying it for months, khameleon is his best kameo but darrius is imo his second best, most slept on team in the game by far.
What I found labbing against those broken d4s is usually a stagger into neutral jump or crossover jump 2 is usually a punish. S2 or s1 stagger work well for it, or from being plus from b2
Darius is pretty good but he gets no help anti zoning unlike khameleon , motaro, Lao, even mavado and Sektor. I think imo Sektor is Shaos most underrated kameo. Shao/Sektor is very strong. Also I think people sleep on just how good Shao/motaro can be.
I’ve been using shao Darius for almost 8 months and I’d def not say his second best. I love the team but compared to shao Lao or even Shao Motaro it doesn’t compare. Shao khameleon is by far his strongest team tho
@@bryanbridges6152 they’re both super strong teams, darrius has insanely strong knockdown game to the point he feels like a one touch character sometimes. to me i am cool w giving up the space control they give for that. play good and patient neutral, make one good read and that’s the round. it is def a frustrating team to play a lot of the time though, i do find myself switching to scorpion janet out of frustration sometimes
@@alexm.6557 obviously i’ve never seen you play so i dunno, only saying this because a lot of people that are using darius don’t know what’s up but peep the guide on ny channel for the good setups. if u alr using those and still don’t like darius then i respect that, all those teams are very good
There are some characters in mk1 where the devs absolutely cooked and others where I feel like a chimp designed them

Love the breakdown as a Shao/motaro player. I think Shao is around the 11-15 range as far as teir list but i definitely respect your opinion. With the right player he can cook; but most people arent the level of Dyloch, or you for insatnce just being real. I think what you said is why Shao has not had a single change since the game dropped. They are affraid that no matter what they do it will make him too strong.
But he has had a couple of nerfs. Which pissed me off by the way!
@earlthepearl6414 he did have the 1 to the command grab damage if you do a kameo after the command grab to extend it.i always forget about that because I use Sub and Motaro

Also i think what seperates decent Shao players vs really good ones in addition to what you said is also being able to chain axless stance back into ax stance mid combo. I srarted experimenting with that last night and i labbed for hours could you also go over this ? For a more advanced shao guide?
They are not that hard tbh. In order to get back into axe stance mid combo you simply dash cancel into your axe move. So if you do a long combo and you can get axe back then you do dash cancel s2 and continue from there.

Any combo off axe down can go back into axe down stance. Back into safe mix.. with mavados recovery. U can melt someone’s health away. Cmd grab is godly.. but mavado turns this character into a meaty 50/50 character lol
Safe launching 50/50s, armored launchers with all his armors Actually. And good damage off any hit. I use this team so much for free wins

@ you can easy punish his low and upblock his overhead and interrupt his cancels he genuinely has horrible matchups in this game
@@TrayCapone324 the overhead also goes overhead/low so you can space it to where the low part hits and not the overhead.
@@bryanbridges6152 the frame data for the low is negative 19 i think, and he has lots of gaps you can easily punish
